Essendon Players Free to Leave

The commision may offer the players the option to leave as a free agent. Will be very interesting to see if some players want out and could really help us re-build our midfield quickly without giving up a lot at our end...

If they want to let Carlisle Walk ill take him, i would also take Daniher.

Maybe Stanton..

Just saying hehe

That would be just terrible if the Commission did that.

This is delicate but the Bombers can't become a basket case like us for a decade - that is what this would do.

Although, maybe peer pressure will keep the majority at the club...

But if 20 players are thinking this and want to leave - Essendon will be down for years.

As much as that would be great for the rest of the world's happiness levels - can we minimise the amount of farce in the AFL soon?

would worry me that ASADA would still issue infraction notices.. they're leppers in m y mind.

let them change clubs by all means but Id pick up other club's players as a result

I hope Goddard leaves. That would be the ultimate pisser.

could be likely.

He did not enter the bombers with the idea that this shtstorm would open up.

Why would he stay?

Melbourne would pay him just as much?

Agree with rpfc.

Now are any of those players that leave cleared of ASADA issues.

Well, that is the other issue. They get a release and then what? Clubs just sign them up on contracts not knowing whether ASADA will ruin them?

If I was an Essendon player who was getting good advice, I would tell them to cling to Essendon and fight to stay - and even morally oblige them to re-sign me if ASADA is looming above my head.

The worst story from this is the 21 year old who gets 12 months after being delisted by the club and his career is done. He can't play footy at all and his chances of ever reaching where he was takes a massive nosedive.

Zaharakis! No bomber I'd want more than this guy

Would also be keen for Jobe for a couple of years just to help develop the midfield

Posted

Can't quite see how this would work. If a player has a reason to be concerned about in infraction notice, would another club want that player? if a player has no reason to be concerned, why would they leave Essendon?

They may just be unhappy with what went on

Posted

This would be on legal advice. The AFL will not want to risk restraint of trade suits if some players desperately want out. It will be up to Essendon to persuade them to stay. They will must have to talk them into staying.

Posted

If this guts Essendon, they can alway go begging for a Priority Pick after 7 years for 34 wins...

;)

No need to worry for Essendon, they reappointed the golden boy for two years on the day he was suspended. They obviously have it all under control.

PS. I don't think many will leave as there will be a strong bond between the players. Essendon will probably also top up some contracts and keep them reasonably happy.

For any club to take any Essendrug player they would want a cast iron guarantee that ASADA and WADA and anyone else had actually cleared them, not just had not charged them.

I highly doubt more than about 5 'names' would want out... & maybe a couple of 0 game kids . that might sound like a Poetic justice?

would work in with the add, (wipe off 5)

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. I think Kolt looks like he’s im

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
