I reckon he would be good on a wing. Has enough motor to run up and down the ground all day, has enough pace for that position, good mark for transitional play and on the burst along the wing delivering it neatly to the forwards.

I agree, like Crossy who has countless times this year has backed into a pack and taken valuable overhead marks, Jack could do this too. Plus there wouldn't be any problem when it came to hearing footsteps from Trenners (about as brave as they come)

I suppose what it really comes down to is:

The risk that Jack Trengove doesn't come back from injury

VS

The risk that the player we would pick with our last pick in the draft is not as good as a fit Jack Trengove.

Which risk is lower? I think most would agree that the known quantity that is Trengove, who is easily in our best 22, and is AFL top 8 team worthy (unlike some of our current best 22!), is a worth while reward.

So therefore a direct comparison of risk is appropriate and I think we have made the right choice.

It might not work but it is a similar percentage chance than the other option with potentially higher reward.

You can only make so many changes every year because their is a limit to the amount of decent players you can bring in (unless of course your name is Neeld).

The draft only has so much depth, we may be able to lure a free agent or trade - that probably leaves us with maybe a max of 8 changes.

We already have a large list of players which we know are not part of the MFC's future including the likes of Mckenzie, terlich, jamar etc.

It's a no-brainer I think

The true fact is that nobody, not even you, knows how things will turn out for JT

he will not have just sat out two years going fishing or watching movies.

He was a dedicated footballer, and has been mentioned our new professional club structure will have him doing lots of non physical tasks to help the club and to help him learn, as was done with Jesse.

If physically able he may well return a far more rounded and competent player and potential leader than he was at his previous peak.

Clearly Trengove will be getting some of these 'when life you gives you lemons' lessons right now.

I don't understand this 'he's finished' attitude some people have. JT has played 81 games. The most anybody has played from his draft is D.Martin at 119. In the top 20 of that draft, he has actually played the 8th most games. All that has happened is that he's missed two seasons. Every club every year has a couple of season-ending injuries. He's just been unlucky enough to have two years worth.

The club would not be carrying him if they thought he was a write-off. They would have shipped him out to get some speculative ruckman on the list or something. I absolutely expect him to be lining up in Round 1, 2016.

I don't think he's an AFL standard on-baller. We saw the potential of what he can do in his first couple of years but he really plodded along in 2012-2013 and was beaten up by much better players each week when given the reins. Could've been injuries, could've been the burden of captaincy, but I'm not expecting him to become a midfield star, much more a handy flanker/winger if he does get full fitness back. I do think he can play an important role as we become a top 8 side again as he seems passionate and determined

Any coincidence that he was carrying a foot injury 2012-13? Any possibility that this and not his general limitations held him back?

As I said at the start, nobody knows - what he needs is a hell of a lot of support and encouragement from true demon fans, not speculation as to how fast he will run or whether the game has passed him by. His injury and his rehabilitation has been handled very well by this new club.

I was talking to a close family member of Jack's yesterday. She told me that he is fighting fit, has put his heart and soul into rehab and whilst he might be ready to come back before the season's end, he will definitely be ready to go round one 2016.

lets hope the rest will get him over his foot and help him to recover some speed. I would expect him to have a bigger more physical presence now that he has been restricted in what he can do. Could be a real bonus for us next year.

That's great news and I hope he progresses further in his rehab however, correct me if I'm wrong, he has only just re-commenced full load running again so the real tests regards his foot as opposed to his fitness have only just begun.

Never said this before to anyone but I met jack Trengove and Luke tapscott in 2013, a few days before Neeld got the sack. They were down in Adelaide to watch Prince Alfred College (their former high school) play against their rivals. We talked for a bit because I'm a good friend of one of their former team mates at Sturt. They told me that the both of them as well as the majority of the team had lost confidence in themselves and the football department, this was their explanation as to why they had been performing so bad at the time.

I'm sure now that it's changed since we have a (hopefully) more competent football department. No idea why I've held onto this information for so long but might as well tell people now. My dad got a photo of them too, we thought they were short but they were so much bigger than us haha.

Providing his foot holds up, it will be a huge positive for us knowing that an 80 game player who has proven talent and skill could slot straight in and contribute.

Gone will be the days of seeing Matt Jones and Bail on the team sheet.

I had the opportunity to both meet Trengove and have an extended conversation with him at a reception before the Darwin game a few years ago. He was a most delightful, down to earth, enthusiastic and frank young man. He has been unfortunate with injury but also received a lot of unfair and unnecessary criticism on this forum. We have all seen him play good footy. I hope he comes back and sticks it up the doubters!
