He will be in hot demand, a few clubs have limited opportunities at a flag or have young lists are likely to go after him. He would certainly be a bonus to us, especially if picked up outside of the draft, maybe get a couple of older good players and then use of draft picks for kids.

Two decades ago StKilda was the retirement home for past it Carlton players. Let's not be Geelong's or anyone else's.

Aaron Hamill says hi, yes he was injured but he put the fear of god into the opposition whenever he was on the park.

Hamill ended his career by attacking the man and not the ball. He was made to understand about karma.

Apparently Collingwood has offered him a 2 year deal + coaching gig after football but Chappy is contemplating to sign at the Pies or go to Essendon who are offering him a 3 year deal.

Chappy is only 31. He won't be coming to us.

Essendon are on more than peptides if they are giving him a 3 year deal. Hamstrings are screwed. He should've taken the 10 game contract. He might just have been playing well enough to get more games and you couldn't leave him out of a final.

Essendon going to be contenders next year unfortunately.

Has a good relationship with Thompson apparently.

He would be handy in a final if his hamstrings can hold up. Good player at kicking a clutch goal.

Essendon will be right for his Hamstrings as they have this wonderful substance that is suggested that it will assist in repair of muscles.....Allegedly. Sorry could not help my self

I always thought he was the karma protecting some of the younger saints? I never really felt like he sniped anyone who didn't deserve it.

RGRS, yeah thats a fair point Carlton didn't want to lose him, didn't he have a falling out with Elliot? ( always loved him for that)

That's almost as stupid as offering Buddy a 9 year deal!

If Essendon want to do that then it is fine with me.

We just wasted a complete drafting, on Pedersen, Dawes, Byrnes, Rodan and Gillies, set the club back another two years, if that is possible, wouldn't surprise me if they go for Chappy, Dids, Hunt, Jolly and Cross, anything is possible at the MFC.

Don't think Dawes is a waste of drafting, but agree with the sentiment of your point Bluey

My question mark with Chappy is his passion. Here's a guy who could lift himself and his teamates by desparation and a strength of will that flowed from his commitment to his club. I suspect he will always be a cat at heart and wonder whether he could lift himself and others in the same way at a new club.

I think he said he still has a desire to play

It should be easy to channel that desire into a lets show em that you were right and focus on playing and teaching the next generation

That challenge can pay huge dividends.

But Hey to work that out needs some pretty intensive recruitment interviews and rigorous personnel management so I trust the club PJ and PR to make some sound decisions.

I wouldn't have called him a full time sniper but the injury he sustained that ended his career was caused by running towards a loose ball on the wing, looking up and seeing an opponent coming at him, then over running the ball to attack the man. This was later confirmed by Grant Thomas on radio, Hamill had told Thomas he regretted his decision.

fair enough, live by the sword and all that, I for one would be prepared to donate all my sodium diclofenac to Chappy to play for us as I do think he is Hamill like in his toughness and the inspiration he provides to the rest of the team.

With North and Richmond pulling out of the race.. Surely he is worth a look on the veteran list?

We could offer him 500k and only have to pay 250k within the salary cap??

Would ad some class and hardness at the ball and could teach the youngsters what it means to play with passion!

Thoughts?

MFC maybe able to give Chappy something that others may not be willing to give... a one year contract, with a possible option of a second if he pulls through the first in good order. I doubt any of the other clubs would be looking at him for a possible two years. we may not either but he has more chance with our list getting that second year.

Plenty.

First, the scenario for Vets involved 10 year vets at that club. Not vets from othe clubs.

Secondly, that scenario is now defunct.

Thirdly, the new scenario is you can have an unlimited amount of 10 year vets and you can pay them each $100k outside the cap.

So we could do that for Jamar. But what is the point when we don't have a cap squeeze...

As for Chapman - I am sure he would be good value for a couple years, but we have bigger fish to fry this trade period so am more concerned with that.

Well that puts my vets theory to bed!

I guess our salary cap would be pretty healthy, regardless I think we need to be competitive ASAP and chapman would help this as long as he is fully fit and could play 80% of the year!

Our past mistakes were not surrounding young talent with mature bodies.

Both Chapman and Corey could fill a need for 2 years while Aish and Kelly developed bigger bodies.

Not only Chapman and Corey, but there is a long list of blokes that could be courted with big money.

Aish and Kelly will be gone before pick 20 so getting both wont happen and there is always the chance that we trade away our pick 2 and end up with neither

I certainly agree with your strategy i feel that age is against Chapman and Corey

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
