Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I think 45 has nailed it.

McKenzie in to nullify Murphy.

Dropping Byrnes we lose nothing.

Dawes fixes up our forward structure, and gives Fitzy a much needed rest.

Being in the 2s should restore his confidence somewhat, too.

I'd move Frawley back to defence with Pedersen and leave Dunn up forward.

Spencer & Warnock to largely be a stalemate.

Tyson winning the ball at stoppages to be our star performer.

So, who would you have second rucking against Rowe or Casboult?

(And were you being serious or satirical when you said Fitzy needs a "much needed rest". If the former, why?)

Pederson is likely to relieve Spencer - has done it before. Not the best option but all we have. Dawes does not have the conditioning.

I know we wish for our team to bond and look after each other but this is a bit to far

I don't jest.

And don't call me Shirley.

It's better than what I murmured when I read your prediction.

We haven't kicked 70 points yet this season.

Come Saturday afternoon I hope you can contentedly snigger derision in my general direction, but in the meantime are you mad? Win by 70 bah humbug.

I'd use Frawley in that role at first, maybe try Pedersen if it's not working out.

The blues are likely to use Rowe or Casboult as the second ruck. Whoever goes head to head with them is unlikely to lose much and if it's a wet low scoring game there wont be many crucial centre bounces that don't involve Spencer.

The reason not for Pedersen is because I'd leave him and let him settle in to full back for a second week. I'd be keen on Frawley because Dawes and Dunn should be the main forward targets so the point of getting Frawley away from the backline is to let him attack the ball and create some play. The ruck would be a perfect place for him to try that.

Warnock is useless around the ground but will kill Spencer in the tap outs, let's hope they're not to advantage.

Wet day worries me with our possession game, wet weather football is about metres gained not possessions.

Tyson & Cross will be very important players in the conditions.

I'd probably put Pedersen in there.

Failing that I'm not sure. Dawes at a pinch?

I know he wouldn't like it, but is big enough for short bursts.

I know it might leave us a bit short in defence, but presumably Spencer can run with Warnock, and Pedersen would only go in the ruck when Carlton were shorthanding their attack.

I'd rather sacrifice Pedo and run the risk of him getting injured in ruck contests, than Dawes.

As for Fitzy, I think he needs a rest from feeling like he's our great white hope of carrying the forward line until the other boys get back.

The pressure got to him, as well as the poor delivery.

But I'd like him to go and dominate in the VFL again for a few weeks then come back brimming with confidence.

Just like I imagine Roos has planned for Trengove, and to a lesser extent Toumpas.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
