Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gysberts Delisted

He was tipped to go in the first round, or early second. Emma Quayle had him at pick 14 to Sydney Swans. His weight/height average was also better than most.

No idea what went wrong, but I don't see why MFC should cop all the blame. Perhaps their psychological testing wasn't up to scratch.

Will get picked up by a top 4 club and become a champion. Too good a talent to waste. All the very best Cale, er, I mean Lucas, um sorry, Jordan. Oh dear...... I'll just get my coat on the way out.

Fantastic MS

One thing Neeld was probably correct about was "elite training standards", and the lack there of Jordan Gysberts showed. Most of us thought Gysberts was harshly treated in 2012 and was shipped off far under his market value.

We sold North a lemon. And they sold us a lemon. Very mischievous from both clubs (we lose, because we have Pedo for another 2 years) ...

You think that the three years he spent here had no impact at all on his growing body?

The fact that he spent his formative years as an AFL player at the same club where Cale Morton, Lucas Cook, Jack Watts and co. all failed to develop muscle mass in line with draftees at other clubs indicates we did little to help him.

Not convinced with logic of your argument here. These players all have a similar body type, tall and skinny. Some body types dont build muscle easily. That was the issue many of us had with BP's (or was CS in there as well?) drafting; "oh please not another skinny outsider!" Lucas Cook was the last straw for many of us who thought we needed a mix of types, that is after the succession of choices of lightweights, we needed a few more aggressive types with physiques to match.

It was obvious BP was following some formula based on what seemed successful elsewhere; Tall mids this year, skinny, quick outside runners, next, then good kicks, who knows? All we do know it has been a shambles. Development has been bad but you need the right cattle to work with.

I might be the odd one out, but I reckon this kid had immense talent. He had sure hands in close, and could think in a pack. It was the MFC that killed him due to a horrible fitness program, and even worse player development culture. Yes, he was skinny, but it cannot be the single reason for not making it at AFL level. Perhaps his mental application was not up to it. o it. But I saw him at training one day at Casey and he was keeping up with the others, running with the others, and didn't seem to have any down side except for his size.

WGAF. I mean seriously.

The way this forum regurgitates the failings of delisted players is funny, in a weird sort of way.

I don't want to turn this into another drafting vs development thread. Suffice to say, whether we picked these players higher than they deserved to go (which IMO only applies to Gysberts and Cook), we still brought in talented players worthy of decent picks, meaning that, even if they weren't worth a first round pick, they still didn't reach their potential while at the club.

I wonder what he would look/play like now if he was originally picked up by Essendon.....

He goes from his weight and build to a build akin to a sally pearson build. No amount of drugs given to him can make him big. Still wouldn't want to lift weights

I hate to say it but can we get a bit of balance in this. I am sure we have all taken risks in our lives and for one reason or other they did not come off. I'm sure Jordon is devastated in being axed by North, and I am sure he in his own mind has done everything to develop his AFL career.,

The fact that we think he is a dud gets us nowhere except that we will never again let our club be taken over by mediocrity. Slamming Gysberts does not get us anywhere, except make us out to be the uncharitable shits that many of us are on this site.

Pick 11 and Pick 12 in consecutive years are now no longer even in the AFL system.

We the financial members and supporters of this club have been totally screwed by a lot of incompetence from people who have since been thrown out.

What the Hell was the strategy?

Thank God it is in the past, but it does make me angry for the Wasted years we have all been subjected too.

The MFC deserves no respect on any level until we start winning...To hear CS on SEN a few weeks back talk about draft recruiting was an insult.

Its almost makes you feel like we weren't even in the first round of the draft those two years. What a waste

"Gysberts arrived at Aegis Park at the conclusion of 2012 and was an emergency on several occasions, but didnt play a senior game. The midfielder had played 19 matches with Melbourne."

Background

Jordie Gysberts arrived at Aegis Park via trade following the 2012 season.

A good inside clearance player, Gysberts is lightly framed but smart, courageous and uses the ball well.

Gysberts started 2013 at VFL level for Werribee, playing in the midfield and has developed into one of the Tigers' most dependable players.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
