Yep this thread is everything I'm still excited about. He was my one reason for going this week. If he wasn't there my motivation would be shot! Loved his second half, felt ted Richards gave him a lesson in the first half (it was almost like we were trying to kick it to ted not hogan.. Always to teds advantage). But hogans marks and goals made me happy (especially that one handed one :)!

Also it seemed that not once did we kick it out from a point to him even when open.. Seemed a little weird considering that he is the best contested mark in the league at this stage.. My guess is they either don't see him, lack confidence or purposely ignore him as they want him to be the next link in the chain?

Bring on the Hawks next week :)!!

That Hogan one-hander got me out of my chair. Sensational grab. He also did some great work with hands, very fast to pick up at ground level and move it to a target.

There weren't many highlights but this young man gives us hope.

His 2nd goal was an interesting kick, it traveled 55 metres and was a low bullet kick. It was a rocket. He doesn't seem to get much height in his set shots.

The one handed contested mark was epic.

He looked on in the first 10 minutes, unfortunately the ball didn't get down his end for the next half an hour.

He will rip a game apart at some point this year and I want to be there when it happens.

He also doesn't try to kick the cover off it, which is nice to see.

Clear leader in "GIF OF THE YEAR" race.

TBH, even when he has been quiet I never think he is playing bad or out of the game.

Like Carey, you know at some point he will impose himself upon the game.

Real good player to be who needs serious support before the end of this year.

Scary thing is this kid will get a lot stronger and learn how to use his body

He already knows how to use his body brilliantly. A number of other players could take lessons from him.

Will he get "a lot" stronger? He's already over 100kg's and in his third season on the list - I would guess that improvement from hereon in would be incremental. He is already stronger than most of his opponents now as it is.

Injuries are always a possibility for every player but sometimes you need to take a gamble and if that means a 10 year contract so be it get it done

Generational player and club changer if the gamble pays off

Strength doesn't mean weight gain though mate, i was a hell of a lot stronger at 85kg's as a chippy then i have been at 100kg's as a PM. Its scary to think how strong and forceful he'll be, he'll soon be taking 2 defenders and your likes of Garlett, Kent and JKH will have a field day crumbing.

I know that size doesn't necessarily equal strength, though I don't think Jesse's got his weight by moving from his physically active job to a desk job like you have ;)

I hope you're right though, and you would think that at his age he wouldn't have finished developing by any stretch. If he continues to get stronger he'll be very difficult to stop, if he's not already.

Nasher is trying to say you can't improve on perfection. I put it to him that Jesse doesn't abide by our laws of nature and physics.

he doesnt need to gain any strength, hes already stronger than any other player and hes only 20.

Having said that, he will get stronger. Scary really.

Was just thinking that & mentioned it while talking to a hawks supporter mate. And how good would it be if we played on and attacked rather than holding up the play (really missing kents speed here i believe). When we actually tried to do it against sydney hogan had 3 shots on goal as a result in the second half.. Lets attack dees :).

This is how it will go:

Salem to ___, handball to salem who kicks to ___, handball to salem who lace out hits Hogan who out muscles Frawley. Repeat * 27 times. Sounds pretty accurate.

Completely agree, mate. He's one you can build a dynasty around. With the way the salary cap is inflating each year, a mill a season for ten years probably wouldn't be a massive dint in the cap. You could also front load some of that now to ensure we can keep others down the track.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
