So we have 3 available list spots, with 4 picks in the draft, and we want somone from the PSD?

As of next Monday we will have a fair few more spots those who weren't traded will be delisted and 1 or two others will have their contracts paid out. We will have around 6 spots available

Would the player we would have picked at 23 be of equal or lesser value than Frost? Most likely.

I don't really see the big deal.

We'd need to pay out Evans, McKenzie and someone else to have 6 spots available.

We have a lot of space in the salary cap those two wont be on big coin. They aren't going to make it I have no issue especially with Evans being paid out

Me either, happy to do it but are speculative draftees at pick 53 and 61 going to be much better?

Sorry about this request, but can someone break down our trade period and how many spots are available / delisting's and live trade picks we will have. My head is about to explode !!

Aside from the Frost deal which appears overs I dont understand the angst. You cant force deals to happen. Those we did do we won. No player that was traded elsewhere was a realistic target for us as they went interstate or the other club paid serious overs.

Whilst I can understand the disappointment at not landing a big fish or immediately fixing our midfield I am keen to hear why people think we failed?

Pick 23 for a player that couldnt get in to their team and was drafted as a rookie, great stuff mahoney

Agree Rjay all the geniuses on here, hope they have done their homework on the draft. From what I have seen this draft runs very deep a limit on stars so we get the potential stars with the first 2 picks, Stretch and use the other two picks on another 2.

I implore everyone to do some homework on this years draft pool not a lot of difference between 20-60 on what I have seen

Seems to be...one of my favourites is Gore who has been rated in the mock drafts from 20 to rookie.

We get prime position in the PSD and Frost gets an early start learning the game plan.

Also there was no Bernie Vince around this year and no Dom Tyson deal.

Frost had interest from St Kilda, so had to do it.

so Pelchen & the Saints are trying to screw us as well, we Owe them then big time.

they just wanted to force us to spend our 2nd Rndr, as we got P-3 & Stretch as a 3rd Rnd pick...

paybacks a [censored] Saints, start bending over.

I don't really see the big deal.

Could we have got him for free? Yes. Will they be of equal or greater value? Yes.

He was last in the KPD line at GWS. The only reason he got games was injuries to Gilham(11 games out injured) and Davis(14 games out injured).

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he the one who had 10 goals kicked on him by both J.Kennedy and J.Riewoldt this year?

Does that mean we have 4 live draft picks?

We have 2, 3, 40 & 53. This excludes 83, 97 & 115 which won't be used on picks.

why is everyone picking on Mahoney, he would have been acting on decisions made by the recruiting team, which would have included input from Paul Roos. Mahoney mentioned they are looking to use the first pick in the PSD to pick up a player they are keen on, so that also comes into the equation on why we spent pick 23 as well as the fact that we have two more late picks, which may still give us upgrades for a couple of our lesser lights. Lastly we got a player caused Tyson last year because he had trouble getting a game also with the same team. Roos and the recruiting teams saw a player they wanted because he is the sort of player we need, lets see how he plays with our team before we say it was a failure.

Hawks get O Rourke for pick 19. We get Frost for 23

GWS smelt desperation and pounced!

Tyson was a pick 3 who was a walk up start at GWS when not injured. Frost was a rookie pick who spent the last 7 games in the reserves.

Not sure why people are so mad about essentially swapping 23 for Frost and 40. Frost we wanted and in looking over the last few drafts there's not been a clear year where 23 has been better than 40.

Pick 40 has got Parker (Syd) and Christensen (Geel), so I trust that they have someone in mind, who might have been pick 23 potential anyway. (Not saying we'll get a Parker or Christensen, just examples).

Personally I doubt the potential of 53 also. Seems theres a smokey in the PSD

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
