After today thevSwans won't be letting this kid go. In fact Horse is probably lamenting he didn't go with an extra running player or two. Reid was a waste of space, they had Buddy, Tippett, Goodes but they were smashed around the ball so it didn't matter who you had up forward.

I don't know about that. The Swans looked awfully slow today which is a big reason why Mitchell isn't getting a game.

Agree, Swans looked slow. They will be so keen to add genuine leg speed that you can see some bundling of players eg Mitchell, Reid, Membrey to address that glaring need.

Wouldn't touch Reid. Looks soft & quite disinterested.

Blease for a second round pick?

(relax, it's the silly season)

They might go for Dangerfield considering they don't have a salary cap it's not out of the question.

there was a pretty strong rumour that they would sign another star after moving some players on and freeing up some more salary cap room.

Jetta, Rohan... They have leg speed, they just played like spuds.

Reid is hopeless, want nothing to do with him!

I think Mitchell is probably more likely to leave after Saturday. He is on massive dollars to be a fringe player and, even if he does become a regular next year, he would only be replacing a similar type, not adding somtheing different to the mix.

They have invested too much in Jetta and Rohan to let them go, but Rohan in particular is a very ordinary footballer.

I would also not be suprised to see Reid on the trade table - the Swans will be keen to bring in a decent ruckman, so a trade with the Dogs might be of interest to them.

Swans loss was not the forwards fault, it was the midfields. In particular it was in the ruck that they were smashed. Hawthorn mostly had first use of the ball. On the odd occasion that Sydney did win the clearance it usually ended with a set shot on goal. Sydney will try and address its ruck situation. They lost Mumford to get Buddy, they now need to replace Mumford with another decent ruck to win the Premiership...... they will go all out. I think their midfield can match Hawthorns but not without a ruckman winning their fair share of taps to advantage.

Would it be a good time to make a play for Reid on account of today? I reckon he is good, but can't play where he plays best with Tippett and Buddy in the team.

Reid played a shocker in the GF. On that form alone you would say no.

Well it reads well but in fact Pyke won the ruck duels and Swans did ok in centre clearances. I do agree however that Swans gave away a lot in letting Mumford go but would they play another ruckman in the side with Tippett already in the side?

I think we should make a real pitch for Malcevski. Really can play and brings character and leadership to the table

With Chip gone and a likely pick 3, or possibly ~pick 10 we will not go for Malcevski. It will counter our FA compensation, thus we would lose this early pick.

No problems we trade for him pick 98.

Can a FA choose to be traded to his club of choice rather than simply aquired?

Yes, Port traded in two players (Shultz and ?) in 2012 to protect their FA picks...they ended up getting two 2nd round picks for their 'exports' which were very valuable as they were way down the ladder. These imports/picks really helped their climb up the ladder in 2013/4.

They really understood how to work the system. We diluted our Moloney/Rivers picks by getting Byrnes.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
