So, where to from here with pick 2?

Do we think Aish is a certainty? What would be the outcome on here if we took kelly?

For me Kellys real weapon is his endurance running, a little bit like Tom Scully, but that endurance won't be a factor at AFL level, Aish is classy, skilful and makes things happen but he is a little slight and might take a couple of years to get his body bulked up and stuff.

Not if the Eagles pick him up! :)

Reading the clubs website and Peter Jackson's comments in another Jack Watts Article, looks like the club will not be paying 100% of salary cap. This will limit the players we can target so to me Pick 2 will be used by us in the National Draft, then we will be after players like Miles, Cross, Maverick Wellar, Savage players that just can't break into midfields.

I'd be happy with Aish, Pick 20 Inside Midfielder, Garlett as Third Rd Pick, 4th Round HBF, Cross and Wellar as Uncontracted Free agents, plus target Miles for PSD pick 2

7 in plus Hogan 8, then we just need to decide whether to upgrade Magner and Clisby, if we do we need to make room for them. We can't fix our list with one draft, If Sylvia goes we will get pick 21 for him and some spare cash to try and get a Savage from Hawthorn.

Kelly has a lot more skill than Scully though.

I still think some kind of double-up is possible, my fantasy being pick 2 for Docherty and 7 from Brisbane, then 7 to GWS for Taylor Adams.

But that depends very much on how much value is perceived in moving from 7 to 2, for Brisbane.

The goal as I see it is not so much to find superstars like Gysberts or Scully, as to build at least a full 22 of genuine AFL level players, and right now you can't fill a list of 22 demons who are genuinely AFL standard on a regular basis.

Heh, that would seem to be the ultimate argument for a priority pick, but, nevermind.

Hanging over our heads like the Sword of Damocles.

Agree with 316, unless we trade for an A grader, take a kid.

I think we need to trade it into 2 kids jumbo.

I wonder if the Adams & P9 will come off, or the Docherty & P7 ?

One A-grader won't help as much, as depth of quality, etched with free agents to shore up our immediate playing competitiveness. We need tough quality kids for our future, interwoven with hard frees, like Chappy, Cross & Thompson.

but we have to be able to afford their payments.

what is going on with our player payments?

Pick 2 for Adams and pick 10 would golden
Pick 10 could then be used for any of Sheed, Crouch, Freeman or Bontempelli and then hope to god that jones/dunstan are still there at pick 20
Swallow or Sloane are the only two players mentioned worth of a straight swap for pick 2. Any other deal should see us receive another mid first round pick in return to have a decent stab at this draft pool

I get the feeling the club has been shopping around with pick 2, telling other clubs its on the table and hey we are interested in Sloane, Swallow, Adams etc.

Hopefully a couple or few bite, so when it comes time for the trade period we have a few other clubs trying to outbid one another so we won't have to pay overs and gain more back in return.

If we keep pick 2 I'd like us to look at taking someone like Matt Crouch. The top mids predicted to go early like Aish, Kelly, Billings etc are all the outside type of players and I think we could use an inside player who can rack up the disposals, clearances and tackles than a player on the outside. From what I've seen and read Aish and Kelly, for example, will end up as wingman type players and I think right now we could use more of the inside type, although some may argue that we could find that type in the second round.

Rory Sloane is no chance IMO, and Adams seems more keen on a move to a Carlton or Richmond at the minute. Doesn't mean we will miss out as we do have the second pick to play with but we will need to do some serious talking to get some of these guys across.

If it's to be Adams (my preference), I'd send pick 2 and Jamar to GWS for pick 9 and Adams.

I know Jamar has minimal currency, but with Jolly expected to come on board, we need to move him, and I think GWS will want him to replace Brogan.

Unless GWS convince Mumford to come across, which is a decent chance of happening. GWS would probably be the only club who would take even a quick glance at Jamar, but if they get Mummy then he stays with us.

I think the hawks are into Mummy. instant bigman for them to stay up & mummy gets to be near home.

Agree with that. I just don't know how realistic Pick 2 for Star Player X is.

Not to mention, this is hopefully the last time we'll have a pick right at the pointy end of the draft, and suspect that with the long term in mind, we'll use it on a young gun.

Very true, and if Buddy does decide to leave they will have the coin to throw at him, and you would think he would rather play for a premiership contender at his age than GWS.

Yep I reckon the hawks will go hard at the likes of Adams, (if they don't get martin) or maybe both.

either way I expect many player movements will shake a lot from the trees. as the older top teams try to stay atop. (Mummy, Martin, Adams)

where does this leave Sewell?

wouldn't a nice combo of this be nice....
-pick #2 and a sweetener (perhaps fitzy?) for Adams and pick #9
-pick #9 on any of sheed, crouch, freeman
-pick #20 on Zac Jones
-Sylvia to leave and we receive band 3 compensation (pick #21)
-Pick #21 on whichever topline midfielder slides, ideally Dunstan
-Pick #35 traded to GWS for Anthony Miles
-Daniel Cross as delisted free agent

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
