Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I don't rate Shiel at the same rate as Danger at this point in time; so I think 3 is overs atmo.

Tomlinson I'm surprised at your quote, but can't dispute it..... but it seems Jaksch is rated by clubs atmo,,, & is seen at around P-10ish, so I imagine Tomlinson worth less than that?

Not sure the relevance in regard to Dangerfield. To get him we'd need to give both pick 2 and 3.

Shiel would have been a top 3 pick for certain, maybe number 1, had he not been pre-selected before his draft year and is just starting to hit his straps. He represents a ready-to- go 8-10 year player with speed, aggression, contested ball-winning ability and penetration by foot. Fairly certain we would give up the opportunity to take Brayshaw in order to get him and I'm certain we would need to at least give that to get him off GWS if they put him on the table. If he was in the draft pool, I dare say St Kilda would take him one and we definitely take him at two or three. Remember we gave up effectively Pick 6 or 7 after you weigh the value of the draft picks exchanged in order to get Dom Tyson, a less highly rated and less proven commodity at the time.

Tomlinson is a hugely talented key position player who can play both ends and would be drafted in the top 10 in the draft for absolute certain. Why would GWS give up a 50-game CHF/CHB who can kick it a mile and is extremely mobile, strong and versatile for anything less than a top 10 pick in a draft with a dearth of key forwards.

It's got nothing to do with what Shiel would be worth in the draft now, it's about the likely compensation GWS might get for him going forward. If he wants to go and we can give pick 2 or 3, they'll do it. Particularly, if that pick will provide them with Petracca.

What has Judd got to do with it?

And the point about Judd is that West Coast traded him (the only comparison to Ablett in the modern game) and pick 46 for picks 3, 20 and Josh Kennedy (also a previous first round draft pick). Shiel is on the cusp of A grade, but he's not Ablett or Judd (yet). Shiel is worth a top 5 draft pick and maybe a third or second rounder. We'd be able to satisfy them with pick 3 though.

So much for Roos being the master list builder. To date he has lost our number 1 forward and number 1 defender, and the best he might be able to do in return is Lumumba and Garlett, both unwanted by their current clubs. Perhaps he should cancel his holiday and work on bringing some established midfielders to the club.

The two win season we are heading for next year will be fun to watch.

Do you actually follow the Dees?

Ok, so my current wishlist of trades/player signings.

Clark to Geelong

Varcoe to Collingwood

Lumumba to Melbourne

Fitzpatrick, Blease & Pick 61 to Carlton

Garlett & Pick 46 to Melbourne

Pick 46 to GWS

Frost to Melbourne

Pick 3 & Evans to Bulldogs

Pick 6 & Hrovat to Melbourne

Delist: Tapscott, Strauss, Georgiou

Delisted Free Agent Period:

James Gwilt

National Draft:

Pick 2: Angus Brayshaw

Pick 6: Liam Duggan

Pick 23: Oscar McDonald (Take the punt)

Pick 42: Billy Stretch (F/S)

Pick 79: Neville Jetta (rookie upgrade)

Rookie Draft:

Pick 2: Jesse Watchman

Pick 20: Brett Eddy

Nice work, but do you actually have time for work?

Yea that one

That was probably Poita ringing up SEN!

Well we didnt last year with 2 and we won't again in all likelihood with 2 or 3 this year for either he or Treloar.

I don't understand why GWS would feel obliged to give back an extra pick for a player who'd be drafted in the first three if he was in the draft pool.

It's possible they'd say no to the extra pick, I'd say highly probable actually, but you always aim a little higher than your realistic expectations. Invariably, you end up with your realistic expectation. I'd trust Roos and co to get this done. Obviously, if Shiel isn't interested in leaving then it all means nought.

He wants to leave or at least has previously, but GWS - point blank - refuse to trade their upper echelon youngsters.

Would pick 3 and 23 get us Tomlinson, Jaksch and Frost? Carlton can't get the right trade currency to make the deal happen so they're shopping Jaksch around to Essendon of all places.

Would improve our talls, midfield and defense, and we keep pick 2 for Brayshaw.

Why would you do that, you will get one of them in the PSD if you convince them to come so effectively you are giving up a top 3 Pick and our second round pick for 2 players who are not regulars

Pick 3 should give you a Shiel or Trelaor and something else down the order, other clubs like the Dogs can give us Pick 6 and a player for that Pick

I gather that happened last year, but if the spectre of Shiel jumping ship after his contract is still as strong this year, surely GWS would bite the bullet...

I'm sorry mate, don't agree. Danger is only worth a top 3 pick plus a good young player.. no one is worth two top 3 picks... its just too much risk in one Body.

I think if a 3rd Rnd pick gets Frost..... then with Shiel wanting to come home, & in this strong draft a top 3 Pick would get him done + some cool change, namely Frost IMO should round it out.

But I'd like a Crack @ Jaksch as well, So IMO for Shiel, Jaksch, & Frost, P-2, 23, 33, & Bail should Seal the deal... with a promise they won't take Brayshaw.

Tempt the Eagles with

Mfc : Andrew Gaff and Eagles pick 30

Eagles: Mfc pick 3 & 23 & 55

we keep #2 Angus Brayshaw

we keep #30 Oscar Mcdonald

get Gaff

get Stretch

get Lamumba ... in Clark trade

get Gartlett ... in Blease trade

I'm more and more convinced that we should go to the draft with pick 2-3 as this week goes on. B+ grade talent is only available and I doubt we will attract a top end player.

We need another key defender (frost/gwilt), a rebounding defenender (lumumba), speed (gartlett & stretch), quality midfielder (petracca/brayshaw) and 1 more quality key forward, developing or not (Mccartin/Wright). This will be a fairly decent make over of the list and sits us in a great development position also.

Yep have heard very very similar things. I think you will find Adam Cooney will be out of there. McCartney has just hung onto his job by the skin of his teeth.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
