Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward

With the free agency and trade period having already delivered four midfielders to date and another seemingly on the way via draft pick 9, I think its time to look around for a dangerous crumbing forward either through what's left of trading, delisted free agents or the draft.

We have Shannon Byrnes but his best days are in the past. I think we would definitely cap off our efforts if we could find a player capable of kicking goals on a regular basis at the feet of Clark, Dawes, Hogan and Howe but who can we chase?

I think back to the days when Jeff Farmer was at his best roaming the forward line and causing havoc. He turned us from also rans into a formidable team back at the turn of the century. A player of his ilk would be handy to say the least.

And one Dale Garlett comes to mind!

Maybe we don't need one with the big fella's simply clunking everything. Here's hoping.

I'd love to get Garlett, think he could be something special. Will be interesting to see who picks him up and where.

Stealing a line from someone else here around crumbers:

"Crumbers are like the cream on the cake however we still don't have any cake"

I still think we should focus on more and more mids to get competitive there and look to pick off a small forward at a later date when the ball gets down there and they can actually get involved.

Who knows, maybe LJ or Wonna may make a return to the redlegs

From another thread, Fitzy crumbs as well as many, and offers other attributes............

Or did you mean a small crumbing forward?

I liked the look of Lennon, thought he roved packs well and was smart around the 50 arc. Would be happy with him if we ended up picking him at 9.

Could Blease be that player, he does not accumulate a lot of possessions but can kick goals and has speed. Would need to work on only defensive pressure and tackling.

Fitzpatrick has gots ta go.

I know everyone loves him and all that. But he's 50th in line in our forward line and I don't think he'll ever be better than the forwards in front of him.

He'd get more chances elsewhere. We need a crumber.

Trade him for what we can get and dedicate that pick to a goal sneak (if there in fact are any)

How's Dom Barry below the knees, clean?

Barry is a wingman.

Has nice skills, is a smooth mover but definitely not super quick and doesn't seem super dangerous from the couple times I saw him.

I think Shannon Byrnes did enough to suggest he still has a couple of good years left. There were few forward entries last year and on the rare occasion the ball did go forward there was no forward set-up to speak of. Thus Byrnes had few opportunities.

No, if you're going to trade him then trade him for a player you need and know can do the job, not some young speculative pick in a weak draft.

He can possibly play back and is good cover for Dawes and Clark.

How many games did they play last year?

i cant believe how many people dont rate Fitzy. hes got massive upside. i believe he could be more important than watts. id like to see him played at CHF. at 200cm, great endurance and speed that is so very rare for someone that size, he could really present as a target across half forward and the wing. set shot kicking action not crash hot but tidy field kicking and decent hands.

a definitely must keep. id like to see hogan start at CHB. fitzy isnt a great ruck but could be a lethal CHF.

Dawes and Clark in the fwd line.

agreed, i reckon he is one of our best assets

on topic, we haven't had a quality crumber since the early days of Davey

I have canned him a lot but what about Bail?

Has speed, endurance and knows how to get the ball.

Oh hell I forgot he could not hit the side of barn with a howitzer.

But he will need a new spot or it is good night next year.

Could someone teach him how to kick please!

His injuries may yet curtail his career.

Dayle Garlett would be perfect, but not sure if Dees will risk pick 9 on him, and he may not be available by pick 40.

In the short term, Byrnes, Blease, and Kent can all contribute however none were born to crumb. Jetta would be next on the list, but like the others he's a midfielder. The other possibility is Magner, who played a defensive small forward role two years ago.

Look no further

Willy Rioli

His dad, Willy snr, was drafted by Hawthorn about 20 years ago but was too small to have any impact.

His grandpa, Sebastian was one of S Freo's legends and could have been anything but for a back injury.

His cousin is Cyril Rioli.

His uncle was Dean Rioli.

His uncle was Maurice Rioli.

An exceptional pedigree and ... he can play too.

If Garlett is still around come pick 40 we should think about that (I honestly don't think anyone knows where he will go)

Small forwards can be found with late picks so no harm drafting a couple potential diamonds in the rough and cutting them if they are not showing much after 2 years.

I haven't been following the rumour thread - any talk about Jed Lamb? (being from Sydney)

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
