Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That is not quite true. The expansion teams had access to the best 17yo's in the country. They weren't in the pool for us to draft. I agree with your general contention though...

Agree. I guess what I'm saying is that, regardless of that, we've had the same access to what was left as have St Kilda, Brisbane, the Bulldogs, etc etc and they're all doing the rebuild thing a hell of a lot better than us...

Bit ranty, but for once you are absolutely spot on. I can't argue with a single word of it.

so happy I was able to appease you this time, Sir. Sorry about all the other times.

in order to improve my performance, next time I will reduce the word count so it's not so 'ranty' for you

And what has this got to do with some possible team changes for round 3?

its got to do with the bigger picture. There are no changes that can correct the fact that we are a team with a predictable habit of being useless.

Dawes OUT JKH in.

Dawes looks like a footballer, is fierce but cant play footbal.l Can't catch can't Kick

The problem still with the team is " It is no where hard or tough enough" and it shows every week with our easy capitulations.

Could be we hire weak people, we select nice guys who knows Who cares but we must be the easiest team to play against.

To beat Melbourne all you have to do is put sustained pressure on for 10 minutes and the team folds like a deck. Dont know what you do about it but that's the reality.

Maybe the players believe that they are just paid to make up the numbers and it is only the supporters who think the game is real

No change. Tempted to drop Howe for his utterly disinterested display but maybe There is something I don't know here. Also thought frost was poor but our lack of 2nd ruck options are slim.

Frawley says hi Jeremy??

The media are actually reporting that he is a chance to play, medical team to make the call on Friday.

Knowing our luck Smith will play.

Well, maybe, if he is rushed back after a genuine concussion it could actually be in our favor Edited by monoccular

I just hope brayshaw starts, give the kid 3 quarters he's already winning his own ball and making an impact

I want to see Brayshaw play a whole game, but the only question for me is: how is his tank? I think he's shown in the last two games that he's already good enough to play a whole game and contribute, I wonder if the FD take the view that he doesn't have enough miles in the legs yet.

I suspect the FD is wary of burning the kids out

Agree totally with you Nash

Could have the year wrong but think it was 2011, Meth Coast played Andrew Gaff as the sub for the first 6/7 rounds, whilst also putting plenty of miles into his legs for conditioning. They sent him back to the WAFL for a full run before bringing him back and rotating him from starting 21 to sub.

Have to say they seemed to do the right thing by him as he was up to speed with the game pretty quick. The big clubs do things well in all facets of the game and whilst Gaff and Brayshaw are different type of players I will trust Roos and the FD to be getting this right and looking at the big picture

I drove up to Canberra for the game with a crew of demon mates, optimistic of a good showing but mindful of my fathers words. "Never back a horse second up after a spell." And how right he was. Devastated by the lack of effort. Confused that professional footballers could not take clean possession. Confounded that leadership can disappear within 1 short week. Feelings of deja vu. Fortunately the beer was cold at the ground, the red wine flowed that night and was complimented by the cleansing of Olympic proportioned venting. I am not concerned about who is in or out I just want effort applied to the task at hand. So re-attach the heart strings and take it up to the crows. Go Dees.

Mind you, on this logic both teams should have lost...

People jumping into dawes.. Give him a break. Blokes worked his ass off this pre season. One bad game doesnt mean your a bad player!

I think Grimes in will be the only change and hopefully Brayshaw plays te whole game

In retrospect it result should not have been a surprise.

GWS are stocked up with talent in exactly the area of the field where we have least, the midfield.

Unfortunately it's also the area where we are weakest, not just in terms of player talent, but in cohesion and games played together. Roo's mentioned it on 360, that the players themselves (many new to the club) aren't sure who their best and most experienced players in the middle are, who could stand up to GWS's midfield surge...

Newton, Garlett, Lamumba, Brayshaw and VandenBerg were playing their SECOND competitive game together and with the other MFC midfielders.

Up against a GWS midfield group that have literally lived together for the past 2 or 3 years and would be close to 50 games together.

As always we want instant success (and we deserve it), but it aint going to arrive overnight, these boys need time to gel and learn to play as a midfield group under intense and constant pressure, they don't call it the "boiler room" for nothing.

In retrospect, Gold Coast are stocked up with talent in exactly the area of the field where we have least, the midfield, so...

GWS has lacked exactly what Melbourne lacked through 2010-2013: leadership. Griffin and Shaw add a lot but they don't set the world on fire, nor are they stand-out leaders. Somehow GWS suddenly look the goods but Melbourne's excuse was that we threw the young kids to the wolves.

I can't hide the fact that Melbourne has a stigma attached to it. When a young 18-year-old puts on the jumper after going through his adolescence having watched how bad a club Melbourne is, it surely must play on such a young, inexperienced mind.

The club isn't just cursed: it's toxic.

Wouldn't mind if Brayshaw is sub again or even at Casey. I want to see him rip the Tigers apart on Friday night!!

To beat Adelaide we need to flip the pressure they are putting other teams under and put it right back on them. Turn the hunters in to the hunted.

Unfortunately the only players at Casey who like a good hunt are Riley (who's probably still underdone), McKenzie (who subtracts a lot of skill) and Spencer (ditto).

It wouldn't at all surprise me to see the last two in though. Depends if Roos thinks the 22 we had in can lift and deserve a second chance or if he thinks it's time for a change up.

I dont expect everyone to agree but Dawes has some straight at the ball, crashing the pack attributes of a back man. Would have liked to have seen him made to match up on the rampaging McCarthy last week for a spell. Once all was lost could have been worth a look and used as a disciplinary move as well. He is not a CHF.

mmmmmm........not everyone will agree as you say, but maybe worthy of consideration depending upon match ups

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
