Well i just bought my dog a membership... I couldn't resist, the whole 'sign up your pet' thing was too hilarious to pass up. Oh and i renewed mine too. If you're passionate enough to be on demonland whinging about not renewing ur membership a couple of months after the seasons ended, then like it or not u clearly care about the dees so just cough up a couple of bucks to support them.

Reasons to renew

1. Because the club is on the right path but needs our financial support to succeed

2. Because if you don't and we improve dramatically you miss out

Reasons not to renew

1. MFCSS

Top post.

If someone is struggling to enjoy games while the hope is low and the play is poor, I'd understand them downgrading from a premium members to a regular one.

Maybe the better use of the money is to set it aside to participate in non-game club functions. Maintain the connection while minimising the pain and the testing of patience.

I have dipped in again this year.

But I can understand those that have been alienated by the last 6 -7 years of onfield uncompetitiveness and the sustained bouts of incompetence off the field.

We as a Supporter base must expect to win 10 games this year...

After studying the Fixture we are a "chance" in 13 out of 22

We must be hard on the club if they wish to have access our collective bank accounts

Well its worked smashingly well to date. If you adopted any reasonable standards on the Club, you would not give them a dime.

But thats not how football supporting goes.

And the last few years should temper your expectations.

And after studying the fixture we are a "chance" to win all 22 out of 22. We are also a "chance" to win 4 out of 22.

I know at this point we are all optimistic wyl however I think you are doomed to disappointment.

I have looked at the fixture as well and I no confidence that goes beyond six wins.

To get more we will need a very large improvement from a lot of kids.

Remember, this is year two after starting from ground zero in 2014.

I don't vote in elections so i don't whinge when the country isn't going well. If you don't buy a membership I don't think you are entitled to whinge either, although it wont stop many of you!

It is a donation to the club we love. I pay my membership and wear it with pride. I would hate to be seen as a fair weather member. When we are successful I want people to know that I

Soidee you have to remain true. We will turn the corner

When you are lining up for drinks at half time at the Melbourne V Hawthorn Grand Final and there is a sad Hawks supporter complaining that they are 8 goals down because Hogan is giving Frawley a bath and he looks at you and says "you another bloody Melbourne bandwagon supporter? Come out of the woodwork they have". You'll be able to look him in the eye and say "Nah mate, supported them through thick and thin. Been a paid up member for the last 42 years"

very true.

And that will mean this playing group massively improve going forward.

And that will mean my membership payments keep rolling through.

I've never understood the whole 'I'm not renewing my membership because the team doesn't deserve it' thing.

If you're not paying up this year, do you think that has some sort of positive effect on the team? Or, do you think that by not renewing you are sending some sort of message that hasn't already been received by the low crowds, the booing, the hate mail, and the general obvious nature of how bad we have been?

All you are doing by not paying up is hurting the club's bottom line.

Worst thing is, when the club gets good again you are going to jump back on and say you made some sort of difference or that they have 'earned' your membership, when all you did was throw a hissy fit when you weren't happy.

If it's a financial decision that's a different story but if you're simply choosing not to renew when you are able to, I don't rate you as a supporter.

I am.

Unless you say it all cockney like. As in 'orrible.

I said it in a cockney accent in my head.

It's no different to "an horse" or "an hippopotamus"...

Every year I declare NO MORE .......
Every year I relent and buy 1 anyway.

And every year they [censored] me off with inept performance.

Just sign up. That is all. If money is an issue, buy a three game membership. The club needs your support.

So how does a lifelong Demon Supporter send a strong message to the MFC that enough is enough and it is time to "Put Up" on the park, so as not to offend you Tight One?

I am a full MFC/MCC Member for 2015 btw...

Manure on their doorstep?

It was seriously considered after a certain game in 2011..

The shame and sadness i felt the following week was similar to losing a family member.

Plus the man running the show kept his job!

I guess at the end of the day, we supporters need to rate Melbourne as a club.

I appreciate that it is selfish to an extent but when a club continually shoots itself via cronyism and chronic mismanagement in the foot by a clique of mates (I appreciate they are mostly gone but that's no guarantee that the old guard of the MFC is gone forever) and by a playing group who for a very long time did not know what it meant to be professional (they still might not know), the loyalty argument wears thin when no loyalty is shown to the support group through good, old fashioned, workman like performances.

The thing I like is that PJ has basically said he understands why 6000 members haven't renewed and that it is the job of the club to win them back. This is in stark contrast to Don McLardy (who usually had his heart in the right place) who came out and said 'we don't want fake supporters'. Well, were you giving the supporters value for money?

I agree with WYL to an extent. The club does need to give something back. Holding their feet to the fire however does not entail coming on here ranting and demanding constant change. At the end of the day, as devastating as it may be to the club's bottom line, the only way we can protest is by voting with our feet or running for the board (and there are few who post here who would be able to do that).

I am 50/50 on resigning (mostly due to my living arrangements for 2015) but that GWS game still lingers in my head. Was that rock bottom? The sad thing is that over the last little bit we thought we had reached rock bottom only to be disappointed further.

Fair point, genuine supporters don't even contemplate not renewing as I see it.

Why do you feel so compelled to send a message? Do you not think the club is aware of how poorly they're doing, that the supporters want to see us leave this era of mediocrity behind?

The message has been sent, numerous times.

The message has been sent, numerous times.

But looking at the last 10 rounds of 2014 you have to wonder whether the message ever reaches anywhere.

When our list is paid the same amount as a top 4 side how can we gain REAL incentive to improve on field.

Over the last 8 years over $70 million would have been paid to our players by Members and Sponsors.

That is high stakes for 35 wins!!!

MFC supporters are a tough lot. I got laughed at in primary school for being a Demon, it still happens TODAY and i am in my 50's.

I do not blame any Demon supporter for doing a "Peter Finch...Network Meltdown out the window"

We deserve a far better return on our investment.

And Yes i love the MFC but it kills me a little each year seeing it belted around.

Next years fixture doesn't help either financially.

Yep you are right.

Round 2 2013 was the last match i attended live. It was that bad. Watching football should not bring on feelings of depression and that's the road it was heading.

That said i will be going to Round 1 2015.....

Signed up.

I sign up every year.

Some years I go to lots of games, some years (e.g. 2012) I go to virtually none.

But membership gives me the right to say "These are MY BOYS and they're playing shite / playing well / showing some promise / all farked up" or whatever.

And I can say it with a sense of ownership. They are MY team.

If I'm just a supporter, I haven't fully bought in.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
