Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Rosa is right up there in free agents I'd be looking at.

Would be careful adding too many second chance prospects. I know Roos was the king of them at Sydney but we don't want to end up like Richmond.

I'd be keen to go after young guys not getting a game compared to guys a little older who go in and out of the team.

Was keen on Jarred Lyons this time last year but now not so sure.

A replacement for Clark to rival Fitzy and Pedersen for the ruck/forward role would be the main position it would be nice to have mature depth in. A lot of the other spots we have to focus on quality not quantity.

I am just not sure what to do with getting a forward.

Do we go mature age? GWS? or draft?

balance, all 3

if we end up with more than 1 early draft pick, keep one for the draft for an U-18 kid, & trade one for an establishing/ed young player. (21 - 24yr old).

Also I think we can afford one more mature age player, for 1 year. I'd like one mature age player for our forward half, to direct things like Cross does in the mid section of the ground. Ryan O'keefe would be handy at this (3rd tall), playing some senior games (like chappy does), directing & supporting our young; & also play other games @ Casey to teach onfield. O'Keefe could be an ideal help, to show Howe a thing or two...

I also think O'Keefe would make an excellent assistant, after one playing season. (culture personified) like chappy is.

#edit: also O'Keefe is currently on track to reach 301 games H&A, this year, IF He plays all games without missing any.

I feel ya, the only problem with okeefe that others have mentioned is that he's pretty old.

33, would it be worth the gamble? his body might not allow it,

I think that IF he get delisted at years end, then I would take him with a late pick or free agency or preseason draft?

I wouldn't be using any of the more valuable picks on a 1Yr prospect.

I'd be recruiting him to play around 13 AFL games, & to help out with experience, culture, & teaching/directing on/off field.

we could always go for nicnat.

it would make it easier to run a comparison on JW figures.

Not sure about Levi Greenwood's contract status but he's one I'd be looking at. 35 touches against Port. 13 in one quarter against the Dogs coming on as the sub.

He is still seemingly considered as depth to their midfield. He certainly wouldn't be here. 25 yrs old and looks to be moving towards his peak.

Cue someone to say he's just re-signed.

Yeh in that case he could be a good acquisition, play a role like j mac did at GWS.

Dependant on picks, but aiming for a young but experienced bordering A grade player would be good, forward or Mid. or both if it were possible. sheil first that.

Draft the best possible tall forward in 2014 draft.

pick up o'keefe as a player coach.

my hit list would be

F/A

goldstein

Mundy

Rosa

i see no reason we couldn't snare all three if we offer the dollars free'd up by clark and perhaps chip if he leaves ( hope he stays)

and I'd do some serious trading with other picks

#3 for Jonothan Patton - vic boy, dees supporter, must be nervous about his spot with Boyd breathing down his neck, a pay rise might get his attention

#4 ( if frawley goes) I wonder if this would snare us Luke Parker and a pick?

#21 - Zac Smith - i still rate him as one of the very best emerging ruckman, seems to have fallen down the pecking order a little at the suns with Niccolls playing well, worth a try?

#39- Billy Stretch FS

#57- todd viney magic picks

DFA

another Daniel Cross type would be good, i wonder if we could snare Chris Judd on a 1 year deal that leads into coaching?

perhaps a key defender? Nathan Brown seems to have fallen out of favour at the pies.

I am aware of that, also aware of the fact that there is a chance none of the above will want to come to us, so just covering all bases.

Zac Smith hasn't fallen down the pecking order, he's still recovering from a knee reco. and not due back for a little while yet.

Would love him as I rate him as the best young ruckman in the comp, unfortunately he's also still the no. 1 ruck at GC when fit and also a Qld boy.

Zac Clarke should a bit of form yesterday has had an interrupted pre season but rate him quite highly very athletic with his prime ahead of him. He and Sinclair to me are probably the best ruck options

Skills and

speed have to be the priorities for us moving forward. We have lacked in these qualities for far to long. I am tired of turnovers via poor disposal by foot and handballs to ankles and over head. So if players fit this bill then put them to the top of the list.

I wonder what it would take to get a deal done for zac clarke

ok,i will say it.

hoges.

should also say,PR is one of the few coaches in the league to want to give up something to get something.

most clubs are scared to give one away, but roos doesnt mind this as he respects the trade cycle.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
