Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We do not have speed - We do not have a game breaker

Paul Roos needs to recruit speed, recruit ruckman, and above all recruit 1 or 2 absolute stars who break the lines, take the game on and can win a game off their own boot.

Nothing can be done this season other than teach those who will stay on the list. I'm tipping PR has already worked out who to bone, and there are plenty to choose from.

Watching the rubbish our B graders serve up can't last beyond this season. I was in the members on Sunday and the bad sentiment is towards the awful skill errors by the same culprits every week.

These culprits would not get a game in any other side. It is simply astounding that these guys are supposed to be among the best in the world at their sport.

Money must be set aside to get a superstar into this team....imperative this happens.

What we need is smart footballers who can use the ball and see the good leads of other smart footballers.

So often I see a good lead to a good spot not honoured due to they either cannot see it, or does not have the ability to hit that target.

I'd rather we recruited players who can use it.

Blease has speed, can't kick for shite, but has speed. Can't get the pil often, but has speed. Foot speed gets over rated, quick thinkers, quick movers who can bloody use it.

No argument GG, quick thinkers will help us a lot. I noticed GC have a lot of smart footballers, unlike our mob and especially our recruiters of recent years.......no smarts at all

Agreed...Smart footballers who want to get better...

Once again we must be at the forefront of FA trading...$$$ are in the kitty...Todays game is the yearly reminder.

Compare it to yesterdays second Quarter...Same ground

A player with speed (or more importantly acceleration to create separation), core strength and good decision making should be what we're looking for at the top end of the draft. Their are a couple with at least two of those categories covered in Clem Smith and Jarrod Pickett, I want to see Brayshaw play. Apparently he has worked on his speed, but he already has good core strength and makes good decisions. Likes to tackle too.

Something about Smith makes me think his combination of speed and aggression could really be an x-factor for whoever picks him. Dermie mentioned something on the radio that resonated the other day. It went along the lines of "the one thing that has been consistent about playing the top side or top two sides in the competition is that you always walk off the field sore after playing them. They punish you physically." Smith likes to punish opposing players when he plays.

A combination of Viney, Jones, Cross (for now) and eventually Salem and Hogan is a core of guys that like playing physically aggressive football. It's a start of a change of (what I've considered to be) our 'polite' brand of football. Drafting someone like Smith could really emphasise a change in tone in our brand of football. I want to see all of our players hitting the contests hard, all of the time. It's what I liked about St Kilda this weekend. They weren't playing a pretty brand of football, but they all followed where Lenny Hayes led them.

If Frawley walks I don't think we will be doing much in the FA period, hoping for an early compensation pick, that we may then use for horse trading with clubs desperate for some of the talls supposedly available this year.

The OP is on the money.

This club hasn't had a match winner or 2 since Alan Jakovich and Gazza were running around sticking it up the opposition and that's an eternity ago.

There's no speed, no silky skills and no power in a marking contests, other than Dawesy. We have an amazing mid, in terms of grunt and see ball get ball with the Jones boy but not really a match winner as such.

Very few weapons to worry anyone. No wonder so many opposition players, even the rookies, just run off their opponents and spread like mad whenever it looks like they might gain possession.

It's a massive 2 to 3 years in the draft for us... and Roosy must surely be realising the enormity of it all by now. He can't leave in 2015. He'll sign for 2016 for sure now. 2015 is just the beginning of the build of a new look list for mine.

We need ready made experience as well as kids to get this girl off the canvas

Hogan - Key forwards make teams play more direct

Kent - fast and runs with the footy

Salem - smart, pacy and skilled

Toumpas - fit, runs and uses the ball

Plus the more speculative in Hunt as a speedster from half back.

The list managers know full well speed kills. Roos knows it too. Roos also knows that the first step in winning games is winning the contested ball hence the recruitment of Tyson, Cross, Michie and Riley.

Geelong maintain the quickest ball movers in the league despite having a mix of slow players and quicker guys.

Smith is not a big lad he is around the 175-78 mark and I don't see him getting any bigger he has some speed but lacks a tank. He does like to hurt people when he tackles but does not have the tank to do it often enough or be the game changer we hope for. He lacks the size to be a big mid using his pace and size to burst out of clearances like a Judd or Dangerfield. I would describe Smith as a poor mans Cyril Rioli and at best he may end up being a Lyndsay Thomas type.

Pickett has blinding pace but can go missing for long spells during games, not sure about this kid, has all the tools but IMO lives on the tools when needed and the reason he goes missing so much is because he lacks the hunger, which will be amplified at the next level

Completely agree the non honoring of leads is doing my head in.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
