Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Yep, would have played with you at Box Hill and played a lot of footy with the Pioneers.

Brian could certainly take care of himself, I think it was a game out Heidelberg way when his skills came in handy. I wouldn't want to be coming up against him and Balmy at Geelong.

Oh what a small world. Still remember the Pioneers in the under 17's we never could beat you guys. We played a prelim final where we were about 8 goals up at half time and still got beaten. It was hard to get a ball past Allen Dewold at centre half back that year. He went on to bigger things at the Hawks but he was not the most gifted player running around at BHHS and the Pioneers at that time as I remember it.

Country footballer that came through the TAC cup with the bushies and played with some very good AFL today.

Went over to the SANFL to have a year under Former demon player Clay Sampson then back to Victoria to the VFL with Coburg who interestingly was coached by Jade Rawlings for half the year before he took over from Terry Wallace.

Played EDFL for Northern Saints now back up the country playing the strong Ovens and Murray league (Fev League) and still going today ^_^

Though didn't have a really good year this year battled hamstring problems...

Great thread could snag a few recruits for the forum games Lol

Are Fev and Aker going around for another season? Would be good cash I guess...

Yep, remember that game and winning the flag the week after. Alle was a good example of someone who gave everything to make it in the VFL and is a Hawthorn premiership player. We had a couple of great players at the Pioneers who had more class but not the drive to make it, that story gets told time and again at many clubs I guess. The only other kid that went on from there was Kevin Dyson and I knew Kev when he was a little bloke walking around home with a footy under his arm.

Hey Jumbo

I played 175 games for Saint Andrews Box Hill, next door to Saint Peters, I think. Are we talking Springfield Road Box Hill? We took over your oval in 78 and managed to win a flag in 79. You guys were in A grade I think, we were in C grade then up to B grade before we folded a year later after winning 2 flags. Our social secretary did a runner with all the social club proceeds as I remember

That's the one - behind the bowling club.

We won a flag as well ( beat East Bentleigh) and then proceeded to fold. Coincidentally, our social secretary took off with the funds too!

We came from fourth that year and unfortunately, yours truly tore a hammy in the prelim, missing out in the granny....spiteful game...

You guys were Swans colours, iirc? Elgar road? I think the most hated teams at the time were Collingwood District and Dandenong South - dirty bastards.

Gosh, memories! Part time job, girlfriend, uni, Dees, Prospect Hill hotel, HG Kinga and feeling bullet proof.....life was sweet.

Edit: Our ground was across the road from Blackburn High on Springfield Road, sorry about the mistake at the start of my post.

You're talking Box Hill Adelphians, they had the Swans colours.

Pretty sure Collingwood and Dandy Sth came in when the competitions amalgamated to form the Southern League. There was some pretty unforgiving football played in those days, Richmond Amateurs and West Ivanhoe were another couple of nice teams and not forgetting StKilda City.

Ah yes! St Andrews....what colours did they have?

Did you play for the Adelphians?

St Andrews had brown and Gold from memory but not Hawthorn stripes it was more the old swans type "V", 'Hood' could tell you for sure. They used to play down at Springfield Park in Dorking rd. Box Hill

Adelphians were our enemies at Pioneers, lots of battles in the junior days and personal rivalries carried through for years after. So no I didn't play for them, that's a little bit like asking KB how many games he played for Carlton.

Pioneers played down at Sparkes reserve where the ruby and archery are now, a natural lake when the rains come down hard. For those that don't know the area it the water gets up over the rugby crossbar when it floods.

Played junior footy in the Southern Mallee League with Rainbow, family moved to Geelong and played with South Barwon, last junior season with Modewarre. Senior reserves football with Belmont G.D.F.L and Sebastapol in the Ballarat League. A few senior games for Warragul Industrials, too many injuries and not enough ticker brought the career to an end. After seeing a few peers faced with knee transplants and other long term injuries, glad I got out and spent my Saturdays watching the Dees when I did.

