So what happens if GWS turn it around and put in a credible performance against the Hawks, does this 12 pages then count for nothing, I can remember the Brisbane Bears and this time last year we were being talked about in the same tones, how times have changed

Unless they end up with a good coach (who isn't crazy and out for revenge) nothing will change.

I know some will say "What about Guy McKenna" thing is he didn't learn from Sheedy.

Maybe they will see the errors of their ways and go after some unrestricted players. Mightn't take them too long to turn things around if they were successful.

You can have all the young 'potential' but if you don't have a strong group of leaders who have been to the mountain top, that team isn't going anywhere.

We've lost players over the last couple of years because we haven't been competitive and we've all said the same thing, "I don't blame them for leaving", how long will the players up there put up with performances like the weekends?

Another year of sub standard performances will see the floodgates open. If these kids don't feel like they are progressing and feel they may be on the scrap heap in a few years, they will be out of there.

My view on GWS is that a team in Western Sydney, like a team on the Gold Coast, is critical to the AFL's long term success and is a good thing.

That team being absolutely putrid with all the talent it has, though, is not a good thing.

The team feels far too sterile at the moment; though Gold Coast is only one year older, they already feel and appear to be much more of a 'team' than a bunch of people playing in the same jumper.

Too early to make any call on GWS, but they have a lot of hard work to do - it's not just going to happen because they have high draft picks, they need to make it happen.

Just heard Scully referred to as "an irelevant footballer" on SEN. Pretty much sums it up perfectly. The Dees are so much better off without him.

Yes, especially if we can pick up Jeremy Cameron for a similar outlay to what GWS pay him!

We organised that one perfectly-well done Schwabby!

We've got Sheedy to thank. I have always thought he did it to F*** us over after we didn't appoint him coach. He has hated us ever since.

Pretty happy we got away with that one.

I think GWS would now love to offload Scully. They maybe be willing to sacrifice one of their best players as long as Scully is the free set of steak knives.

adc there is IMO no chance of Scully leaving GWS to start with who is going to take on his $1million PA salary?

For that matter who would take him at half a million with GWS paying the rest?

He is not even worth half a million.

GWS are stuck with him till the end of 2017. another $3.5 million to go

A little part of me get a lot of joy out of him being paid $1million.

Just being flippant of possible outs for GWS. Since there seems a bottomless pit of money funding them they can afford to take the hit of his salary and be rid of him. They can't afford him draging them down for another 3 seasons. A club may be pursuaded to take him for say GWS paying 75% of his salary and throw in Cameron for example.

Even Caro Wilson had a shot at Scully last night - just dismissed him with a couple of words - now the jury is really in!

The joke is that it was not about Scully at all. It was Sheedy trying to do us over and at the same time trying to get the hype about picking up another number one draft pick. If we had drafted Trengove at one then Sheedy would have gone after Trenners.

Watching Scully run plenty but win little ball last weekend was very satisfying.

Apparently he did go after Trenners, as well as Watta too.

If we do land Jeremy Cameron after his contract is up, Sheeds should make an appearance at the press conference announcing the trade and signing. Not for our benefit but science's. We will be able to find out whether it is possible for a man to have every ounce of smug permanently extracted from his body.

I get it. many Demonlanders don't like Scully. But to say he's "dragging them down" and they might want "to be rid of him" is just ridiculous. Is he worth what he's being paid? No (or, at lest, not yet). Is he an OK footballer? Yes he is. Would he be getting a game in our side if he had stayed with us? Almost certainly.

I think Tom Scully is dragging them down. From all reports, the kids at GWS regularly slag off their opposition - and are known for getting ahead of themselves.

Everything that has been said about the GWS, it just sounds exactly like Tom Scully, and.. Given Tom Scully is their feared and respected leader, I am not surprised they are acting like a bunch of half witted sociopaths.

Is he? Is he feared? By whom? Is he respected? By whom (and what for?). And is he a leader? I don't see it.

Forget titles. Being called a leader or being in a leadership group does not automatically make someone a leader. As I've posted before, leaders have to have followers. You can't have one without the other. And I can't see who Scully's followers might be. Mercenaries tend not to attract followers as they are seen to be self-centred and uncaring about others.

Well said.

$cully is not a leader. He was in the right place at the right time.

When his career is over i doubt we will ever hear from him again.

He was simply Sheedy's attempt to get back at MFC personified and it's backfired bigtime, we all knew how poorly managed the club was the moment they offered 1.2 million a year to an unproven player.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
