It's almost making excuses for a poor trading period before it even happens, to me.

That only shows the contempt the media has for us.

Sure, some players would disregard us out of hand as a destination, but we aren't a leper colony.

It's just sexier for the papers to write about rumours involving the bigger teams.

Not at all, we have already taken, possibly, the best forward in the draft and as I said if we can pick up a couple of Quality mids and a few mature players we will have done well. There are no excuses there just the reality that some of the top players who are on the move not wanting to move across to us.

We will come good but it may just take a bit longer without the injection of ready made players.

Thanks for the summary WB, however I am not as concerned as others. I think MFC are in a great position in regards to trade and draft, no one knows wat the hell is happening other than those inside the club which means there are no leaks coming from the club different to previous years.

I believe we are in a very good position in regards to pick 2, knowing if we don't trade it for an established quality midfielder that's fine we go to the draft and pick up the best midfielder there. Aish/Kelly, both hopefully will be 10+ yr midfielders for our club. I know It will take a bit longer but if we get it right it can also set us up for sustained success in the future, Massive period for our club to get the selections right and confident our football department will this time around.

And then with pick 20 odd may be able to snare a dunstan or garlett with a bit of luck if we retain the pick of course.

Then the Sylvia compo pick and our later ones either trade for fringe players at other afl clubs and add midfield depth or through the draft.

However I feel we are in a great position and will be intrigued to see how we go in the next month, feeling pretty happy and can't wait to see what unfolds.

A relief to read something other than 'poor us we're the red headed step child of the afl'. The club has taken huge steps forward in terms of management, let's breathe 'selah' pause and consider, and see what we get we have all the pieces in place to recruit or trade well. And as for this squealing about a two tier competition, I choose to believe that when we have the cattle we will be able to pay them. To out it down as a coup for the 2013 draft would be wrong.

I'm only talking in reference to judging our performance in the 2013 drafting & trading period.

With that track record, it's interesting to note he has said Hawthorn are putting a massive deal forward to get Jack Darling.

Not sure who they'd give up, but it'd have to be some decent players.

for mine he's a better player than rockliff or sloane.

admittedly he's also a couple of years older, so has a greater level of experience than those guys. but he's also the numero uno in our midst, whereas they're either 2nd or 3rd cab off the rank with a lot more support around them (sloane, behind dangerfield and thompson with van berlo, vince, crouch in support, or rockliff, behind redden and rich, with zorko, black, moloney et al in support).

perhaps i'm over-rating him, but in comparison with those guys he doesn't have any playres ahead of him in our midfield, and very little support around him either.

You could be right, but Rockliff is ready to go now, which is what we want and the reason we're trading the bloody pick. Also for what it's worth I reckon he'd be fine as a pick 2. The reason someone like him might become available (for the good reason you mentioned-time invested) is that they need a KPF at the lions badly.

I generally respect your opinion but I believe that Sloane - being the best and fairest at a team with a midfield including Scott Thompson and Dangerfield is right up there in pick 2 territory.

The bonus with Shuey is that he only has one year left on his contract and, according to the HUN, is 'warming' to the idea of coming back to Victoria.

If, and it's a huge IF, that's true, then Pick 2 would look very attractive to the Eagles if they panic that they could lose him at the end of next season.

It is understood Collingwood is one of the clubs very keen to secure Shuey, and he would add significantly to the Magpies midfield in the absence of Dale Thomas, who is almost certain to join Carlton this week.

True, although 12 months ago I'm sure they had plenty of cash. The fines wouldn't have hit as hard as it did for us - not in the short term anyway. Still plenty of water to go under the bridge though so they may well end up on that list as well.

Am not surprised about infractions comng at all. Essendon are about to enter a world of pain. Will set them back a decade. The best thing is that it will end any chance Hird has of ever being involved in AFL again.

Interesting about that club in financial strife... guess I will speculate and say North or Bulldogs, only cos they are the obvious ones.
