Probably should have kept the girls on. They seem to have more of a clue

And harder at the ball than some of ours. Edited by frankie_d

Oh and our midfield has been below third world today. Jamar just taps to his feet every time. It seems like he's happy getting his hands on it and that's enough. Gawn is far more creative with his tap work, but can't get his hands on it enough in the ruck. Gawn did a couple of important things in the second though.

I do not understand how players mark the ball and immediately start looking behind them or sideways instead of forward and try to move it on. Terlich is a prime example of this, he rarely moves the ball on quickly.

And Grimes a classic!Always does it.

Posted

Players seem to lack any confidence in themselves or their team mates and the skill level from top to bottom is dreadful.

I'm just baffled by the team selection. I know Roos wants to instill good habits in the seconds but we so desperately need a small crumber like JKH in there who can just get the bloody ball and run! We just aimlessly kick and handball to players under pressure then turn it over.

It's [censored] embarrassing. Blease would be useful too, a player who just gets the ball and runs through traffic. We have not one person taking the game on!

Nicholson, Terlich, Bail. If any of those 3 are best 22 next year then we are stuffed. They are depth at best and would not be on any other list in the AFL. We need to get rid of them and find quick players to replace them. We desperately need a quality half back flanker to set up play.

if they could cut out the stupid errors and mistakes they might actually look ok

Still a long way to go

Looks like Roos isn't coaching to win. He's coaching to set us up for good habits and a good culture. That explains the team selection and lack of movement during games.

We know he can coach tactically. He just seems not so concerned by the end result.

They just showed some highlights from the womens' game on Foxtel... wow!! Perhaps Roos should be showing the players that footage at the break; completely fearless attack on the ball.

Chris Dawes is the least of our problems. He brings the ball to ground and applies fantastic forward pressure. Sure I'd love him to take more marks, but that's not necessarily his role in our team. What we should have is another crumber in the forward line though.

Posted

At least Roos is getting a reality check of where this team is really at, unlike teams like Richmond and Carlton who grossly overestimated the quality of their players. We're surely on track for a bottom 3 finish alongside the Saints and Richmond (will tank).

Posted

During the break Drew Morphett on 774 just asked the question of the year....."Do you think the Melbourne players are enjoying playing their footy more under Paul Roos than Mark Neeld?"

and yes he was serious.....

I can live without all these reality checks !!!

Jack Grimes kicks a ripper goal to put us back in it despite everything. Is he the most maligned captain in the AFL? I think so.

Make that four. They know we're coming and we'll do whatever it takes so can you smell what the Dees are cooking?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