I myself played at thw Warragul Industrials,

I won a undr 12's B&F played interleague, won an under 17's B&f,

kicked a few golas as a rover/FP.

Played one senior game got flogged by 200+ points, The rest was two's footy as i had little time to commit and from the age from 16-present got on the alcohol and ive put on a few KGS!

havent played for two years due to work and drinking [censored] at the G

what years were you at the dusties Return of the dees?

Played a couple of years in the Goulburn Valley for Echuca, earning about 300 dollars a game....pretty good paper for the 80s!

;)

You did OK. I played about 80 games for Tatura and we got paid two pounds a game.

Played for Bruthen then. about 40 games, at ten quid a game.

Played in New Guinea for about 4 or 5 years. A couple of games or Thailand in Vietnam, and quite a few games of superules in the NT.

I suppose all up I played about 500 games.

Plus umpired another 50 or so in the NT.

How delightfully ridiculous.

While I haven't watched that much women's AFL, I can say with certainty that women's soccer used to be a hell of a lot rougher than men's before they reigned it in. They had this lovely little rule that said that the women were allowed to use their arms to protect their breasts from forceful contact. As in any sport, this quickly translated to "I'm allowed to charge into opponents with my arm raised at chest height and hit them as hard as I like in the name of protecting my breasts from harm." A couple of the international sides had their own team techniques to get the most bang for their buck out of this, including at least one side who would lead with the elbow.

Tat? Bulldogs colours. Shane Loveless was capt/coach for Tatura when I was playing. Monstrous man, huge unit and a thumping kick!

Good footy up there!

500 games? Wow! How's the body?

Played a season of under 9s outer Western suburbs. Rubbish club apparently, my parents wouldn't let me go back the next season.

Moved house shortly after and took up Rugby at an eastern suburbs private school. Tight head prop for about 10 years for school then club, including a few games for the Victoria schoolboys team (which sounds great but it's a bit like getting picked in the AFL schoolboys team for New Zealand's South Island!).

Umpired footy on Sunday's for a few years during school days while playing rugby on the Saturdays. (The rules as they are written are very rarely the rules that are played!)

Gave it away for a few years after tearing knee cartridge in a freak crowd surfing accident.

2 games for demonland, including 3 goals on debut.

Thinking going around next year in a club 18 side somewhere with mates!

My Rugby club had a girls side and I'll back up the girls footy stories. Training with/against them was scary! Damn they went hard. My theory is blokes playing footy/Rugby might do it because they also have or because they like footy with mates. Nothing says they need to be committed. The girls who decide to play are the few who are willing to go hard.

Thanks BbO I really love reading your posts. I agree with many of your Demonland opinions. Keep em coming.

So looking forward to a great year in 2014 with lots more success. It was great cheering the Dees with all of you Demonlanders- such good camaraderie to keep us going. Let's ride the optimism wave. I'll be there in 2014 cheering with you all.

OMG don't feed his ego after 3pm as you can never predict what might happen!

Strangely the body is in good knick apart from a couple of fingers that don't look normal.

Frank Hogan from SA and Bill Cody ex St Kilda were two of the coaches that I remember.

Keith Warburton the Carlton freak was around too.

I remember giving Dickie Clay, the Richmond wing/full back a bath one day. He was only about 17 at the time.

Tom Hafey was the Shepparton coach.

Good times, good memories.

Oh to be running around again! Ended up playing for Coburg VFA days, a couple of seasons as a skinny kid amongst the big boys. Knees copped the brunt of heavier bodies hitting me but still managed a couple of years in the seniors. Few Essendon lads came in when they were done at the old VFL.

I'm skipper of a div 2 side up in Canberra. The highest amateur league up here. CHF. I go ok...

Actually, I am pretty good.

Just sayin...

Lived in the Berra for my young adult years. Which club are you with? Is that ACTAFL or Monaro League. (Don't even know if they're called that anymore tbh). There was a big connection with the basketball guys and Eastlake for a while.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
