Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The Machiavellian approach to list management would be to praise heavily players you want someone to take off your hands. So, Roos's praise of Watts could be genuine or it could be a plan to increase his trade value.

(Note: I don't for one minute believe Roos's comments about Watts are anything other than genuine).

The three jacks are a failed experiment. We need to move them on. Its unfortunate but to continue with these boys is a mistake and will ensure our continuing failure as an AFL team. Ad to that Frawley, Jamar and the way Garland is going him as well. Massive clean out needed but probably wont happen. More pain to follow dees fans.

Sorry Bitter but we have to face facts. We are likely to finish bottom because of this. And the future is more of the same. Imagine what this is doing to our good players. The best Melbourne player out there in the Geelong game was Jared Rivers; WE NEED REAL FOOTBALLERS

Frosty Demon Deletions:

Trengove, Grimes, Watts, Frawley, Garland, Jamar, and ???

Do you think taking the last 5 players in the draft at 110, 111, 112, 113, and 114 will make our list better and give us REAL FOOTBALLERS?

Or do you think it's just more hot air and empty hate?

What absolute rubbish. We will not finish bottom and we should not get rid of Watts, Trengove or Garland.

What a load of rubbish. This is yet to be determined. These kids are still young and have been playing in a badly coached and side and have had to shoulder the leadership burdon way too young. There is still up side in them all.

Watts, Grimes and Trenners need time, development and on field support. there are plenty of people on the list to go before them.

What a load of rubbish, what a load of rubbish, you guys are funny. I would take picks from any where in the draft ahead of these guys. I've seen what our guys have and it isn't good enough; but that's just me. Its definitely not hot air or hate either its just my opinion. I have total respect for these guys as I believe they give everything they have got. They work their arses off, but they are not the ones who need on field support our good players do. These guys hold our team back and we will continue to struggle while they are on board.

As for finishing bottom we are only one game above he saints and we never looked like beating them in round one. do we play them again???

Read my post in the other thread - you are angry at the wrong things and your remedy wouldn't help it would only make things worse.

12 months removed from Neeld and have people learnt nothing about how to manage players and build a list?

Essentially blaming flankers and pockets for our problems - which centres around our lack of a capable midfield - is missing the point. Neeld missed it when he was giving verbals to Watts and the other 'problems' instead of trying to get us a capable midfield.

If Roos gets another Vince, Tyson, Cross and Salem, JKH in the draft - maybe we will win more games than we lose.

Getting rid of our senior players won't help us win more.

I'm not angry, a little crazy from hearing Tom Harley referring to us repeatedly as a young team.

My remedy is just to get rid of players that aren't up to it and replace them with ones that are. I said nothing about getting rid of senior players.

You are right if Roos gets more capable players in then we will be better. We do however have to get rid of those that don't produce. Those six players you mentioned earlier are some of the most unproductive players in the AFL. Keep them and we will see more of the same. Move them on and bring in better.

I think what most are trying to get across Frosty is that where is this 'better' going to come from? In some aspects I agree with your sentiments - we have a raft of players who don't produce enough for the talent they have, but they are not the players to move on. The draft, regardless of who you take, is never a sure thing and if we move on the players you mentioned we have to be CERTAIN that we are improving our list in doing so. Just going to the draft, for example, is not the answer in our case. We need quality to replace these players but to just say we can do it is naive at best and doesn't give us an answer. It's one thing to want to move them on, it's another to do it and improve the list, and I don't think we can do that right now.

Every team wants to rid their list of players that aren't up for it and replace them. It's a very easy suggestion but the answer is a lot harder. Where do all the "better" players come from? We'd need a lot of them.

And does it not follow you get the most bang for buck moving on the WORST players on the list not, not those players that get regular games in the 1s irrespective of how frustrating they can be at times? Unless of course you can trade up an NQR but that is harder to get right.

10 list changes is about the maximum and that would probably include swapping a draft pick for 2 picks (or 2 players or such like) It would also probably involve bringing in a free agent and/or an unlisted free agent or 2.

Or perhaps we could trade out a contracted player or 2 but which club or clubs would want a Roos reject? Unfortunately, just like last year, we're going to be stuck with 5 or 6 players who we ordinarily wouldn't want to keep. The reality is, we need to make the most of what we've got and keep bringing in as much talent as possible.

In any given year, the best any club can hope for is to bring in 6 good* players ... so, in the wash-up, if we "move on" and then recruit 10 players in the off season, there's a good chance that only a maximum of 6 of those 10 players will end up being good players for the club.

*A good player could be described as someone who plays for at least 7 or 8 years, is rarely if ever dropped, has 3-5 top 10 finishes in the B&F and is a big contributor to the team having predominantly winning seasons. You'd take 6 of those type of recruits in any given year in a heartbeat.

Guys you are right it isn't an easy fix. I just believe that when a player has had five or more years and isn't producing consistently he should be seriously considered for trade. We also should only bring in real footballers. There are plenty out there and with Roosys collateral he should be able to attract more. This years recruiting was good and our draft picks look promising. We have to be bold and do the same and better for next year. Unfortunately this means being bold in who we get rid of. Fortune favours the brave.

He should be at least considered before writing off blokes who haven't been on the list for 2 years yet, such as someone whose first name begins with Jimmy and last begins with Toumpas...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
