The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

He also said he wouldn't have taken the Tigers job if he knew their financial position. Yet after his contract finished they were in a worse place financially.

No doubt their recruiting was rubbish. They reportedly recruited Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls without seeing him play and took a long time to realise he was dyslexic. But there development was just as bad. All 5 they picked showed talent at one stage but never kicked on.

Well one did.

Delidio was their first pick, but the other 4 were fails

what did he say?

Can't give the full thing (as I was on hold on a phone call)

But he mentioned something about expecting the player that they would have chosen at 2, should still be there at pick 9. Which interested people... Means that the MFC have not had their eye on Kelly, Aish or Scharenberg, but the Freeman, Crouch type of players...

If they had got Deledio wrong then they truly would be the worst recruiting period in history. Now it's a toss up between us and them. Though I am now very comfortable with the people we have working for us at the minute.

Tambling, Meyer, Pattinson, Polo. First 2 ended up at Adelaide and Port. Tambling had something if brought along the right way, same with Meyer. Pattinson was big lumbering type who was a bust for sure. Polo had the talent to make it, starred on debut. Pretty ugly draft outside the top 5. If they got the Tambling (Franklin or Jordan Lewis) pick right no one would care about the other 3 mugs.

what did he say?

Wanted a young player with experience, midfielder and to get back into drafts top 10 and got that.

Have a few names on the list for pick 2 draft wise and expect 1 or 2 to be there at 9

Bernie Vince will be ours if the Sylvia compo pick can satisfy Adelaide (without explicitly saying that)

Thinks Dom Tyson is a good player and is tall (being a bit facetious but you get the point).

Mahoney on SEN.

  • First option find a midfielder and stay in the top 10.
  • Frustrating due to taking time with what deals will come forward.
  • Met with Tyson Wedsneday and put a forward to him on Thursday then decided to come today.
  • Highly rated tall midfielder, AFL career stop start due to injury, massive upside and a tall midfielder to compliment our small midfielders.
  • sees a 10 year midfielder in him.
  • could have a deal straight away once we find out with our compensation pick.
  • will get on the phone straight away to Adelaide was the compo pick comes out.
  • Vince will fill the void for Sylvia, big time player who fill a needs, Vince excited the club and we excited him.

Ox gave this a 7/10 in his rating for getting Tyson.

Barrett now saying compensation picks could be as late as 6pm. A good old fashioned LOL at the AFL's professionalism.

What is that???

Seriously why would it need to be pushed back? The AFL have known for a long time who the FA are and the contract situations, no reason for it to be delayed. Poor form AFL.

So as I understand it the trade period has ended.

If so is there an overall summary anywhere? link?

I know Tyson is a good player, but what is it with us picking up guys who have missed, literally, whole seasons with injury?

Michie and Tyson sound great on paper, but won't be if they do a Dawes and play about 4 games each next year...

Just sayin.

Tyson did a PCL didn't he? Not really a long-term concern.

Not at all a long term concern, or a short one. He's fit and ready for preseason it seems. Due diligence will have been done on these guys, and they will both start with a clean slate injury wise. But, to state the obvious, anybody can get injured at any time, and I can just hear the demonland squeals next year if either goes down, albeit with unrelated injuries.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
