Any idea why the club would have held off..?

Maybe so that Adelaide could announce the sacking of their coach first? It certainly enhances our position going into the trade period, not only for people like Dangerfield but also others from Adelaide or Essendon, GWS etc. I wonder who Adelaide have up their sleeve? Ron Barassi?

Well it looks like PartyBoy will live to write another day.

Irrelevant now, but it wouldn't have been announced today had it not been for the Adelaide AND impending Gold Coast Fiasco.

You have just his legendary status at demonland, enjoy the responses.

What's happening at the GCS?

Better work out or it will be then end of us.

I've heard that one before. Usually before we do stuff that that doesn't work out

I didnt think he looked nervous - I thought he looked measured and calm. Two things you probably wouldnt have said about some of our previous coaches. This appointment also gives time to Viney and co to rebuild our list properly.

A mate tells me that Goodwin is as close to Jnr MacDonald a player could be without actually being Jnr MacDonald.

Im happy. Now we need a list.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean he can't coach. TBH, I'm pretty happy about this. If Roos and PJ are happy, I am. But the way he was stumbling over words, suggests to me he was pretty nervous. : ) Each to their own.

Could be a handy link if we're thinking of luring any want-away bombers.

In fact, he'd have some pretty good intel into which ones were susceptible to being lured away.

Just a thought.

Wouldn't sneeze at Carlisle.

Leroy Jetta, anyone?

Kidding!

I'd take Leroy if they threw in Carlisle as a sweetener, probably.

Neeld had poor oratory skills. This guy aint that much better.

Roos and Jeans are/were A grade.

I hope his footy brain, and communication ability, and stake-holder massaging ability is better than his oratory skills.

I must admit I have never liked the successor obsession given the chances a Ross Lyon or Alistair Clarkson will be available in 2 years time when Roos is done, but good luck to Simon.

If nothing else I am happy that Tyson, Salem, Viney, Toumpas and perhaps Petracca or Brayshaw will be working with a coach who was an elite midfielder himself and isn't too long out of the game. They're not going to be learning their craft from a half back flanker.

Fingers crossed Goodwin has an exceptional relationship with Carlisle and might be able to get in his ear as well.

Want to retract this one now, mate? Haha!

yeah I've copped my deserved fair whack!!

But from //www.afl.com.au/news/2014-09-18/goodwin-joins-the-demons

Goodwin admitted there was some part of him that flirted with the idea of returning to the Crows.
"Of course it does (cross you mind). The Adelaide footy club is a big part of my life, but coaching's a completely different caper and I'm really settled in Melbourne," he said,

"and after reading Demonland I was convinced coaching melbourne is the only right thing to do" (redacted)

Really? I thought Goodwin was primarily a half back flanker. (No, that's not rhyming slang).

I've always been a fan of the principle of succession planning. The execution is as important as the principle, though. Collingwood's succession plan wasn't handled well due to Malthouse's unwillingness to move on.

I hope we also see something similar occur with the CEO's position, although it doesn't have to be pursued as publicly as the coach succession process.

Don't mind a backman as coach.

Backmen as recent premiership coaches: Sheedy, Malthouse, Roos, Clarkson, C Scott. Worsfold. Any others?

Good pedigree being a backman-turned-coach

I agree, although Clarkson spent the majority of his career as a midfielder. But it bodes well for Goodwin's appointment at any rate.

It is hard to get particularly excited about this appointment when I and many others were hoping Roos would decide to stay on and take us to that elusive 13th flag.

But one thing that strikes me is that although its easy to think that Goodwin's involvement in the Essendrug saga leaves his a bit tainted, I think it also means he is at least better prepared to deal with the alleged psychology issues at Melbourne, given that despite all that went down the Bombers still managed to make the finals last year (only to be disqualified) and weren't too far off the mark this year. Given the wraps that Goodwins seems to be getting as a very personable bloke, surely he must have played a role in keeping the players focused as best they could.

The guy who predicted Roos to Dees, Tony Sheahan, just said on twitter that Goodwin to Crows is a done deal?

He's batting now at 50% average

!

Ricciuto is calling the shots, Goodwin is the new Crows coach you can back that one in.

They couldn't afford to let him go to Melbourne, he's a favourite son like Buckley.

Glad I didn't!

haha this shows up the real kinda guy Goodwin is ....

no loss here!!!!

Used us as bait to get the job he really was after at the crows.

Just like he texted to Dank : "Get me the good stuff"

Goodwin - Get ya good medicine and go and get stuffed you self absorbed [censored]

Turn in your membership then? Or I guess you will love him soon enough

Oh how i would love for him to sign up as Roos' successor now!

I believe it is a great get. Huge bomber fans of mine said he is a big loss to them. A very stabilising influence, calm in a crisis and if anyone is similar to our PRoos he is. Be thankful that we have PJ and PR in charge! Glory days ahead

Playing golf with a MFC man today. He got text while we were on 4th hole (f..ed my game after that!). He also said "Danger" is a done deal too. Will believe when I see it.

Also said that Trengove, Toumpas and early pick part of the deal. I reckon that is too much... or is it?

Early pick + Toump should suffice.

I would like to keep trengove especially now he will be injury free hopefully and ready to start preseason.

I would personally be really disappointing to lose Trengove, even if he doesn't become a gun like we hoped he could still be a very valuable contributor to the 22 and I'll never forget the faith he showed after the 186 debacle

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
