I still think so too ... I'd be thinking along the lines as noted that JT ought to be for the other LTI Holiday aka Camp -Rookie !!

I honestly don't see how anyone loses by that happening. He's not playing in 15 (at the very least) and by his own admission.

I'm with you there, Bub.

It would be inconceivable if we didn't avail ourselves of the opportunity to use pick 40 (effectively 37th because a few clubs are already committed to selections due to the bidding process) in this draft.

There will definitely be some handy footballers available at this selection and it's not as if delisting and reselecting players as rookies is unique to us or a bad thing to do in these circumstances - it's not.

If we are only using picks 2 and 3 (which is unlikely) then we practically traded Frost for nothing.

In other words, we traded him for a pick we wouldn't have used. We may as well have traded him for pick 123.

Outside i heard a bird chirp 3 times, which my dog barked at once. The bird then responded with 2 more chirps, which were met with 2 further barks from my dog.

From this i can deduce that either Pe-tra-cca or Mc-Car-tin will go at pick 1. Bray-shaw will go at pick 2.

There were no further draft whispers between the bird and my dog, so i am unable to decipher who we will pick at #3.

Thats the most sense I have heard from this thread!

Nup, assuming the aints take Petracca, its gotta be Brayshaw at 2 and Mc Cartin at 3

I am an universally regarded as an "Astute" judge am I not ?? After all I did pick Ollie Wines !!

We wont be taking McCartin as I said before. 3 is between Lever and Laverde. That is from my golf mate

In regards to 40 and 53, we still have not finalised our list and quite possibly will have another delisting with paid out one year contract. And that will be that

Frost is a beauty - wait and see.

I agree. And for all you knuckleheads that think we wasted pick 23 on him, Saints were into him. They took Membrey as DFA and had first pick in PSD. He will go well, a cool customer!

Brisbane gave up pick 21 for Allen Christensen. A talented 23 years old already a premiership player with a lot of class and skill with 65 games experience.

We gave pick 23 for Sam Frost and pick 40 and 53 which looks likely that we will not even use..

In my opinion it was just a poor trade.

For a bloke that has more issues than Nathan Carroll and is a ticking time bomb...

Make no mistake, Geelong didn't try very hard to keep Christensen, in spite of the midfield run they'd be losing.

But if indeed we are only going to use picks 2 and 3 and not another selection, then it will be because our primary list is full (including Sam Frost). That does mean we gave up pick 23 for Frost which is the opportunity cost foregone to secure the player.

I don't know enough about Frost and time will tell in the long run whether it's a good deal or not but I have no doubt that there is every likelihood that a midfielder of some worth and potential is thereabouts at 40.

Again, time will tell.

Would be absolute insanity to trade in for pick 40 and not use it.

Opportunity cost, I feel like I'm back in economics!!

I actually think pick 23 for Frost will end up being a great trade for us

aren't you really meaning to say, that you wish us all would be happy & optimistic that we got Frost in,,, even If it did cost us P-23. ???

the other way of looking would be that we could have maybe got Frost for P-40, & we also could have had P-23 for another kid, maybe another Mid? the Saints screwed us, & maybe the GWS asked the Saints for some help to get the price up? could that be draft tampering by the Saints?

Posted

What is a bigger need for us? A key position defender (we have McDonald, Garland, Dunn with Pedo as backup) or a midfielder. Our backline was fine this year without Chip.

For me we panicked into over paying for Frost and should still have pick 23 to use on a young quality mid who slipped out of the first round. I thought it at the time, and even moreso now that it looks like we won't be using the other picks that were part of the deal.

Posted

Really, if we were set on acquiring Frost to fill a need, and were happy to go the draft with only 2 live picks, pick 23 may as well have been pick 4. Or alternatively pick 104.

Either way, we weren't going to use it.

So those saying we gave up too much in pick 23... We were never going to be able to select a mature KPD in the draft.

And clearly Brissie wanted too much for Merrett, or he was less appealing.

But I'm more and more comfortable with this trade as time goes on.

You can spin it any way you want, but it would be downright idiotic to not use pick 40 (37 thanks WJ) when you have it in hand. Still a chance to strike it lucky and land a beauty. I'd like to see who this new recruiting team come up with,

We can manipulate the list to free it up so it shouldn't be a problem. If it is a problem we are hacks!

Settle. Passing on 40 might not be a given. If a valuable draftee slipped to 40 I have no doubt we'd call his name out and shuffle the list around to make room. Aren't there list lodgements after the draft? Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Come on 'Moon', we need something to argue about. The who will go pick 2 & 3 thing has just about run it's course....

Laughably ignorant and incorrect post

At pick 40 you could nab your self a Luke Parker and even another Dean Kent.

You still need to bring in youth for depth aswell. Cant just afford to rely on fringe players to help this club. Michie and Riley weren't exactly permanent 22 players this year.

You can only nab them if they are there, maybe they have analysed the draft and decided outside of the Top 20 they don't see a Parker or Kent.

Maybe they are happy with pick 2, 3, Frost and Billy Stretch.

They may figure given the even spread of players after the first two rounds there will be a few to pick from as rookies who they think have as much chance of breaking through as those outside the first twenty to thirty

reckon he'll be cool under the pump, JR ?

I hope so, DL....his highlights show that he reads the game well and waits for a good option.

I'm hoping our defence doesn't get as bombarded as much as it has in the past..

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
