Pick 2 and Fitzpatrick to Saints for 1

Pick 1 to GWS for Shiel and their second rounder.

BOOM

spot on!

Sure, if "boom" is the sound of your brain spontaneously combusting.

Combusting from awesome overload? You got that straight!

GWS will only trade for Petracca (1) and Saints although they say they want Petracca, they were willing to trade down with GWS to 3 but now we have it.

Petracca to GWS

McCartin and Fitzpatrick to Saints

Sheil and pick (22?) to demons

This is actually a good trade for all concerned although GWS would have to rate Petracca over Shiel which would be strange, but then again they rated what's his name over Dom Tyson

Or they would have to think they are likely to lose him in the next year or so. We don't actually know if Shiel wants to leave

It's also funny/foolish that we're all expecting that GWS absolutely want Petracca. Where did this actually come from? I doubt they've actually come out and said anything that confirms this as obviously, otherwise they'd be stupid.

You think St Kilda are going to swap Pick 1 for 2 - giving up the best 18 year old in the country - for Jack Fitzpatrick?

Give me a break. Fitzy can't get a regular gig for the 2nd worst side in the league. He has diabetes and can't kick. And you think St. Kilda will give up pick 1 for that?

And Shiel is worth Pick 1 by himself, let alone Shiel AND pick 22.

Sure I'd love that trade. But there will be icicles forming on satan's pitchfork before that goes through.

Saints need McCartin more than they need petracca, why do you think they were floating around pick 1 before we got pick 3?

Fitzpatrick kinda just thrown in there as I know rhey need some forwards, we couldn't afford or don't have any mids for them .

Also depends how much GWS want petracca. Apparently pretty badly

Posted (edited)

If St Kilda end up preferring Mccartin over Petracca, we would be completely foolish to trade either pick 2 or 3. Acquiring Petracca and Brayshaw would set up our midfield for the next 10 years, with one who is compared to a fast Dustin Martin (without the personality deficiencies) and another who is compared to Ollie Wines.

Unless we can get Dangerfield, there is no better result.

These boys are also ready made players, no waiting in the wings for these beasts.

Now I like it

Just hope that St Kilda does not dig out a player that they can off load to GWS and pick up another compensation pick ala Essendon and Port's proposed deal as that would give them pick 1 and 2.

Well given that analysis I am sure we will take another road. We have always taken another road to avoid the draft guns for the last 8 years, why change now? Are we going to trade out for a number of tried and true journeymen instead? Sorry just bitter and twisted at how we nearly always get it wrong.

MORE COMEDY GUYS

How about this: Ryder to Melbourne for Pick 3, Melbourne on-trade Ryder to Port for pick 37 and Alipate Carlisle or straight swap for Jackson Trengrove? They need a key defender badly so they could be interested in something like this.

The logic: we give pick 3 for Ryder. But then when we trade Ryder ourselves we only get pick 37 and Alipate Carlisle....

Nup, if anything it means Danger has defected to us. Doubt Sloane would be on Instagram announcing he's joining Melbourne.

Apparently 3 clubs are keen on St Kildas pick 1. Could we be one of those? Pick 3 a d swap of our 2nd rounder for St kildas 3rd rounder and a guarantee we wont take McCartin?

Hun reporting that Mitch Hallahan is looking for a trade. If it's true, he would be a great pick up.

Really impressed in the few games that I've seen him play. Just the sort of player we need.

Melbourne will get GWS defender Sam Frost, with GWS and the Demons working on a trade for the younger brother of Collingwood’s Jack Frost.

GWS is asking for Melbourne’s second pick and while the Demons are reluctant a deal will eventually be brokered.

It means the Demons will lure Carlton’s Jeff Garlett (for a late pick), Collingwood’s Heritier Lumumba and some defensive cover given James Frawley has left for Hawthorn.

Frost underwent a medical at Melbourne last week and had previously met Paul Roos, with Melbourne believing he is ready to blossom after 21 AFL games at the Giants

Why wouldn't St Kilda just take McCartin at pick 1 then?

No need to swap pick 1 for 3 then for us to make a 'guarantee' not to take McCartin.

The only thing this deal achieves is us losing a 2nd round pick.

Our second rounder for Frost?? He was taken in the rookie draft and has played 12 games. Tell 'em they're dreaming!

I'm more and more convinced that we should go to the draft with pick 2-3 as this week goes on. B+ grade talent is only available and I doubt we will attract a top end player.

We need another key defender (frost/gwilt), a rebounding defenender (lumumba), speed (gartlett & stretch), quality midfielder (petracca/brayshaw) and 1 more quality key forward, developing or not (Mccartin/Wright). This will be a fairly decent make over of the list and sits us in a great development position also.

I agree with this fully. I think even Roos must realise that there's a chance here to address nearly all of our deficiencies by going to the draft with 2 & 3. I think everyone would rather a ready-made mid like Shiel instead of drafting an 18yo... but no one really wants to give up a ready made mid so there's not much to be done.

Stay strong and hit the draft. Lumumba + Garlett is an improvement. And next year we can expect Hoges, trengove, viney, tyson, salem, toumpas, kent to all play/improve. So not all doom and gloom by getting players with 2 & 3 that wont play and impact in round 1.

Adding experience is a weight of numbers game I reckon. Next year we'll have Jones, Vince, Lumumba, Cross, Dawes, Dunn and probably someone I'm forgetting with a good amount of experience. The balance is slowly getting better.

It's no wonder we haven't seen many trades done yet.

Obviously clubs just play funny buggers for the first week and nothing serious actually happens until the final 2 days.

If GWS legitimately think we're that stupid... well... isn't he OOC anyway?? Let him walk to the PSD for crying out loud.

Frost + GWS pick 42 = MFC pick 23 ... hmmm maybe

Lamumba = Clark = Varcoe

Gartlett = pick 55.

MFC 2,3, 41 (Stretch), 42, 73 Jetta (rookie upgrade)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
