Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

IDK why JKH is being promoted as a possible replacement. He was hardly influential at Bendigo despite the possession count. Did a few nice things but went missing in the last quarter. I think he needs to bulk up a bit to be able to use his talents at AFL level.

I have a theory about the Casey reports. I reckon they are written after they decide who will be selected. I watch the reserves live and MFC on the Telly. The writers would have a field day with the AFL guys if they applied the same KPIs and to be honest I don't see that much of a difference. Having said that the TV does not give the same perspective as watching the game live and I do like to be above the ground level. Before you ask I prefer the two because the current AFL game is little better than Rugby Union which is the equivalent to me of watching an under 12s game of footy. Everybody at the ball.

I have another view on the "defensive" comments in the Casey games. The MFC/Casey guys get the ball forward but its turned over so many times that the opposition clearly anticipate and set up away from the contest so that the Casey guys are often out of position through poor up field work. Alison wasn't at Bendigo so the read will be interesting this week. For what its worth I think Blease must be given a shot this week, he has been very consistent.

25 Possessions and 87 hit outs from Maxxy is hard to ignore, even given his previous weeks form. Hard to imagine how he could do much more to force his way back in. Maybe its time to be patient with him as we have with others.

I'll continue to push for JKH to return to the side as he makes us a better team, notwithstanding that he's not doing as well at Casey as he should. Yes, that goes against what Roos has been doing all year which probably suggests it won't happen, but I want to see us make changes to make us better, and you can't tell me that JKH over Terlich isn't an improvement right now.

I think Tapscott will hold his spot, I don't see the point of playing him last week if we're going to judge him that quickly.

IMO Gawny stays out despite the 87 hit outs, Ports strength are they are very mobile and whilst their defence has been very shaky without Carlisle and Trengove I think with Dawes, Frawley and Pedersen as our tall/marking forwards we can cause them problems. A few good weeks of Blease showing form and finally a FD making them earn their spots. Michie may be considered as we are missing Cross and need to add to our midfield rotations because some of our boys need the break.

Garland Dunn Jetta

Howe Tmac Grimes

Blease Tyson Vince

Watts Frawley Kent

Bail Dawes Pedersen

Jamar NJones Viney

Tapscott, Riley, Michie & MJones Tappy more than likely the sub, Pedersen to pinch hit in the ruck when Jamar needs a rest in the forward line.

Outs: Mckenzie & Terlich

Not sure about Maxxy, even though he had 87 hit outs Brad Miller said he wasn't dominant as in his hit outs weren't too advantage. Maxxy looks good as the number one ruckman because he can make his way around the ground and collect disposals and contested possessions. In the forward line he's still a liability... Not quick off the lead, doesn't chase hard to keep forward line pressure and isn't taking contested marks either. I think he needs a lot more development before he can take the mantle as no.1 ruckman.

Brad Miller wrote the comments, not Allison.

You have a problem with the defensive comments. Is that because you don't notice it, and then get shocked that the game you saw and the one they saw appear to be different? I can't see why they would bother trying to make false comments about players in the VFL - that just sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory to justify why your favourite player/s get crap reviews.

The defensive side of the game is super important, especially if you want to be a good team. Good team players don't complain about defence or make excuses as to why they can't do it, they just do it. Each player is also given a role to play and the only people who know that role are the players and coaches.

I am backing their views on what is expected of players.

Don't know where you get that I am shocked that I have a differing opinion to that of the reviewers, they would know what the roles were for each player. I was merely saying that the "defense" failures are trotted out often with no real definition and absolutely no recognition that the Casey team is particularly adept at turning the ball over which more often than not is anticipated by the opposition who have transitioned into offence when the Casey players do indeed turn it over. Also happens in the seniors

Don,t know any players so i really do not understand your point about complaining and or making excuses. I certainly did not infer that in my post.

I actually find Brad Millers reviews far more informative than Brett Alison's. I think you will find I have been just as critical in the past and after the Box Hill Game thought no one from Casey should have been promoted. Also the Ballarat game. I just happen to think that the reviews are tailored to the selection. But that is my opinion based on what I have seen live at the game.

The defence comments are actually quite detailed. Look at the difference between the comments for Strauss (concentration), Georgiou (wrestling technique), Michie (defensive transition), Nicholson (letting his opponent lead him to the ball) and Evans (positioning, in previous weeks). They relate to different things. Turning the ball over doesn't stop people playing their role.

Have you thought that maybe selection is tailored to the reviews?

although Gawn had the 80 hit outs, it was against bendigo gold.

jimmy magner and tom couch notched something like 48 possessions against bendigo gold last year and couldn't get another run in the seniors.

not a great comparison between players by any means, but the opposition remains the same.

jamar might have had 100 hit outs had he played.

Roos needs to give a few players who are on the cusp of being cut a chance to play for their spots so you may see slightly more changes than usual. I would like to see fitzpatrick at FF and dawes at CF. he can also help out in the ruck when needed. Blease in, Fitzy in, clisby in. Out Mckenzie, tappy, Terlich

Ports weakness in Talls down back. Richmond did it beautifully on Sunday and exploited it. 17 marks to 5 inside 50. moved it quick, put them under pressure.

Blease Frawley Watts

Kent Dawes Pederson

ins: Blease

Out: Bail.

I think that Melbourne have been a worse team and look less likely to score since JKH was the sub against Collingwood. Maybe it is pure coincidence but I really think he adds a whole lot to the side and is a must to come in.

I agree, but am mindful of Roos stating that the MFC must not rely on kids. I do wonder about whether Roos is happy to see kids develop the right way and not just use them for what they are immediately good at. Just a thought.

No doubt, but I would like to see Melbourne kick more than five goals per game at the same time.

Although i think JKH is a bit out of his depth at this stage.

We need a young smart alec who just runs like the wind{garlett carlton}and tries to kick the impossible.

So JKH would suit my team at this stage

JKH is one of the few Melbourne players in the past decade who constantly runs and is always moving to provide an option, that's what I love about him.

I believe Michie, Kennedy-Harris, Blease and Clisby are all possibilities for this week although we won't have four changes.

Personally I'd like to see Clisby back in the firsts and it sounds as though he hasn't done much wrong for Casey. Surely Blease has earned his call up.

at this time of the year and given our state of the list and no finals prospects, coaches tend to look at list management issues more-so than maybe picking the best 22.

by list management here i mean genuine list management and not tanking-type list management

in all likelihood there will be big list changes so last-chance games will be offered and younger players rested

i think team selections here on in will increasingly reflect this, except maybe for the two obvious winnable games

expect to see some debatable selections

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
