We should not pay overs. If so, we walk away and draft a gun at #2! We pick up cross and one other with a later pick. We drive development out of the young guns we have and support them with a few older, able types. We swing a few interesting changes like Watts to the midfield.

Why pay overs?? It is Adelaide and Essendon that have to 'buy' their way back to the table.

If we pay overs we are way too stupid to deserve to be in this competition.

I am certain that we (MFC) are well aware of this. Both those guys if they want to come to the party will have to lower their expectations or they will just miss out!

This has got to be the most boring trade period in history. The AFL have buggered up by having the free agency last for 2 weeks. Pretty much everything is done within a day as the Free agents know when they want to leave or not and the clubs know they won't match it. They should have one week for free agency and then 3 weeks for trades. It's obvious all the trades are being held up because no one knows what compo they will get.

Feels more like a marathon these days instead of a sprint... not to mention groundhog like: "Carlton is interested in XXX, Carlton is interested in YYY, Carlton is interested in anything with a pulse, scrap that Carlton is interested even if it doesn't have a pulse"

I don't have trade radio. Have any trades been completed today?

Another quiet day I'm afraid...

The worst part about that trade scenario is the fact that Essendon are the ones making away like bandits.

The way it's panning out, I think we need to accept that we will be paying overs no matter what the scenario.

You mean... the way trade rumours are panning out..?

What is the purpose of the FA & trade period?

To facilitate player movement? Or entertain you?

In fact, for the purposes of the AFL, it's doing exactly what they want.

If we can't pick up the young, quality mid-fielder we want with pick 2 we should keep it. Instead we should trade our later picks for older midfielders like Myer and Vince. These guys will be around 2 - 5 years and worth later round picks. They will help develop our younger talent, but more importantly should be able to give us the instant competitive up-lift in the midfield which we require. I am against trading pick 2 at a significant loss, despite our desperate need for ready made high quality mids.

What should happen is FA last for a week, then the following 2 weeks is the trade period. That way, clubs know the compensation they'll receive before the trade period begins.

That won't happen because it makes perfect sense!

The FA Trade period only needs to be two weeks in total. Look at the Free agent trades this year, all of these had been agreed to by the relevant parties prior to the start of the free trade window. The AFL wants to keep itself in the media through the off season great but it is having the reverse effect the papers have nothing on the AFL because there is nothing happening. Clubs are sitting back waiting for next week, you will find once the FA comp. picks are handed out the trades will all fall from there.

I can entertain myself other ways. I'm more discussing the flawed system where the Free Agency compensation is holding up proceedings that is all. I think there are plenty of deals already worked out but everyone is just waiting because they have said we will give you X compo for Y player and so on. I bet as soon as the compo picks are given out on Friday or whatever we will see 2 or 3 trades done in quick succession. So what I am saying is why does the free agency period need to be any longer than a week or at most 10 days. The intricate trades are the ones that need more time.

Well yes, but also the lack of interest in the club as a destination which seems very apparent. As soon as a player is even linked with a possible move to the MFC, their manager can't knock it on the head fast enough.

The club is desperate for some quality and experience, and every other club knows it, not withstanding the equally strong desire of Adelaide and Essendon to enter the draft early.

Hopeful of some late aces being pulled out, but it seems likely we'll have to sacrifice more than most clubs purely because of our current predicament.

It will be slow week until we know what the compensation is. I dont expect a trade before then.

Sen rumour:

Melbourne - in - Vince and Myers

Out - pick 2

Essendon - in - pick 2

Out - Crameri, Myers, pick 22

Adelaide - in - pick 22

Out - Vince

Bulldogs - in - Crameri

Out - pick 22

Lets hope not, sounds ridiculous

Bombers not giving enough and we're not getting enough - they'r not giving 22, just Myers and Crameri, they need to add another decent player (and not Jetta) because they can't add a decent pick with their first pick around 50..

Melbourne - in - Vince, Myers, Hocking

Out - pick 2

Essendon - in - pick 2

Out - Crameri, Myers, Hocking

Adelaide - in - pick 22

Out - Vince

Bulldogs - in - Crameri

Out - pick 22

Still wouldn't touch that deal with a ten foot pole, 55.

If you have Demonland, you have Trade Radio. It's on the official AFL website.

SEN were playing games asking listeners to give complex trades ie a quadrella. made up fanciful scenarios to create discussion on the radio nothing more

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
