35k

33,117 was last year I believe, but this year's numbers slowed to a trickle after that zip-three start which included a 93 point flogging that looked a lot like the Neeld coached side.

The truth is that a lot of pea hearts dropped their heads when Roos did not instantly work miracles.

35,000 is OK but three thou short of what I hoped for pre-season.

We'll get 38k...

Wonder how many tigers have dropped off with microwaved memberships??

after the hell that was last year I'm surprised a lot of people didn't drop off. 35K is a great effort considering the last few years. if we win 7+ this year and Viney/Tyson etc become the heros we expect, we can certainly push for 40 next year

Today, we passed the 35,000 member mark.

Members, give yourselves a pat on the back.

Would have thought wed be closer to 40k with Roosy on board and the obvious improvement of the side

How many members did we have last season?

For a second there I thought you were talking to yourself!

All good now.

Well I'm proud to say I purchased my full membership this year( 1st time member) after we announced we had Roos. I live in WA - wont see a live game this year and are unable to make the annual trek to the G to cheer on the lads. Although it must be said I think I was a bad luck charm.

* Smashed by the blues in the Bruise free affair

* 60+ point belting on Queens Birthday.

* Humiliated at home against the Bombers by 20+ goals

* And our record in WA needs no explanation.

We would've passed 35k earlier if we had won games in the first 3 rounds and hadn't had the bloodbath vs WC. Unfortunately a lot of the fans that are trying to decide whether or not to get a membership make their decision early. Those early rounds cost us about 2k members.

Still good effort and welcome to the new members, you got on board at the start of something special (I hope!).

I want 40K. That's what PJ asked for and that's what he should get.

40k should be the base we aim for with 50k the target when we start getting wins on the board - not this year obviously but over the next 2-3 years hopefully.

Membership numbers can be somewhat deceiving as there's 3 game memberships too....are they in the count?

Yep they should be (other clubs count them as well, adds to the list of names we have for sponsor to hook into and gets their names on the books to try and up-sell them to full memberships and then Reserved seat memberships in following years.

We should be spruiking 1/3 game memberships over the next fortnight targeting the casual fans who are more likely to attend Queens Birthday based on out recent form. Even if it's the only game they attend for the year, get them to buy a membership instead of a GA ticket and add to our numbers/database.

That's probably a main aspect - people waiting for results but I feel that it wasn't until last round (Tigers) that we showed genuine promise and direction. What are the people on the fence thinking - "Is it worth getting a membership halfway through the season when the majority of games to come are away games".

Does anyone know if we offer half-year memberships cause this would really suit those supporters.

They're the ones that'll sign on next year, providing we start well.

Membership is like the Titianic. Goes down pretty quickly but turns very very slowly

3 game members are as much members as any other package. Still have voting rights and still support the Demons.

I only get a 5 game country membership because of how far away I live and how few games I can get to a year but I'd like to think that I and so many other members who can't get to every game are as much apart of this club as anyone who sign up year after year.

North Melbourne has reached 37095 - quite impressive, wonder if they normally have more than us..

They probably would have had more last year, but generally it's pretty neck and neck, if not usually we tend to have slightly more members.

But kudos to them. It wasn't long ago that they were really struggling to pull in members just before and after the Suns were announced as the newly established team on the Gold Coast. Many people supporting other Vic teams also bought a NM membership to help keep them surviving, but after a couple of years they understandably let it lapse. So they would have lost a few numbers because of that. To have over 37,000 members is just reward for the effort done behind closed doors.

Hopefully we'll be back up among those numbers soon too. If the rest of the year keeps tracking the way it is, followed by another solid year of improvement, along with Roosy announcing a contract extension, i really can't see why we cannot seriously get over 40,000 members in 2016.

50,000 should just be regarded as a start. We should be aiming for 60,000 members and to be one of the powerhouse Victorian Clubs. There is no ambition involved if we are always striving to play catch-up with Collingwood and Essendon [and lowly Richmond]: the Melbourne Football Club should be the envy of the league.

p.s. If we keep churning out gutsy wins like last Saturday and Adelaide then this will become a self-fulfilling prophesy!

I agree with you that we should be aiming to be the biggest club in Victoria.

However, that is a few generations away and history proves this.

Look at Hawthorn pre-1997 and today. All those Hawks members and supporters didn't magically appear out of thin air. They didn't sign up pet rocks and dogs like some tossers suggested. The reason why Hawthorn got a huge supporter base that first emerged in 1997 (the merger debate helped arouse them) was because they had churned out champion football teams over the past 30 years. The kids who grew up watching those teams of the '70's and '80's became paid up members once they got some disposable income.

Don't also downplay the effect our last 50 years has had on depressing our support either (and the last 7 years as well). While Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn were off winning flags, we were getting smashed at the G in front of 13k supporters. We are also competing against those same Hawks (and now Geelong teams) to entice a new era of fans.

It may happen but it will take time. I hope Roos does get our culture right as history has also shown you make all the right moves at one point in time and it can set you up for years to come (Barassi to Carlton, George Harris as president, a flood of good recruits from Bendigo/Tommy Hafey to Richmond, the Tiges move to the G, Graeme Richmond/Ian Wilson become administrative heavyweights, the Tiges recruit any and all players).

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
