I don't actually agree with any of those reasons. Come on people isn't that obvious. Except maybe the finishing every players name with a Y. That's freaking annoying.

The biggest tick against Roos is that he has never had to build a club from the ground up - he took over at Sydney which had a pretty handy list to start with.

Having said that, I don't think any coach in the modern era has been asked to do what the next MFC coach is being asked to do. No club has been this low, and survived.

MFCSS kicking in early. When a 2 win season and negativity is you're starting point then it can only get better.

While technically it's true I think reason #5 is unfair. Only one flag 8 years ago yes, but another was lost by under a kick and more importantly the Paul Roos' coached sides invariably played well into September. The winning culture and sustained success at the top he had at Sydney is polar-opposites to the Melbourne culture of recent years.

Also in relation to reason #5 hypothetically would we pass up Alistair Clarkson (1 time premiership coach, 5 years ago) or Ross Lyon (0 time premiership coach)?

#6 is a good point and it's this reason why I'm just as eager to get a team of highly-regarded, successful assistants and footy people to support the Roos regime. If the rumours about Walsh and Tudor are true then that's a very good start. Ling, Kennelly, Micky O also excite me.

Yeah, they sacked Eade for a reason but Sydney were not nearly as low as we are currently. The second best recent example is Ratten taking over Carlton but things were starting to turn for them already, especially with Judd jumping on. And the best one is obviously Hawthorn with Clarko. But as well as he did he built them up on Crawford, Bateman, Hodge, Mitchell much before the draft picks kicked in with Franklin, Roughead, Lewis.

That's Roos' challenge. Improve the slops we've all but written off so that we don't keep hitching our future on generation after generation of young player. I'll take winning in any form next year but it will be even sweeter if we do it because Clark and Dawes are on fire and we've found some midfield rejuvination all without loading up on poor Hogan, Viney and Toumpas!

Whilst the Sydney list may have been handy, ours is not so shabby [especially when we get Clark and Hogan next year]. Our problem is 20% list (especially midfielders) and 80% coaching and game plan, which is the precise reason we have targetted him. At least give PJ and the Board some credit for having thought this one through!

But I suspect a similar list could be made for every other potential coach. The better question is whether the list of points outweighs the list of points against.

Yes, we have spent the last 3 months making Craig out to be some sort of pub coach. Imagine what we could do to Roos given the inclination.

And I am certain there will be nervous nellies next year that will see us still losing and blame Roos and wonder why we paid for a coach that has 'lost it' and should have 'stayed on the couch.'

But in the end, he is one the best coaches of recent times and will allow us to fix our culture and have some confidence - both on and off the field.

I am not as pro-Roos as the majority on Demonland and I am a bit concerned about the money he will cost. In saying that, the promotional value of someone like Roos could, in part at least, pay for itself. I would also probably prefer a coach that has a more attacking mindset.

I see one of the key benefits of Roos being that the AFL wants him to do it and that he won’t do it if he thinks there is a good chance of failure, so he might be able to leverage that into a priority pick #1. Getting a name like Roos will also help us retain and attract players.

I'll admit I have pondered over #6. Lyon and Longmire are a couple of pretty handy underlings. But have they developed into the coaches they are today because of their tutelage under Roosy? Hm? Ah? Aaaah.

Melbourne delivered his biggest ever loss as coach and it clearly left a mark on him. Maybe he's back to settle the score. Wipe us out completely from behind enemy lines.
