  1. I reckon it's a pass so far but agree with hogan about how with 5 games to go there's still time for some improvement or utter despair. We were given a relatively soft early fixture. Also I agree with whoever said we were dreadful against collingwood. That was one of our worst performances of the year. And while there were a couple of games we maybe should have won, I think we should be honest about the essendon win. That was ridiculously lucky. Should have been 60 pts down early. Somehow conjured a wonderful win after playing shite for most of the game.
  2. If the kicker-in stands and surveys options and then kicks out from the front of the goal square he receives no 'kick' stat. If he kicks to himself and then hurriedly kicks to the same position he is credited with a 'kick'. I'm not denying the good sense in playing in some circumstances, but several guys at casey do this virtually every single time, and frequently only succeed in putting themselves under pressure. And yes Dunnie is sometimes guilty of this too. I presume you're correct that astute judges take this into consideration when assessing performance. Still can make quite a difference to interpretation of stats if the same guy does it every kick in. Can turn a 20 possession game into a 35 possession blinder!
  3. Lower scoring is a competition wide trend. Thanks for the historical data. As others have said, we've benefitted from our focus on defence. Most of the guys down back have been pretty solid all year. Our conservative approach to attacking the goals is often frustrating to watch, but can't deny it's kept us in several games and allowed a couple of surprising comebacks. Sundays game was only the most recent example.
  4. I remember when young Mitchell "agreed" to accept the father-son nomination from Sydney. Was said then that he signed a longer than standard deal for around a million. Ridiculous and must puzzle the guys recruited via the draft . Like Zac jones. Good luck to the kid, but$400,000 a year is more than plenty of decent regular senior players get. Can't see him shifting unless swans decide to trade and offer to pay some of his wages. Will be interested to follow his career, but can't see him at Melbourne on that kind of dosh.
  5. Disposal count reflects the ridiculous stats padding that occurred in this game. Three guys chipped between each other 6 times shifting the ball from the half forward line right back to the defensive 50. Also as has become customary at casey kick ins the kicker in always kicks to himself and then launches a mad rushed bomb down the line. This happens a lot at afl level too and it's one of the reason dunn's disposal stat has increased so much this season. Not saying he hasn't had a great year. I've become convinced that this tactic wouldn't occur nearly as much if the kicker in didn't get credited with a kick for their trouble. Anyhow casey should have won this game. They Lost because the defenders were hopelessly isolated in the last 10 minutes.
  6. No-one without proper coaching credentials should be considered. It's ridiculous how some make judgements based on being impressed by some random reflections about the game made during a TV broadcast. We need someone with lots of experience, preferably at more than one club. And not necessarily assistants from premiership clubs. Might be even better to try an experienced assistant who's resume includes a stint or two at another struggling club.

  8. Watts has maybe the best skill set in the squad and potentially could be our best player.......it's just as so many experts and supporters have noted, he just doesn't have the drive. I recall seeing much better players than watts dropped to the twos - both montagna & dal santo were dropped within a year or 2 of playing in a series of big finals. Playing a few games in the twos might cause jack to reflect on how lucky he is to be paid big dollars for such limited performances.
  9. I can't believe others can''t see the vfl reviews are written after they've decided if they'll make any changes. I predict quite a few changes this week. Blease is a certainty IMO. Hope he goes ok. Hard to see him going worse than terls.

  11. So it's all bail & m.jones's fault that watts isn't the player we'd like him to be.? Pleased we've cleared that up. Funny I didn't notice them in the vicinity when jack made those 2 pathetic tackling efforts early on Saturday. I like jack, but maybe he'd be a better player if his defensive efforts were judged similarly to the others on the list. I reckon watts has probably the best skills on the list, but IMO he'll only improve when he's made to truly earn his spot in the 22.

  13. The point I'm attempting to make is how his apparent lack of interest in viewing the Melbourne listed players at casey, doesn't help the development of a strong club culture. And i think that's a valuable asset that can be improved even when on-field results aren't pleasing. I'm reasonably confident a few of the senior guys might make a bit more of an effort to go along and support their team-mates if they thought the coach might show up! There were plenty of collingwood guys out at casey when they played the scorpians. Saw the pies captain that day. It's just a little thing, but combined with the decision to publish sometimes scathing reviews on the Melbourne webpage while at the same time jumping in to defend any senior player singled out for criticism just seems like double standards to me. Roos talks the talk about the guys being scarred and needing a bit of nurturing, but in this instance doesn't walk the walk. He's achieved great outcomes with jettta and pedo, but reckon he could maybe do a bit better in this instance.
  14. Such a disappointing performance, but really we've been playing poorly for many weeks. The essendon win, wonderful as it was, was a cruel tease. Any rational observer would know we were lucky to not be 10 goals down early. The earlier performance vs collingwood was abysmal. Yet we only lost by 30 odd points that day. More telling was the 3 goals we managed that day. Paul Roos has some decent coaching credentials, but fans are entitled to question his approach to management of his entire squad. He has allowed a 2 tiered approach to player management to develop. His total abandonment of the guys at casey is revealing. He hasn't attended a casey game all year. He allows the guys down there to be critiqued in a public and savage way, and having watched a single recording of an abc broadcast offers an opinion those guys are atrocious. At the same time he leaps to public defend the failings of guys like jack watts. Apparently it wasn't Jack's fault he was shite yesterday, it was the fault of the other guys. There are many guys in the senior team who are being gifted games and presumably aren't any better at "defensive transition" than the casey guys like blease and the others and if they are, how come we have been belted most of the last 10 weeks. I reckon we've got too many guys who feel they are way too safe in the senior team. Of course there'll be some weeks when it's not practical for coaches etc to watch the twos, but having watched at least 4 casey games during the year I find it interesting the number of senior coaches and senior players there to support their club mates at Carlton, box hill, Richmond collingwood even bloody nth Ballarat. Spoke to a box hill family and they said Clarkson sometimes even stays and watches box hill and travels on a later flight to coach hawthorn. At casey games I've seen Byrnes and max gawn a couple of times and that's it. I note rookie rookie harmes was listed as casey's best yesterday and even Strauss got a mention. Shame the Melbourne head of development wasn't there to see it! Still, since I guess he was at the MCG I'm looking forward to Brett Allison's internet musings on the 22 guys who ran out in melbourne jumpers. What day will it be on the Melbourne web page?
