Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lingy has just confirmed on Sat night footy he has met with Roos and the leadership group. He wanted to get an idea on how and where the club is heading.

He said the club is on track, but has not decided if he will go in to coaching. It has Roos circa 2013 written all over it.

It should be the other way around. Ling should be begging us to to get the gig. We should be seeing where Ling is heading in the future. He should not be interviewing us. With Roos at the helm Ling would be stupid not to learn under him. Don't inflate your ego too much Cameron you know bugger all about being a head coach at the moment.

Or the leadership group were getting a vibe of where Ling is at and could then sit down and discuss whether he is someone they would be happy to play under. I'm sure they will get a say, even if it's small, as the club will want them united and ready to play under whoever they choose, and if it's someone they already approve of and look forward to working with then it can only help us.

Lingy didn't say he was interviewing the club, he said he a chat with some parties. Nothing wrong by going in and having a look to see if the club was going in the right direction. It's Been 50 years of the MFC going in the wrong direction. As Neeld said, you only get one chance at this coaching caper (in most cases). I would want to know that the management, admin and FD were going places.

lingo also spoke to PJ. He was confident in the club direction

Seems like it's progressed beyond the 'informal chat' then.

Yeah you are right. It just bugs me a bit that we as a club seem to have to roll out the red carpet for potential coaches and bull sh!t them into thinking if they come along for the ride they will be bound in glory. I can't complain that process landed us Roos but he and his record were proof that he was worth it. With Ling i'm not so sure as he is just as untried and has less experience then Neeld.

My guess is that it will be Ling. Roos will coach for another two years, then move into the "Director of Coaching" or whatever it's called for another 3. Somewhat similar to Eddie's original succession plan with Bucks/Mick, except this time it will work.

Well the major difference is that the incumbent coach is the one calling the shots on handing over the reigns whereas Eddies was so paranoid that his love child was going to coach somewhere else that he forced Malthouse into that scenario. I would love it if Roos had his own option for an extra year if he saw fit.

I definitely see a minimum of two years after this year and Lingy meeting the leadership group does lead you to think he's almost across the line.

I would say Lingy is on a short list at the moment. No guarantee! He will have to compete with around 4 others.

I have no idea who is his competition, but if the club has made up their mind before exploring all options. This reeks of Neeld. Ling is the media's choice (as was Neeld). Hopefully the club is not reading trash not worthy of fish and chip wrapping.

C,Mom Dees, let's see past the players management PR and get it right. If that's Lingy, great. Just get it right

I'd say Kirk is another on the list.

He's in demand from multiple clubs. Doesn't that give him the right to say such things? I don't think it was condescending.

I hope so, & I hope its More than that. director of coaching

I hope for a directorship of football, or similar. That would oversee the whole football environment at Melbourne.

IMO we need his personal touch, over all our grassroots areas, from the players & coaching, to our supporter base, & our regional approach, for our clubs supporter development.

Yes I'd prefer Roos for as long as possible, at least another 2 or 3 years.

Of the potential successors, I find Lingy very intelligent with excellent and cool people skills, so put him way out front. 2 or 3 years learning under Roos and he could be ready to take over, especially with Roos still on board to help him.

Also it sounds as though he's fairly successful in business around Geelong, so I doubt his family would go for his taking a pay cut from media work for many years (to be assistant coach) before getting the head coach job

Brett Kirk just said on Game Day that he wont be going anyway. He has a 3 year contract which ends next year.

Yeah, he didnt say definitively "I won't leave" but he did say he was contracted for next year, and the vibe you always get from him is that he is such a clear, honest, straight-shooting guy and wouldn't say that if he didnt mean it.

It was enough for me to put a line through Kirk's name.

Literally just got a message from someone who usually knows these things saying that Kirk has re-committed to Freo.

Ling it is I guess...

Pretty damn good consolation prize, you'd think hope. Edited by Machsy

Ling??? Not that sure on this one. He is obvioulsy a quality person but it beggers the question why experienced assistant coaches are not banging the doors down. I think the AFL coaching system is in a bit of a mess. There are plenty of assistants like Stone who would be outstanding but just dont want the gig. Like Neeld said you get one chance then off to the wilderness of you fail.

If we get Ling then Roos needs to hang around for at least 3 years to buy Ling the breathing space he needs.

Ling was by far the better player and it's an insult to compare the two even if it is as potential coaches.

Maxwell couldn't win a one on one against an Aus kicker.

Because that is how you judge coaches ?

By your reckoning I'm surprised that Hawthorn under Clarkson is not a perennial cellar dweller

Your raw ability ( which Ling probably had marginally more than Maxwell) is not how you judge someones coaching ability.

Their strategic thinking and their ability to motivate and teach and overall leadership skills are what makes or breaks a coach.

Maxwell is spoken about in glowing terms by all Collingwood people in the know. His captaincy, leadership and being a backline general compensated for his being a footballer with average talent.

Hearing both Ling and Maxwell speak - they do seem like similar types to me but as we have learned with Neeld and Bailey - you don't know how they will drive until you get them behind the wheel of the car !

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
