Sorry if this has been mentioned on other threads, but is this guy a MFC supporter? Im not very familiar with Melbourne radio so I don't know much about him. I would hate if this sort of thing gets associated with our club.

he's a very well known radio man on the popular 3aw morning session with ross stevenson and well known as a demon supporter. his style is comedic. he is an ex barrister.

he was with steve price at the richmond ground

he claims he has no memory of saying any such comment and steve price also claims no memory

Ah, the old "I don't remember saying that" defence. Just enough denial to avoid owning up to your own actions, but can still claim you didn't lie about it when it's proven you did say it. The ultimate weasle words.

I think this constitutes a well written apology. Not a denial.

"It has been suggested to me that during a conversation with my friend, I was overheard saying something which that person found offensive," Burns said in a statement.

"I have no recollection of making an offensive remark.

"However, I acknowledge that a complaint has been made and the idea that something I've said has offended someone is mortifying to me.

"If I have said anything that has offended anybody, I unreservedly apologise. In particular, to the people at the match and the Richmond Football Club."

maybe

but maybe also said something that was taken out of context

i listen a lot to 3aw breakfast show and it would seem to me to be out of character for burns to say that

so far i haven't heard what the exact words the informant (sitting in front of him) said he overheard

Fair enough. In that context, I agree.

Is it racial abuse tho?

I would have thought it religious abuse.

If he called him a terrorist due to being Muslim it has nothing to do with his race. Just his religion.

Perhaps the guy from 3AW should just be publicly executed then we move on ?

On the basis that an assumption was made that as he is from a Lebanese family and looks like a terrorist it is racist.

If this can be defended it was a private conversation overheard by someone. Many, if not most of us have said some shocking things in private and in jest. This is not an excuse but perhaps an explanation. I do not think for a moment that it is his belief or that he would ever say that sort of thing in public. Best we let it go.

I have no trouble coming down hard if abuse is yelled out but I am not so sure what the consequences should be if a private conversation is overheard.

Interested to hear what others think.

If he said it publicly then a witch burning is appropriate. If it was a private thing overheard by a snoop then not an issue. Who said something like "he who casts the first stone" ? I am sure everyone of us would be damned for eternity for a fraction of private FIMD we all do occasionally if made public.

I think this Burns character should definitely be counseled and made to sit down with Houli to discuss the incident and hopefully get himself educated with regards to the inherent wrongfulness of such insensitive racial or religious stereotyping (and we should not be lenient in our views simply because he might be a Dees supporter). On the other hand, the dolt that brought this to the press' attention has managed to turn an idiotic and insensitive comment from what would appear to have been a private conversation between two people, into a full blown public vilification of Houli. Two wrongs will never make a right.

If it's loud enough to hear then you have the right to ask security to request that person to be removed because you shouldn't have to hear other peoples thoughts if they cross the line.

If the person is famous then they can be publicly shamed.

The issue here is that we have a he said, she said situation and it sounds like Steven Price is the witness in defence of Burns and probably the person reporting the incident has someone on their side as well.

Well said DC, so he must of said it because someone lurking overheard half a conversation.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
