WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA

Collingwoods culture is poor.

Harry may be from left field bit at least good bakes are high.

I believe he and Roos are great fits.

Our "culture" isn't too fragile for Harry. It's too fragile for Dane Swan or Dustin Martin.

What's wrong with Swan?

I saw it, and have thoroughly failed to understand why it's got people in to such a spin.

I see a man who is articulate and profound but hardly speaks with conviction.

I'm not decrying him for his passion but if he dialled it down a little bit, I can guarantee less of us would be uncomfortable.

Great point here. But it's the African in him - and probably the Brazilian too - that makes him tend to dial it up rather than down.

Yes, Anglo-Aussies do feel more comfortable to "dial it down", or to talk themselves down a bit. But most Africans I know think that's just a bit odd, and they find it difficult to get used to as it strikes them as being uncertain or even deceptive about what you're saying, "like you don't really mean it".

To some extent, what we might interpret as "getting ahead of yourself" is not uncommon for Africans. They see it not as boasting or big-noting yourself, but as just standing up for yourself.

It's just something we'll need to get used to. The two times I've met him, HL came across as very humble & self-effacing face-to-face, and a great bloke. And he does a fair bit for African young people, with no fanfare whatsoever.

He spoke about the club he is being kicked out of too...

He was also accepting a personal award at the time.

I think he can be forgiven for talking about himself and his motivations in his acceptance speech.

Fair enough.

so you just don't like him? Or you don't like how he sounds when talking, or the fact he speaks out publicly about Issues he feels strongly about. I hope your not a Kindy teacher, otherwise all your kids will sit on cold floors in the dark corner. Learning to stop whinging & just shutup.

Wouldn't go that far. Not sure how you managed to get that far either.

i just went on the Bigfooty Melbourne board for the first time ever

this is the title to their equivalent Demonland Heritier thread

'The [censored] we don't want Harry O thread'

What a great way to welcome a player to the club that actually wants to come to us and make an impact and be a leader to help us out of the mire.

Pathetic.

Wont be going to that forum ever again

.... Damn!

The club cant get him out the door quick enough. Why?

The best clubman award is like the fundraising queen at the local beauty pageant. Gotta give the ugly girls something hey?

And how does his standing in the best and fairest make him any less of a weirdo?? Irrelevant. I would be interested to hear what the players think after he leaves, as its far easier to speak the truth when the guy isn't there any more. I suspect there will be some popping corks.

For the record, I am happy at the thought of him running off half back, and delivering FORWARD, unlike our other half backs. I just hope the guy can keep his mouth shut, before he drives anyone mad.

Sign him up, and get him in the side.

If only some others shut their mouths. Why you mad Bro?

The beginning of his speech would've resonated well, talking about Collingwood's history and origins as a working class club that assisted society's least fortunate. I just think he did himself a bit of a disservice with that line at the end about the gifted prince having the last laugh. It was a strange punctuation, and a strange note to leave on.

But given it was to a room full of Collingwood faithful, I took some enjoyment from it. :)

Thank god Harry is capable of a little more eloquence than yeah nah. I'm sick and tired of bland Footballers being sh scared of expressing an honest opinion about anything. I don't care if he's bat sh crazy. To be honest I don't even care if I disagree with his rantings. I love passionate people who want to change the world for the better. In a sanitised world we have become scared and weary of the passionate. I for one will welcome the Crazy Bastard. Shine on you crazy diamond.

I just care about the movie script. After we break the drought and they make a movie, the Prince will be an awesome sub-plot. Like all stock standard rag tag team made good stories, we need to bring together an eclectic group of individuals. H is a good start.

A remake of Bad News Bears, though I'm not sure Roos is suited to the Billy Bob Thornton role. Still, if we can give him a drinking problem, he might do.

Mighty Ducks style?

Sure why not. It'd make a great double header with the Essendon Drug Scandal mini-series.

just watched heritiers speech.
I think his message might have been misinterpreted by many.

He was talking about how times are changing and how he felt he and the club had made good decisions and developed good morals in this changing community etc.
I think the translation of his name part was just suggesting he believed that his morals were sound and not necessarily having the last laugh as opposed to Collingwood fc getting the last laugh.

I thought he meant he and those that shared the same morals and doing what is right, would have the last laugh as opposed to those that are perhaps racist, sexest, or generally discriminating getting the last laugh.

that was my take anyway.

If it wasn't something like that then it doesn't make much sense.

Funny how the media has picked up on the strange behaviour of The Prince. The Prince may know how to play the game (AFL), but questions have been asked about his behaviour by the experts. Maybe the Nay Sayers have a point. There is much more to this game than game day!

If he helps us tear the Pies a new one on Queens Birthday he can celebrate with a highland jig in his nude suit while espousing the virtues of abstinence for all I care.

Rumour has it the MFC is becoming a football club again.

I don't mind too much.

perhaps he sees himself as needing to play a role in helping others, I don't know, he did say it was the definition of his name - of which originates from the republic on congo and was his birth name.
If thats the definition of his name then so be it, we can't choose our names, defining it is somewhat odd in our culture, but he's clearly very proud of his name - which is the same name of a previous congolese president (1961) that played a major role in the rep of congo gaining independence and was later assassinated.

So it is an important name and one to be proud of.

I don't know if he is related to pretice lumumba, however i suspect the name plays a role in his outspoken nature.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
