Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

So he's a bit of a lad and has played up with his end of season cricket buddies after a premiership. Who cares?

Who cares if he nuded up a few years ago under the influence. He lives and breaths sport, loves his footy and cricket.

I'm sure he is mature enough now and despite him being dropped this year at the Crows, I thought it was one of his more consistent years (along with his B&F season).

All the best for Col and Vince.

Context mate. Look at the post I was replying to. It will probably do some of our more intense guys, such as Dawsey for example,a world of good having a bloke who looks on the lighter side of life a bit more. In my view we just have to try and avoid gilding the lily a bit and building him up into someone he isn't. Just as Shaw has with the Pies, Vince had run his race with the Crows. That doesn't mean they can't play. As I said we will see how he goes.

Someone needs to organise after game drinks anyway :)

Video clip up on the Dee's website with 2013 highlights.

Didn't realise Bernie had such a nice kick on him...I knew it was good, but some of those kicks were Davey like...pleasant surprise!

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2013-10-22/bernie-vince-highlights

I'm picking up my mouth from the ground after watching him kick. Did not realize how much of an elite kick he is! Gosh Hogan and Clark are going to be licking there lips with this bloke hitting them lace up.

It's a premature call I know, but to me, the recruitment of Bernie Vince is just another example of the excellent job our recruitment and coaching teams have done so far in this off-season. They have clearly identified the major 'holes' in our list, and seem to have made important inroads into plugging them ...... and at seemingly little cost. We haven't recruited established stars, but together, they might just start to light up the night sky a little bit, which is literally light years ahead of the bleak outlook we have been forced to endure year after year for a decade.

I've been thinking that I wouldn't be too surprised to see Roos put Vince on a HBF at times, to give us precise drive out of the back half.

Would love to see Vince running around on the wing too.

Reminiscent of Tingay kicking down the wing.

wow, theres a fond memory :)

Bernie did an interview on triple m Adelaide today. Great listening, and he speaks well.

http://www.triplem.com.au/adelaide/sport/afl/news/2013/10/bernie-vince-off-to-melbourne/

Worth a listen. If anyone wanted evidence that we're doing things differently (and professionally) a few gems in that, from the presentation by Viney/Roos to the fact that Roos took the trouble to call his mum and dad. That he didn't even want to talk to us, but ended up signing, speaks volumes.

Forgot also that Viney was his midfield coach in the year he won his B&F.

Some key things I thought was interesting:

  • Crows went about this poorly
  • Paul Roos rang Bernie's parents to make them feel welcome. Something Sando never did. Mum was star struck and dad was on the tractor.
  • Is a massive fan of Roos and Viney. Loves watching on the couch and thinks he is a Australian icon in football. Trained at the Swans prior to getting drafted and was a big fan then. Viney was midfield coach the year he won the BnF.
  • When talking about the leadership role at the dees, he said at the meeting with us he mentioned that our lack of drive for leaders here, Said a lot of our leaders take a lot of things to heart which I found very interesting. Also mentioned that the Dees said Jones is almost like a boy skipper, where the players get around him and look up to him.. Not surprised!
  • Lol I love Taylor Walker! rang Bernie to give him a bit of flack which is great to see. Bit of ''true mates' banter. absolute classic this bloke! Made sure that Bernie had the stubbies cold for when he comes over to watch the Dees.

Sounds like a very honest bloke, maybe too honest...

But Roos and Viney calling his folks is a nice if hardly a standard touch. I wonder how we would react to that if we knew this and we didn't get him, or if we knew, didn't get him, and it was another coach not named Paul Roos...

His description of what Adelaide thought of his future will worry some Dees supporters if they take that at face value; Vince said that Sanderson and co. explained he had zero chance of getting another contract after 2014.

They really wanted to get some value for him...

Frankly, the whole Sylvia-Vince-ND23 deal was a a good deal for all three clubs. They all got good value for what they lost.

Two more things..

Vince speaks very well.

Family friends with the Trengoves.

Kurt Tippett has no credibility in the football world, Vince stressed a few times that he didn't want to be seen in the same light as Kurt TIppett and that walking out on the club for money is not in Bernies character, I thought it was a good little dig.

I sense there is a two tiered plan with respect to rebulding the list. Get a few older players who'll have 2, 3, 4, years at the club providing some insurance to competitiveness whilst riding shotgun for the kids as they come in and get experienced, but not expected to carry the team as in recent flawed efforts. The older ones just need to do a decent job. They arent flagship players, nor need to be saints, just effective.

Err Captain Obvious ..... :)

For those who interpreted the article above as Bernie not wanting to be a Dee I suggest you listen to the audio of the MMM interview in its entirety: http://www.triplem.com.au/adelaide/sport/afl/news/2013/10/bernie-vince-off-to-melbourne/

Rucci is always selective with what information he passes on to readers. And this article is not for Demon consumption but Crow, to make crow...

I think Vince wanted to be wanted. And he seems to have got that.

Bottom line seems to be that Bernie no longer felt wanted at the Crows.

He's wanted at the Dees.

Their loss is our gain.

Stick it up 'em, Bernie, in the best possible way -- with some scintillating, match-winning performances for the Dees!

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
