nothing on failure to keep appropriate records

Probably all part of the charge of not providing a safe work environment.

"What did you inject?"

"Dunno, got no records"

"How can you be sure it was safe?"

"Dunno, got no records, but we're pretty sure it cures cancer"

Sounds like an unsafe environment to me.

I am attempting to adopt the "I told you so" pose (without out appearing too smug) with some EFC supporters that thought this would never happen. Very hard to reduce the smug level.

Stuff it, suck it up Essendon hahahhahahahh etc.

Failure to keep records is part of the evidence to establish they failed to maintain a safe working environment most likely.

I guess that is part of the vague words that constitute the charge.

However I would have thought injecting god knows what is more than "failing to provide a safe environment" etc. If I stab you I don't get charged with failing to provide a safe environment, though unlike the EFC players, you probably didn't consent to it. But if I help you commit suicide, I don't get charged with failing to provide a safe environment. I guess this is all Worksafe jargon though.

About time, certainly bought a smile to my face but I am not confident at all that the Essendon delusionals will actually see what this is, all they will see is another conspiracy!

Posted

This obviously a AFL conspiracy!

The same one that has tried to create a brokered outcome until St. James thought he could could bluff and bluster his way out of this mess!

What another one!

Same one, it also involves the Labor Party, AFL, ASADA, WADA, CAS, the other 17 clubs, all news outlets, the UN, Greenpeace, the International Climate Commission, and the Iranian Government Nuclear program. There are suspicions Kim Jong Un is also involved although that can not be confirmed at this point.

Well this is disappointing:

"The Bombers will be forced to the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court and are set to face a maximum $305,000 fine."

"It is understood no Essendon directors or staff will face punishment."

So even if it goes through, apparently injecting 34 people with unknown drugs is only worth a $305,000 fine.

OD's wet tram ticket I guess.

We got fined more for 'not tanking'!!! Wtf? Another useless, toothless government agency.... Get rid of em all & we'd save billions. I bet $300k doesn't even cover the cost to the public for the 'investigation'!! Pathetic

The EFC statement published today says:

"Essendon Football Club has been assisting WorkSafe with its investigation and agreed to the charges laid today.

The charges reflect the governance failings of the Club at that time, which the Club has accepted responsibility.

As this matter is now before the Court, the Club will make no further comment at this time."

Seems to me that this mean they will plead guilty.

I note also the comment about a $305,000 fine. Another media outlet (I'll see if I can find it) said the maximum fine could be $1.3 million. I don't know whether employers are able to plea bargain, though. Any of our learned friends know whether the fine is solely the discretion of the Court or whether the Court is 'advised' by the prosecution what an appropriate penalty might be?

A few posters on here will be bitterly disappointed having believed (fantasised really) that Worksafe will throw the book at the Club, Directors and all sorts of coaches and staff...even jail terms were mentioned...

Investigation over!

This is where it ends as far as Worksafe and all associated with EFC.

The good news for us is, Goodwin can continue on as intended...never in doubt imho.

$305,000 is one average player wage for a year

What kind of pisspoor deterent is that??

Might as well just juice up and pay for a good QC

Pathetic attitude

Shows what a contrivance and a lap dog Worksafe is. Disgusting really.

Easy for big business to just do what it likes and ante up for what ever plss poor effort WS effects.

Should be a Royal Commision into the drugs program and scope all and sundry wo were either supposedly in positions of governance and/or the enforcement of codes and laws.

Pays to have people in high offices when dealing with corrupt government and their agencies.

As Jon Ralp I think tweeted, $305k on top of the $5million they have already spend is chicken feed.....

Yep.

Unless the a guilty verdict on Worksafe opens them up to litigation from the players, the $305k is nothing. It's pocket change to Little.

As every politician knows (or should know), don't start a Royal Commission unless you know for sure what the outcome is going to be. There's no way I want there to be a Royal Commission given I have no idea what's been happening at any club, but specifically ours.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
