Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

FMD we have the chance to take an imposing KPF In Mc Cartin who will become a great player and some are talking up Lever and Laverde?

As I said FMD after Mids we need KPF not friggen cute half back or half forward flankers, jack of all trade types! Sheeit. We have a chance to build a spine!!

If Hogan continues to have injury concerns what are we left with ?? Friggen try hard Pederson and even try harder Fitzy!

Shheeit this aint rocket science and it aint all that hard to work out!

Agree that another key forward is a priority but I think Roos would go for a free agent rather than a greenhorn.

I would think Tex or Cameron are well and truly on the radar.

Not all our deficiencies will be corrected in 1 draft.

You don't know me that well. I was talking about the game of patience! As an MFC suppoerter I have learned to play it well!

I think that we will take McCartin if we sign Ben Newton. We need another Tall Forward to compliment Hogan and Dawes. We will fulfil our needs for a back with Frost, a small forward with Garlett, a Half Back winger with Lumumba and 3 mids in Newton, Stretch and Brayshaw. All together that looks like a complete draft period for pretty much every part of the 22, except of course for a Ruckman which I think will be a position that we look to fill next year.

Ironic; you're actually the ignorant one in this instance...

I don't know many players and I don't know much about a lot of the politics in AFL footy.

But I do know a few of the Geelong boys and I do know exactly what has happened with Bundy.

He's done a very stupid thing but to say the club didn't want to keep him is laughable. They did everything in their power to keep him but for his sake he needed to get out of Geelong and Victoria. You have no idea what you're talking about in this instance.

As demonlanders, only a very select few know something about who we are looking at, and even fewer in this world know who is a lock for 2 and 3, the rest is just speculation off what the MFC/PR/JM release.

One thing we do know is PR isn't waiting for 3 years to get results, his main priority will be to pick the best available who can make an impact in the next 6-24 months. Of course, talent is the next, but we can be sure he wants a kid who can push for selection early next year. To do this, they need maturity, weight and the size to do so.

So, top 5/6?

Petracca = looks like he will make an impact early in the year

Brayshaw = looks like he will make an impact straight away

McCartin = some impact this year, but needs a few seasons for proper FF impact

Lever = knee reco, light, probably needs a few seasons for proper impact

Wright = already heavy enough, but ruckman take time

Laverde = probably needs 2 preseasons in the gym before making an impact

Going on body size and maturity alone, Petracca + Brayshaw + McCartin.

If all 3 are available, Petracca and Brayshaw

With the acquisition of Newton. I'm thinking Brayshaw & McCartin is more likely.

But I am optimistic we may still take another mid with Pick 3.

I have a that feeling Taylor Walker will come over as a FA next season.

Definite trend of becoming increasingly difficult to get the high picks right.

Alternately the latent talent runs deeper and isn't being identified correctly.

It's not a trend - it's set in stone, forever in a day reality that so many fail to grasp. We have a host of immature footballers coming through a system with little emphasis on defense. And then we try to rate them in order ! The order of selection for every draft compared to output has been wrong and will continue to be so. Clubs will pick a player and two seasons later supporters will rue that they could have had someone else at a later selection.

Of course talent isn't being identified correctly because who you select or don't select now will look markedly different in two to four years time.

So if we draft McCartin also & he plays 9 games or more we should be able to trade him to the doggies for their captain & 1st round pick next year ...

Doubt it will happen with the competition for young talent. Soccer don't have this age cap and a lot more talented kids will start moving down this path, raising the draft age will make it harder to get the best kids in the land.

Those who will play Soccer, will play Soccer.

This year we are likely to see less than 70 live draft selections. This is the future. Teams will cast their nets across wiser seas in the desire to select footballer who have shown real ability , playing the proper game as opposed 'skills' whilst kidding around in the hybrid version. I think this will continue and with the likelihood of 10 or so of even these picks being used for elevations I can see a future whereby less players are drafted than was the previous norm. To address this the criteria must change.

If you look at how many actually remain in the system as opposed who has been drafted in prior seasons i dont think raising the age will cause any drying up of talent at all. If anything it will help to weed out the imposters.

I dont think anyone is suggesting a wholesale lifting by say 2-3 years, just a tinkering of a year to 18 months ( latter my preference) so as to get the youths over their educational hurdles and have actually lived as young adults if even for a short period

More good reasons for raising the draft age

I don't want to raise the draft age so there is more certainty for clubs around selections ( if we stick to the current age limits then we have to accept it is more of a lottery). More certainty around selections is definitely a byproduct of raising the age though.

I want the age raised so there is more maturity in incoming footballers both in terms of skill levels and physical development. I was going to make a case for more emotional maturity but I don't the thinking of 18 year old as opposed to a 20 year old is that much different to be a huge benefit.

That sounds fair. Can we get Bontempelli appointed to their captaincy.

What you are asking is for kids who chose to be professional sportsmen, to take two years off their [limited] working life! I am not sure how the AFL Players Association will view that as a good idea!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
