I remember when young Mitchell "agreed" to accept the father-son nomination from Sydney. Was said then that he signed a longer than standard deal for around a million. Ridiculous and must puzzle the guys recruited via the draft . Like Zac jones. Good luck to the kid, but$400,000 a year is more than plenty of decent regular senior players get. Can't see him shifting unless swans decide to trade and offer to pay some of his wages.

Will be interested to follow his career, but can't see him at Melbourne on that kind of dosh.

Young Sydney Swan, Tom Mitchell (age 21) was recruited under the father/son rule (pick 21 in 2011) and has shown promise but injuries and the Swans' enormous midfield depth have held him back.

He had a number of injuries in his first season at the club and didn't make his debut until almost halfway through his second year (Round 10, 2013 v Essendon) but he was good enough to get an AFL Rising Star nomination for his performance against Adelaide - his second AFL game.

This year has also been injury interrupted but in a Round 9 NEAFL game for the Swans reserves, Mitchell picked up a world record 64 disposals (23 contested and 41 uncontested) four goals.

He must be looked at, surely?

He can certainly find the footy. Just a question. Is he a little bit too one-paced? In a side crying out for players who can break the lines would you be giving up the kitchen sink for him?

Posted

Don't we need players who can get the footy?

Given that we know he can get his hands on the ball, surely the big question is can he stay healthy and what's his disposal and decision making like?

Posted

I rate him on par with Jack viney, would love him at mfc

My only issue re Tom is that I reckon it's time to target bigger bodied mids.

I just don't understand Sydney's salary cap at all. They've got a guy not even getting games on 400k?? Staggering.

Reading the Swans supporters on BF there's no way this kid is leaving. He's signed until end of 2016, he would have cracked the seniors by now but for injury and the week he racked up 67 touches or whatever it was in the NEAFL Sydney beat Geelong by 110 points so they couldn't really drop anyone. I don't see anyway we get this kid, retirements of Goodes and O'Keefe plus Malceski leaving will free up some cap space - potentially we could force out another of their guys like Bird or someone but I don't think the Swans would let Mitchell walk. They see him as an integral part of their future.

Mitchell would be in our top 5 players.

The kid is just a superstar, I'd gladly part with a first rounder - but that wouldn't nearly get it done.

I agree. His value just went up as well with his performance against Richmond. 29 disposals, 8 marks, 13 tackles and 138 dream team points (second highest on ground).

What would we need to part with for Sydney to consider a trade?

Would happily part with Frawley compo, assuming it's pick 3, if Malceski came in the deal.

The left nut.

I think Malceski is more likely to go PSD if he comes to us. Otherwise he can go as a FA to another club or stay a Swan.

I think we would want a Tyson/Salem type deal where get a player and a slightly lower pick than we give.

He got dropped for a 29 disposal 13 tackle game?! He was there best player! He finally got given an opportunity, absolutely killed it, showed up more senior non-performing players... but gets dropped.

Hopefully he is livid at being treated so poorly and we can steal him. He'd be top of the list for every club if he is available. 21 year old who averages 24 touches and 7 tackles a game. He'll be an All Australian midfielder at some stage in his career.

has to be something more at work here.

very surprised to see him dropped - he played a cracker.

Is there something not public knowledge? I've heard he's an agro boozehound.

;);)

Just goes to show what a strong team they have to be able to drop a player after such a performance.

Bastards.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
