We can beat them, but not this time unfortunately.

I think we're going to get a bit of a 'touch-up'.

We still have plenty of quality players that will play tomorrow. If I was coaching against melbourne, Kent, jetta amd dawes don't exactly come to mind if I was looking to beat melbourne. I'd be looking at Jones, Tyson, garlett and now hogan. We have replaced 3 players with another 3 players and while we might lose kents speed and jetta tying down a small, the 3 inclusions will give there all. It's not going to be a free scoring open game, so if grimes can hold Walters or Ballantyne, helped by garland, and Mckenzie can tackle and keep the ball in possession when he has it, I don't see us considerably weakened. Pedo may even be an upgrade as teams tend to watch dawes closer, maybe Pedo can get more freedom without being double teamed as dawes was. Just want to see us win the tackle count, contested possessions and be competitive in the clearances. If we can get 40 inside 50s we could score enough to win. Go Dees.

The last four times we have played them we have not scored more than 40 pts.

We are playing better but it is crazy to think we can knock them off.

Unless we get some miracle where Roosy strangles the life out of their midfield.

If it was in Perth I'd give us basically no chance, but playing at the G is not their forte.

It would still be a major upset. Their midfield is firing on all cylinders atm. We'll need some luck, including the umpires deciding not to screw the less fancied team this week.

I think Dawes is a big loss for us tomorrow. But I have faith in Pedo and presumes he plays forward to do his role. Having Chris there took a little bit of focus of Hogan and didnt always make him the number 1 target.

Guess we will have to work that little bit harder tomorrow.

Having an idle look at AFL stats (http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38311-match-preview-and-team-selection-round-5/page-7#entry1083443) to see how we stacked up against Freo: Generally ok.

Surprised to see Free are average or low in the AFL for most stats. They lead only on Hit-outs and Marks ie they are winning in the air. This suggests if we can get the ball to ground it will give us an advantage. Not to say we will win but it is an angle we can exploit especially when combined with our exceptional tackling record this year.

Wouldn't be surprised if we have a record number of spoils tomorrow to nullify their aerial dominance.

Pedo is a good in for Dawes...it gives us a bit more to fight Fremantle in the air (their strength). And, it will be good to see the forward line work without him. Dawes can be somewhat superflous and Jack and Jesse will have more room to move and do their thing.

Russian ought to get a few spells now.

Interesting to see how this line up goes.

This is very odd: "The Demons told AFL.com.au Dawes hadn't strained his calf, but given his history of calf issues the club didn't want to risk him against the Dockers".

Uh?? Really?? Looks like Dawes was dropped, albeit late but dropped nonetheless.

Not disappointed. Pedo is a far better match up against Freo than Dawes. He can do Dawes job forward and a better job in the ruck.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
