Well done to young Tom. The former no. 1 draft pick seems to have been successfully turned into a tagger. The fact that he averaged the same amount of possessions and had an inferior rating to our own Jack Trengove, who we and the industry considered to have an exceedingly poor year matters not.

I believe that, to his eternal credit, Jimmy recognised the lie when Scully told it. It's not a matter of whether the kid was sitting on an offer he couldn't refuse or whether we were or were not adequately compensated in the end; it's a matter of ethical conduct.

For that, we're all entitled to our views and I have no qualms about casting the first and last stones. Not at Scully himself (although he bears some responsibility) but at his advisers, his family and those at the AFL who made it happen.

Coming 3rd in their B & F doesn't make him a good player or justify their huge outlay.

Having watched all the GWS games (between their performance and the endless excuses and barracking they get from commentators, it would be almost as painful as watching us - if I cared), I'm sure $cully was only made #3 to justify Sheedy's lunacy in paying him so much.

I have the same issue living in Country WA but it the WCE and Freo games. I have little time for both local teams.

Sometimes you are right as we do what we can to justify our decisions at times.

Scully got to 3rd in the GWS Best and Fairest the same way that Lynden Dunn got to sixth in ours; Consistently good-ordinary performances in a team where most others were wildly up and down.

My comment about us having players to 'pass' him is more about the development to another level that I hope to see; consistent 'actually good' performances from more players.

It's easy to imagine half a dozen players push up a gear, such as Trengove, Clark, Grimes, Frawley, Howe, Watts, Viney, McDonald.

Come to think of it, that group plus Jones, Garland and Sylvia would be a likely top ten collection.
