Went to training this morning

Jesse Hogan trained, put that bit in Jesse Hogan injury update topic

Max King returned to full training

Mitch Clisby still looks a bit restricted

Shannon Byrnes did the whole session

No sign of Roh Bail

Jamar, Garland, Vince and later Dawes did a lighter session, including a ridiculous handball competition with about 6 balls in the air at one time

Roos gathered group together and spoke for a couple of minutes, asked one of the staff what was said, it was along the lines of yes it was a win, but no it wasn't a 120 minute performance, which you need if you want to play finals, they need to remember where they are at, the Kangaroos present yet another great challenge and the team needs to 'perform' for 120 minutes

Asked a few about Sunday, Roos was pretty calm at half time, tinkered with the match ups, made mention of the 'misplaced' effort, left it to the players, who made a pact that they had served up rubbish to the supporters again, and in the second half that was going to stop, and they were going to win

Towards end of session they split the group into AFL and Casey, Riley went with the Casey group, whether that means anything this early in the week, they did more handballing and kicking drills whilst the AFL group kicked for goal, so maybe it was just fitness.

Cam Pedersen reckons he was trying to kick to Jack Watts with that great long goal

Myself and Christian Salem reckon the World Cup is now wide open, due to the results up to now, we both thought Van Persie's headed goal would take a 'wonder goal' to beat it as goal of the tournament, and he would have looked ridiculous if he had missed it

On his winning goal, said he just went back and did his routine, which he has done a thousand times before, didn't think past kicking the goal

The whole mood of the group was upbeat

Any questions feel free

Thanks Saty,

You say Hogan trained, how did he train? Did he move well? Was it a long session for him? etc etc.

"Jesse Hogan trained, put that bit in Jesse Hogan injury update topic" - he said that in the second line, it's all in that thread.

This.......just means that there are no magical speeches or positional changes, Roos has them playing for the coach and each other....long time since thats happened.

......and the supporters. These players acknowledge what the supporters have been through the last couple of years and how "most" of us have stuck with them through this period. As Saty would know talking with the boys, to see the Melbourne crowd celebrating after last Sunday's win would mean so much to them.

Saty,

I know you here it all the time but Thanks a heap for all your training reports !!! For all us interstate and oversees fans they are an invaluable source of information and association to our club. Loved some of the images after the game on Sunday showing the Melbourne members going off the collective heads long after the siren had sound - I hope you were one of the lucky ones there !!!

Saty, saw you mentioned Vince doing light duties. Was he copping any extra attention from the medical staff?

I said in the "changes" thread that he appeared to be playing injured. I wouldn't be surprised if he is ruled out this week.

Another bit which I forgot about.

Roos used this session for the one on one onfield talks with individual players again, some of the body language etc is interesting, with Jordie McKenzie Roos spend whole time with hands in pockets, with Pigdog Riley, continually doing the rolling hands, ie movement, with Jack Watts a lot of pointing out positions on the field, with Cam Pedersen backwards and forwards motions and marking with hands, with Nathan Jones looked like stoppage positions, with Russian the same, with Nev Jetta hands in pockets again

No, when he was running he looked unrestricted, and bouncing around doing that ridiculous handball competiition mentioned originally, was an interesting group 1 ruckman, 1 forward, 1 defender and 1 midfielder, all 4 are battle hardened so maybe just a light session, Tommy Mc and Tyson finished before the rest, but don't think that means anything either, would be more concerned with Bail missing for team continuity

Interesting on Tyson, had a bandage on his upper thigh during the game. Did he have it today?

Maybe told pigdog hes back to the magoos...

And maybe with Jetta it was just a confidence chat

Wouldn't know, Tyson is a wuzza at training when it's cold, he wears skins......did most of the session, perhaps he just got bored with the goalkicking....didn't talk to any of the fitness/medical staff

I'd reckon 1987; they got the wind in their sails then.

It can happen quickly.

Been talking to Nev for five years, he is not lacking in confidence, just loving being in his preferred position and given a specific role, asked him why Chappy kept trying to hit him on Sunday, "I just told him he was old and past it".Think because of the past Nev has gone under the radar, like his mum, very knowledgable about footy, think the conversation with Roos was more along the lines of who he will get this weekend, same with Jordie

Seems more likely. I just meant Roos telling him to keep doing what hes doing because hes taking monster strides. Glad to see him and the team reap the rewards.

Sorry, poor grammar gets me every time. It is written like a note to self.

Perhaps "Jesse Hogan trained, details in Jesse Hogan injury update topic" or "Jesse Hogan trained, I put that bit in Jesse Hogan injury update topic" Would have made more sense with less words, and anal retentive's like me wouldn't need people like you, to point back to the sentence that didn't make sense in the first place. Thanks

Most players every week go on light duties. Its all about managing the load on the bodies and if you have a bit of soreness its basically straight to light duties. So dont stress about player being on the sidelines doing light stuff its all part managing load work.

Correct dazzle, some afl clubs have a rotating light week to ensure that every player gets a light week during each four week block

One hundred percent.

Like Darren Burgess said on radio yesterday, as far as managing players' fitness, you have a baseline training load you want the group to do, then each individual does either a bit more or a bit less based on the info they have gathered on each player and where their body is at that stage.

Some do more work during the week because their bodies can handle it, or because they only played a quarter as a sub.

Some do less work because they got less rest than usual due to injuries and had to play out 94% TOG instead their average 87%.

All sorts of reasons and load management is paramount in professional sport nowadays.

Saty,

Do you think that the group that was getting it light, were the ones suffering General Soreness.

I remember going to training after a pretty heavy game that we had a half dozen players suffering general soreness and just didn't need much contact in case it made things worse.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
