NO.

Ffs, let him develop naturally in the twos..

He dropped 10 kgs preseason and has only just got that back..

Happy for he and Hoges to knuckle down for a few months and then crack it for a chance in the last few rounds - we wont need them til next year anyway.

..looking forward to seeing Riley at some stage soon, tho.

6kg. And he put it back on start of the season.

PS- DO you feel the same about JKH, or just the high picks?

Building culture is playing those that deserve it. That may not mean this week, but rewarding his form is more important to his development than playing VFL for a year.

I think no, for this week. Give him one or two more.

JKH is being used in a very different way, by the way. Nothing to do with being precious.

How do you know how Salem would be used? He might be sub for a few weeks, could play forward line.. He's not going to be thrown under a pack at the opening bounce.

Heard roos twice say (and fairly recently) that in fact he dropped a full 10kgs!.. 6 is probably bad enough anyway..

I see your point and personally i feel a bit the opposite.. in the sense that i feel a higher pick should be more ready / more likely to play, if anything.

Was gonna reply about JKH, but i cant 'quote / multi quote' anymore..

JKH is a bit of a freak. right from the word go roos was impressed with his afl-like standards in time trials and in pre season and flagged fairly early from memory,

that his habits and work ethic were of an afl standard.. so with JKH i think we just got lucky.

In saying that, he'll start to burn out and be due for a rest soon like a lot of 1st year players anyway, IMO..

We'll see what Roos decides hey Stu?

Every case is different. JKH is a small forward, had a full pre-season and certainly started with a bang in the NAB challenge. He adds a dimension to our forward line that hadn't been there. Defensive pressure. He's now keeping Byrnes out of the side.

It's very different to Salem who is being moulded as another player who can run through the midfield and to be able to do that, you need a tank. He didn't complete the same amount of pre-season as JKH and we all know about his setback. He didn't feature in the NAB challenge and is now starting to perform well.

Each case is different, but we know the Roos' mantra. Take the pressure off the young kids. Salem is a different case to JKH and so it silly to compare the two.

Couple more weeks of solid form from him and I'd slot him in if it were up to me..

I actually don't mind either way. I'm not pushing for it, but I'll be happy for him if he gets a game. Reading between the lines of the article on the MFC site I don't think he'll play this week anyway.

What the hell are you doing on this board Steve. Go away! Your actually making sense and I'm scared.

As much as I'd love to see him kick out for us, I vote to leave both Salem and Toumpas in the VFL for the whole year.

I don't want to see either in the AFL this year.

Give these kids a chance to develop and gain confidence.

Give Roos a chance to play fringe players instead, it will be a decent cull come seasons end.

I do think they should spend most of the year in the twos but if they're carving it up you need to reward them for their hard work. If they've earned it, give them a taste of the seniors for two or three rounds and then drop them back for more development.

We can't be too precious. Aside from Scharenberg I'm pretty sure every kid picked before Salem has already debuted. I'd be very disappointed if I didn't get to see him unleashed at some point this season.

We won every quarter but the second.

Acknowledged, but to intimate we should limit changes is foolhardy at this point, IMO. Roos has to do whatever he deems right to find the correct balance. Just as the top teams do. Bring Garland back. Bring back Jamar. If Roos thinks Salem is ready, give him a game. Sometimes players in a winning team are unlucky, let alone a losing team. We want to breed a competitive environment and we want to raise the bar. We do that by making changes if there are fringe players knocking down the doors at Casey.

My gut says that he'll play, Roos wouldn't have put his name up there if he wasn't a very strong chance. That said I wouldn't mind the idea of waiting a little longer to make sure he's earned his stripes, it's something we have failed at way to many times and I'm glad Roos isn't rushing the kids in.

JKH is playing because of the role he can fulfil.

If his form warrants it, of course he plays, I am all for proper development but that doesn't mean leaving in form talent at Casey because we are scared they will be whatever we are scared they will be.

Debuting both Salem and Hogan in a pre-arranged week is as stupid as it sounds. I wouldn't put it past Melbourne but surely Roos wouldn't put up his crap.

IMO, Roos raises Salem's name publicly to acknowledge the hard work he is clearly doing and to proffer the unspoken question: how much do you really want it? If you want it, back up your form again in the VFL.

Very clean with hand and foot - actually his disposal embarrassed a lot of his team mates. I genuinely hope he gets a full game next week. He and JKH are certain starters in our best 22 now.

I agree about JKH and Salem being in our top 22. I know Roos wanted to nurse them into league footy but the fact is that these guys are better choices than most other players in our team.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
