Clash Jumpers

Recommended Posts

A couple of times yesterday, I reckon our players confused the guernseys. Our players had to accustom themselves to picking out our players in St Kda-like jumpers.

Once, when Jetta ran clear , couldn't see any short options, and booted it 50m to a Saint out by himself( who had plenty of time to hit a teammate on the chest, resulting in a goal from his pass). I can't remember the exact details of the other occasion, but it was similar.

So I think it's possible that it might not have happened if we'd worn less StKilda- like jumpers, and we might have won!

That was Jetta being selfish and playing for himself.

"Get this ball out of the defensive 50 so I don't have to worry about it".

Unfortunately that doesn't work these days - it just comes straight back.

We have a red clash jumper. I am uncertain as to why we wouldn't have worn it against the saints. It was spoken about last year after we almost clashed more with saints by wearing white. The same thing this year. Mind boggling stuff from the AFL, but hardly surprising. I don't know when or if we will wear the red clash. What was the point of having it if the AFL weren't going to allow it to be worn.

As I also said, it wasn't the only stupid clash jumper assignment on the weekend. GWS who usually wear orange changed to a white And grey jumper to ensure they didnt clash with black and white of Collingwood

If Tight azz Channel 7 broadcast games in HD then there would be no need for these abomination clash jumpers, and that is what they are. All of them.

By the time they get to broadcast HD 'SWYL', everyone else would have moved on to the next big thing.

I found it hard to get used to at first, especially being on the top level. Way too much white on the field, even though our previous white one was worse. The red definitely was the better alternative + we should be allowed to wear it as it actually features our colours.

Also, apparently when it was introduced it said we would be wearing the red clash on 'several occasions' this year. Surely with a no-show against the Saints there's a good chance we won't wear it at all?

I don't mind them.

They look ok.

I like them too.

I don't like wearing them when there's no need, though.

Shits me royally we cant have this as an alternate!

and if we have to have white : (although id have the red and blue v's next to eachother)

Stole these from bigfooty - because they are good

The current jumpers are fine, there's nothing wrong with them. It's the times we're required to put them on that are the problem.

I think I will email the club to clarify. I am thinking we at Carlton at the G, is that an away match? Might wear it then.

Agree Titan. Surely at the start of the season the AFL could get the traditional and away strip of each club and work out the likely clashes.

There is no doubt against the Saints our clash jumper actually clashed more than our traditional strip. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Surely you are not suggesting that AFL might be making a mistake hb.

Old, I know it's hard for them to fathom but it's just so bloody obvious. I would have thought Mark Evans who seems to be a pretty sensible guy, would look at it and say "look this is stupid, supporters want to see their traditional strips, unless there is a obvious clash let's let the teams play in their traditional jumpers."

Leigh Matthew's comment about the white socks making them look like soccer players was right on the money. Somehow that just looks wrong ... As for the rest of it, somehow I don't think Hawthorn and Adelaide clash, and that crappy jumper makes me want to chunder.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
