I just hate free agency.

If a player is out of contract and a deal cant be done then he can nominate for the draft. Luke Ball did it .Steven of Port Adelaide did it.

That's free enough for me. It puts the onus on the club to do a deal or they get nothing and it puts the onus on the club of choice to co-operate or they miss out on the player.

We'll get what we get. Not going to lose sleep over it Red

I understand you won't lose sleep, but you said you don't care what we get, I do.

They still have to work within rules and the watchful eye of the players association. And can be hamstrung by team dynamics like having buggerall in the stable.

bs,, they can pick who they like

Posted

the selectors can do as they please, they aren't answerable to Fair Work Australia

my only issue is this.

Do I think Frawley will go. I am almost 100% certain but I stress almost.

The same way that Collingwood supporters were almost 100% certain that Cloke was gone.

So unless he comes to the club and says I am gone then you cannot be 100% certain. If they want him to go but are uncertain if he is actually committed to going - then drop him- you can then absolutely guarantee he will go.

I reflect that when Watts contract situation became protracted there were some on here also saying he was gone and should be dropped. ( maybe if we had our time over again....)

Surely he'll get in the ballpark of 600K for 4+ years, that will get us the deserved band 1 compo

Mate, Red, Ive got over really worrying too much , or placing too much emphasis on things I CANT CHANGE.

We finish last, 17th..dont care. We get X or Y for him or the other. We get a PP or not.

Theres an old Yiddish maxim ..along the line, It isnt how you make it, its how you spend it. In that vein we've been woeful in the most part. Instead of worrying over this pp or that, this compo or that . I just want to see the club refocus on footballers and not elite-potentials. We can get them no matter what we have if we are both bodacious in our shopping as well as , in that great footy -ism, lower our eyes and get about building an OK team before we try to steal the cream.

Yeah, it'll be nice to have lots of early picks but I cant see the current landscape coughing that. I cant change it, im not worrying, and therefore I have no care..

I hear a lot of people saying they want to get the club on firmer ground and leave better than they came ...blah blah blah...and they wont commit to any meaningful time period.

The AFL has 'rules' many of which are made of rubber and appear or not under stealth according to political whim.

After following the Dees for 50 odd years why should I care too much. We'll get what we're given and hopefully we dont fukk it up again. Dont expect me to care much more.

Fair enough I owe you another dim sim for your suffering. Wongs after the season ends for us in 10 days. Make that a banana fritter, it has been pretty bad being an MFC fan.

I agree with a large part of that bb.

The alternative is you give up and play bowls.

Nutbean - that is not free. Ball should have been taken by us at 18 in that draft and we probably would have had Free Agency sooner.

Is Chip gone??? No

Has a all Aust full back played in that position all year.........No

Is he a full forward?........No he is played there because we have no other key forwards because of Clarke and Hogan went down

Have the midfield got the confidence to kick to him and Dawes ......No

Has he the confidence to lead and expect a pass onto his chest......No

I tell you what.......I would not like to play in our forward line at the moment....It takes two hours for our mids to get it in there and when they do it's 5 or 6 to one

He is a good player when played in his position....He has proved that.

Don't you think that clubs are wary of picking players who adamantly say that they won't play for you ?

I could never understand how that was not Draft tampering which is against the rules.

The only factors that matter in deciding compensation are age and salary. Frawley will be 26 next month and wants about $700,000 a year.

Yep, so why are you writing an article about his form which has nothing to do with it????

The point is that his form might not dictate his asking salary, which would bring the compensation down.

Posted

This is just a story to sell papers.

Frawley will get the contract required for Band 1 Compensation because clubs are always willing to pay a premium for players above their actual worth when they don't have to trade players/picks. And the AFL will massage the situation if he doesn't qualify.

It is tampering, and we should have picked him at 18.

If he didn't come (whatever) he can sit out footy for two years.

Yep. I argued that with Rhino for over 12 months.

Players like Ball would have made a huge difference to the insipd culture of this club.

But we sat back as usual. Let the Filth put the boot in.

Where is Rhino??

Fix free agency.

1 A bottom 4 side cannot lose a player to a top 4 side.

2 When a top 4 side loses a player to a bottom 4 side the player gets a COLA from the AFL. (Cost Of Losing Allowance)

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
