Melb v St Kilda cannot come soon enough....

Actually this thread/topic is one of the better one's lately, a rather "courageous" assertion followed by some serious discussion and a bit of humour, not a skerrick of vitriol to be seen

Somebody mentioned Juice? Now I want to watch that first quarter against North at Etihad from a few years back. He could do anything during that quarter. Pity we had something like 18 goals to 3 against us in the last 3qtrs...

And just to prove my point, Juice kicked two goals and was looking sensational then you know what happened!?

He was moved into the ruck to cover yet another inadequacy!

If only he had played out the game at Full Forward Alas what might have been!

Lucas Cook never had it in him to be an AFL footballer, or for that matter a VFL footballer; he was an exceptionally bad choice, but that's life.

Juice had some special talents but once again never had it in him to be an AFL footballer.

Juice was having trouble getting a game at Norwood before he got injured. Please ....

Incorrect, Juice was a regular in the senior side when he did an ACL a few weeks out of finals which lingered into last season as well!

Lets all hope a fit raring to go "Juice" Plunders opponents at Norwood this year which will set the tone for a fairytale renaissance back at AFL level in 2015!

Lets here it for the mighty Michael "Juice" Newton, THE THINKING MANS FAN FAVOURITE!!!!

If we re-recruited either we'd get done with tanking.

Nup but as I have said previous, there was a bloke who kicked 35 goals from 25 games "Juice Newton" never ever got a real go and then when he did got injured!

Rather a Juice than a bloke who never ever played a game!

Playing for Norwood this year after two injury ruined years ! Would love for him to have a great year and then who knows!? Plenty of clubs might be tempted to draft a 27 year old mature age!

Juice Newton? Just a thought!

^this guy.

Cook was never going to make it, was another wasted quality pick.

So he earned all Australian CHF for the under 18 competition by accident ?

I believe he would have gone under pick 20.

On Gysberts - We picked him much earlier than experts expected however he was always considered a 20's pick.

It highlights again the huge gap between TAC and AFL and what a lottery drafting can be and highlights to me that the safest option is to take the BEST players available not gambling for needs sake.

Agreed, but we have so many experts on here, here is a puzzler for them, how did JKH, who we are all salivating over, and was a co captain at the Oakleigh Chargers, slip through to us at 40?

From what I have seen of the drafts since the early 90's you should get a quality player if they are top 10, not a guarantee, 11-30 good solid soldiers, 31 onwards could be anything

Simple - considered too small and light for AFL.

I know this moves a little away from the topic but I still believe a lot has to do with development. Good teachers at good schools with good culture produce better end results.

I remember him going into a marking contest and getting a smack around the chops by a North backman. Juice went down like an over zealous WWF wrestler. Got him the free. I was sitting on the boundary and it made me lol. He was on fire that quarter, but it was quickly put out. Hardly got a touch for the remainder of the match IIRC.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
