Yep good predictions. I think Trengove will improve a lot but maybe he wont get most improved as his last 2 years might be considered him playing under his talent. Same with Grimes.

It has to be Dunn's year to step it up to a reliable player, no excuses.

I'd love to see Tommy Mc go from recognised Melbourne player who has his good and bad days to genuine quality key defender. A few more intercept marks, a few less goals to opponents and a few less turnovers would see that.

Roh Bail's first game for the year was a ripper. If he can produce that all year he will win.

Agree Howe has a heap of improvement left in him from sometimes flaky performer to genuine consistent and maybe even A grade player. I think he needs to play with more desperation and ruthlessness and really stamp his authority on his opponents. He has the fitness, speed and skills to do it all.

By the far away leader for this award who just has to make it his season and show the improve is Watts. New coach, new role, new confidence, fitter, faster, harder it has to be Watts' year. Ever since we drafted him he's been the shining hope and sure we played our part in hampering his career as much as he did but everything is in his favour now. I even think his role in the game plan is pretty much designed for him. Roos will ask that he goes hard and tackles and defends but I think he's not going to be burdened by defending.

I'm thinking for most improved of someone who was useless last year and has the wider scope for improvement. Players like Bail, Jamar, Tappy, Blease, Strauss, Nicho, Pedo.

In this case my money is on Tappy.

God knows why, I continually rant on about players being ordinary such as Blease, Dunn, Strauss & Nicho but for some reason I just have a soft spot for Tappy and backing him in for a really good year.

edit: I also say Tappy as he couldn't be any worse than he was last season, so it should be a pretty safe guess for 'most improved'

For me it's got to be Trenners after Friday night. Finally he will be able to get back on the path of being the best player he can be without the concerns of being captain or being an A grade midfielder before he is ready.
It will be interesting to see how Watts will go. I get the feeling that he is feeling ten times better about himself with Roos as coach and might surprise a few.

The most obvious answer hopefully is THE TEAM

But Grimes should make great strides

IF Watts turns out to be the one then look out!

Clark's hind leg would also be a good one

Before friday night i felt as though if trenners didn't improve he was looking at time in the VFL most of our mids were ahead of him, now he has sured up that spot for now in my mind

Toumpas or trengove

Great topic! I hope Trenners and Watts live up to their potential. They were touted as the top talent in the land for a reason. The club needs genuine stars and there is little reason why they shouldn't get somewhere near the top. If managed well!

I also hope that Blease, Strauss and Tappy start to show their wares too. If these guys don't live up to expectations then the club has wasted a very good (draft) period, and the club has a massive hole (age) to fill. I believe part of the reason Tyson was traded in was to fill a gap in the respective draft he was drafted. With Mitch down we got very little from that year too

Given the base he is coming from and given the chalk vs cheese performance of last Friday compared to last season, if he gets the opportunities to play AFL and continues to improve, I would say Pedersen is big possibility to grab the crown.

I recon Grimes, Trenners and I thnk Bail if he continues to show what he did on Friday and keeps his head away from stray knees.

The jury is still out on Watts for my part. Like eveyone else I think he has a massive up side but not sure we will ever see it. I hope so coz if we do we will be a tyough side to match up on.

Beat me to it Hardtack. Cam was cast into the role of the villain last year and made a poster boy for all our past coach's mistakes. It was great to see him crashing packs and looking fit on Friday night. Roos also mentioned him in dispatches. I hesitate to use the words "Leigh Brown" but perhaps Pederson can be our late maturing utility that Brown made his own.

trenners/grime

dont have to carry their bodies through the gutz all day

he will play them where they belong.

Of Strauss, Tappy and Blease .... i'll say Strauss (form in some games last year were very promising)

Of Jamar, Gawn and Spencer .... I'll say Spencer (think he's about to hit his straps)

Of the new experienced recruits ... I reckon Tyson has the most room for dramatic improvement

Of the young guns ... The Toump

Surely this is Colin Sylvia's year...I'm going to put a lazy $100 on him to win the Brownlow. Wait.... nevermind.

And the prize for Tuesday 18th goes to ........

While coming off a higher base than some others mentioned on here, I think our new game style will mean Frawley can recapture his AA form.

He showed that with our style of deep posession and then releasing to the fat side that he could once more regain that dash and endeavour out

of the backline that got him to his previous highs, he looked like he was encouraged to take the game on, while maintaining an awareness of what

our game style still was.

For the same reasons as above, Grimes will also thrive. His courage at times Friday night was supreme.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
