Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Draft picks are on table, but depends what is on offer.

Re spoke about the captaincy, wants to make them both the best they can be, etc etc

But I truly think he hasn't really thought about the captaincy and I will play itself out, he said he would be respectful, but the way he talks I think he believes that th leading teams model will ive us the captain.

OTC

Roosy being interviewed as the MFC coach, and special guest to OTC.

Opens with part of the press conference from Friday.

Outlines the contract and Roosy is in the guest chair with Melb gear.

GH asks him about the contract and Roosy talks about what PJ suggested about the role and that was when Roosy started to think about things seriously

GH suggests that Roos wants success in 2 years. Roosy suggests that he is setting up the coach and stability

Ling withdraws from coaching and have spoken to Simpson and Burns. Roos will call them

Neal Craig will not stay. Wants to move on if he didn't get the senior gig

Assistant put in place will be the next coach.

MFC supporters excited Mike wants Roosy to speak to the supporters and Roosy reassures them that this will not be a case like Malcolm Blight. He had knocked back some jobs and the timing is right now to be at MFC

Mike asks what changed? Roos asked to take a pay cut at the Swans - 50 %. Roos acknowledges his time there and things happened to force him to move. Change in the landscape in the job.

Melbourne needs a change in culture - Watts and Sylv important to the club.

Mike asks about the Tony Sheehan issue , about being approached on behalf of the AFL . Roosy approached after Mark Neeld was sacked.

Early draft picks? Yes, on the table and we need talent and we need midfield talent

Change captains? Same reply as usual - what is best for them (jack and Jack) will be what happens.

Gerard Healy made the best point

"Why should Jack Watts commit to Melbourne long term if you're only signing for 2 years?"

And Roosy (oh God I'm doing it now too) gave the obvious response: "Because even though I might not be here in 5 years, in a couple of months time he'll know exactly who will be."

Can you make that statement about any other club? I don't think so.

And Roos responded that all being well, Watts should at least know who his next coach (the successor) will be before he commits... very reasonable.

I still wish Roos was coaching for 3 years then an option for 2 but hey at least we have him for 2-3 which is better than not at all.

I think its fraught with danger that we plan to name the Senior Assistant/future senior coach so soon.

it makes no sense that Roos wouldn't want to go through a season with some talented assistants and then choose one at the end of 2014 to be the eventual successor.

What if the guy whos chosen in the coming weeks turns out to be a dud and Roos thinks he doesnt have what it takes

Then he better choose right.

He got Longmire spot on. Hired Lyon...

And if we play our cards properly, there is no reason why he can't move into his next phase of his career at the Dees - whatever that might be.

Fatguts Hutchy said no chance for a PP.

Caro said we approached Junior to come back but he's committed to stay at GWS, which is a real shame. I wonder what's stopping him from returning.

The chance to work with a powerhouse side in 2 to 3 years time seems pretty attractive choice.

It's probably a good thing that McDonald isn't coming back any time soon. There's still too much baggage there.

And as for the Roos successor situation, it's not like we're going to hire 4 or 5 homogenous guys and name one of them as the next Godfather. Instead we're picking (along with a few other coaches) a "senior assistant." This is someone whose responsibilities are likely to be very large right from the get-go.

By his own admission (SEN interview), Roos said that he does not have the in-depth day-to-day understanding that your average coach does; he has just been out of the game too long. For this reason, he will be hiring a super-assistant to help him and eventually take over from him in 2-3 (or more) years time.

I think the move is brilliant, because it says to the very best aspiring senior coaches in the making "come here if you want a guaranteed head position." Where else will you get that offer? The best in the business would be lining up to get a crack at a guaranteed job, with the added bonus of being able to see how the best man-manager in the history of footy goes about building a unified team.

Maybe we can turn it into a reality tv show...having assistant coaches competing each week for a spot until only 1 or 2 remain for Roo's to choose :).

Also create another revenue stream for the club...

And we can call it "Head Job"

I'm predicting massive ratings.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
