Nick Malceski

Are you seriously going to right him off after 2 bad kicks in one game? You obviously haven't been paying much attention to him in any other games. One of the best rebounding half backs in the AFL.

In the first 15 minutes tonight,he's kicked one out on the full and one out of bounds!!!

We have Jack Grimes for that, let's save some coin

So you had to start a new thread and then basically base one game that he has had a couple of turner overs when he is in career and All Australian form

Classy.

Some said similar about Vince...

And Cross.

Yep, and that's probably enough. If he comes cheap then that's another matter.

Think Roos has the best history in the game of making right choices come trade time. Happy to go with his instincts.

Agree, Roos identified we needed someone who could use the ball well off half back. He will have someone in mind and it may not be Malceski.

Malceski is one of the best kicks in the comp.

Jack Grimes is one of the worst kicks in the comp.

If we could get Malceski for a few years, we'd be a FAR better side.

But we'd have to organise a trade.

Certainly would be an asset, worth picking up but

  • not for to much money at the back end of any two/three year deal or
  • in the event of chip leaving diluting any compensation pick.

If the deal can be done to avoid this, we will have plenty of room in the cap next year so a front ended contract may get a deal done. It's a YES from me however once again in the footy department I trust so I'm sure they know exactly what they need and who they want/will target

2 is enough?

We are very young still - and Cross has only 2015 left in my opinion.

This group could use some older heads and strong bodies (and good left foots...).

there is room for him, i would think byrnes is gone, so that's room for another older player, but if james goes then knowing how the AFL don't give as good compo they would say nick for james far swap, So he is not worth a first round pick.

It's probably enough to bring in now. We will have Jamar at 31, Dunn & Pedersen 28, Jones & Jones, Garland and Dawes 27. Add to that Cross & Vince and we are looking at an ageing list not a young developing list.

We desperately need to bring in young talent from the draft and trades now. I would spend nothing on an over 25 at this time, if one more drops in our lap like Cross I would consider it. If we don't do this we will be consigned to nothing more than a middle to lower rung side for a while.

We need to bring in talent full stop.

Would I spend a top 10 pick on a 26+ year old? Probably not.

But would I do another Vince trade with a second round pick?

Yes please!

2nd round pick? Yes he has been good but not a second round draft pick.

He will be 31 next year. Unlike Vince who is 28 and still have 3 years left. Go for a talented kid. Backs Paul Roos development otherwise once once all Cross Vince Malceski retire we will have no talent to replace the.

So 'another Vince trade' probably wouldn't involve Malceski?

Then maybe you can assume I didn't mean Malceski?

rjay and I were discussing how many experienced players we have or need to bring in - he believes spending picks on older players is fraught, I agree but finding another Vince type would be fantastic - we need talent.

A definite yes in my books.
I have lost count of the number of times this year where we have been setting up off half back and have found an open player streaming through the centre of the ground only to stuff the kick up which then allows the opposition to regroup and keep the ball in their fifty.

People want massive clean outs and new faces to replace them but when the time comes to do so, the players we want to recruit are all has beens (to be fair, some were) and we should give the hacks we whinge about another year so we can be certain they are no good. It just seems that the recruiting policy is have a crap year, delist our whipping boys and replace them with green kids who then become our whipping boys 3 years later then the process is repeated again. To make ourselves feel better, we talk about how players like Malceski, Vince and Cross won't be part of our next premiership side. All the while, our club falls to pieces in front of our eyes and we complain about how we lack leadership and experienced bodies.

He's a good chance to be All Australian, and exactly the type of player we need, not only is he a linebreaking highly skilled half back, he's a genuine leader, two time premiership player, coming from the swans culture who has played under Roos, he'd move into the role seamlessly

it's an absolute no brainer from my point of view

He's exactly the type of player we need except he needs to be 5 to 8 years younger. Can we find one of those?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
