Why: Damaging player by hand and by foot. Strong mark. Pace is ok without being great. Seems to be able to play some inside and outside. Sometimes seems to lack some awareness and can get caught. Also has had some injury problems but the talent is there.

Ben is an AIS graduate, Colts team of year member in 09 and is a capt of his Colts side. Many wont have seen him because he played very little Champs football due to injury (appendicitis) earlier in the year. I think he will need a year or two to develop but there is certainly a lot of development left in him. Not afraid to run and carry and his left foot is a weapon. Gets great penetration with it so becomes one of those 70m players which are incredibly important in breaking down zones in the modern game. Also ticks a few other boxes insomuch as he can take a contested mark, will collect his own footy and can use it very well by hands in traffic. If I had one knock on the kid it would be that he can get caught. Am unsure whether he is just trying to get to his left side or whether he lacks awareness / vision. In some ways kind of reminds me of Nick Suban or Heath Black for those a bit older so certainly a very exciting prospect. From all reports a lovely kid and will present really well to clubs. I wouldnt be at all surprised if Ben goes a little higher come draft day and hence I would have a draft range from 17 - 35.

He was a required player by PA, but chose to leave.

The above assumes that both Salem and Toumpas have a strong pre-season, but it grieves me to think that Cross, JKH and Stretch may not be automatic selections, plus that Jamar, Pederson, Mitchie, Bail and co-captain Grimesmay also be squeezed out by some of the new blood.

I must say I would have Grimes before Kent, maybe swapping Dunn into the forward pocket and put grimes down back, otherwise, like this side particularly with Brayshaw and Mccartin in. Mccartin and hogan could be anything, and frees up Howe to be his destructive self. Exciting line up.

Well there should at least be competition for spots and if we have a good run with injury then Casey wont be short on ball winning players. If Lumumba plays off one wing with some time at half back and we get some rotations from the forwards then there's 1 genuine wing spot that probably doesn't suit Newton. I think we will all be hoping for Watts to make it his own or Toumpas, with Matt Jones the fall back. The other spot will come down to a versatile mid who can play forward, wing, in the centre etc. Newton's in with a shot if he has a good preseason as he does seem reasonably versatile.

MFC should offer the kid a 2 year contract. Bypass our pick 53, and select him in PSD # 2. Solid, left footer, 22yo, ready to go. He was very unlucky not to make Port's finals team. Emergency on 5-6 times in last half of 2014.
