Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

You're wrong in the sense that he earned his $1 million not for doing nothing, but for doing the wrong thing!

Hypothetically, if he is charged by ASADA what happens to the million?

If you're a paid up member would you be happy if you donated money to the club, particularly considering this has cost them to date just under $4 million, and Hird who was at the helm of all of this has been paid?!

He shouldn't have taken the money. Not with how much he has cost and damaged the club, players and supporters.

On the other hand maybe he knows what's coming and getting as much as he can get before the charges.

PS: Great last line! 4,000+ injections... OVER FOUR THOUSAND! What's more worrying is WorkSafe's silence.

They are totally deluded and the ones I have spoken to totally back Hird and the club... Nuts.

Just read Patrick Smith's article.

WOW

also I find it mind-boggling that they can administer that many injections and pills to players and seem to think they wont get infraction notices - seems to me it is as inevitable as the sun going down.

I found it - AFL NOTICE OF CHARGE

68. Following that meeting, 38 players at the Club signed Patient Information/Informed Consent forms in relation to these four substances. In relation to these substances, those 38 players agreed to:

(a) one AOD-9604 injection per week for the season;

(b) one Thymosin injection once a week for six weeks and then one injection per month;

© two Colostrum daily in each training week and two colostrum post-game. The dose may vary according to training needs; and

(d) one Tribulus forte daily in each training week and one Tribulus prior to the game. The dose may vary according to training needs.

69. If the dosages the subject of the Patient Information/Informed Consent forms were administered, the playing group would receive in the order of:

(a) more than 1,500 injections of AOD-9064 and Thymosin; and

(b) more than 16,500 doses of Colostrum; and

© more than 8,000 doses of Tribulus.

There would be no need for a discussion over there. The thread would start with "we are innocent and it's all AD's fault" then there would be 1000 I agree posts.

I've seen this sort of thing before.

Put simply, he has no moral scruples!

Whilst reading that now redacted thread on Bomber Blitz, it struck me how united the posters were on that thread, how certain they were that Little and the Hirds were in the right and at the lack of any debate among the supporters about what had gone on at their club. Certainly, nothing I read in what amounted to close to 100 pages (I didn't read all of them) passed for analysis on the pros and cons of the situation their club found itself in like we had here on Demonland during the tanking investigation.

Of course, the Bombers are in a different situation to the Demons of last year when there was opposition among the ranks of supporters to the board and administration and the issues are completely different but I still find it staggering how single-minded their fans are in support of what their Board are doing. It's almost as if we they're living in some mediaeval kingdom where James and Tanya sit on the throne and are completely untouchable.

Perhaps that's because they were tasting success and in their view, heading for a flag, we on the other hand were sinking and heading for a flogging.

It's amazing how a bit of success quietens the dissenters.

If you look back to the time when Jimmy came back, we seemed to be united behind him, but when the success didn't follow the worms came out of the woodwork. How many would have questioned him and the other members of his administration if we'd reached the finals?

Peter Gordon on the money

He expressed what many on here have said and every football fan other than Bombers fanatics think.

Most supporters would gladly accept on field success while their club was sliding into bankruptcy.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Had the team made the finals, there would have been little or no disquiet and even our financial problems would have melted away into the night. Remember, it was our horrific run of losses in the first couple of games this year that brought so much negativity around the club and together with South China Airlines dropping out of a proposed multi million dollar sponsorship (possibly as a result) that led to drastically revised budgets, the resignations of board members and the CEO and the subsequent AFL takeover.

A pretty scathing article and paints Hird as a selfish arrogant man who has no regards for his club, just his own ego.

Its a suspension, of course he shouldn't be allowed to the xmas party

tell him he cant have a beer but allow him a million.....makes sense to this reader

I suppose that the saving grace is that you can add $1m to the amount of Essendon's fine.

They'd happily buy themselves out of this. That's no effective punishment to them. Deny them a dozen players and open the door to class actions now thats what I'm looking for.

interesting in that it seems essendon must have asked the afl

a week ago they wouldn't have bothered and allowed the golden boy to attend as guest of honour

is essendon toning down their arrogance towards the afl?

This from Niall in today's Age may be well known to those who have followed things more closely than me, but it explains why Hird wheels out his wife:

- James being unable to fire the shots himself, having signed a no-disparagement clause in his settlement with the AFL.

Long queues to the toilets at that Christmas party. The cubicles are forever "occupied".

The Essendon fans seemed to decide long time ago that it was all in together. Us against them. They didn't account for the fact that they were rallying behind someone who was in fact doing untold damage to their club, and were in essence choosing individual over club. It is still unfathomable to me that he will eventually return as senior coach. I can't get my head around it.

Incidentally, minority voices get shouted down here too. Long may those voices be heard and those behind them not give a [censored] about them being unpopular at the time.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
