Today showed why we should take him with our first pick. 30 disposal 5 clearences and 7 tackles today against Vic Country. He is a 185cm 84 kg inside tough midfielder who is a ball magnet and can push forward and kick goals. Has excellent disposal and will be ready made Ollie Wines like.

Make it happen Melbourne!

Get him. He is exactly what we have been avoiding at the draft for the last 6 years (which means he is exactly what we need).

Toughness, ball winner and can use the footy, what's not to like?

Well we did not take Ollie why would we look at this bloke? We did not take D Martin, we did not take Scott Selwood, nor Jack Darling, nor a Hurley, we do not take nasty types with talent we only take nice kids in the first round, with talent yes, but no appetite for the contest nd who can't get the ball themselves.

Please. Every team didn't take Selwood or Darling once. Hurley isn't much chop at all, and would be worse with us, Martin has a tonne of talent but is so close to losing it all.

Of those 2 we're the equal of everyone else, another was a bloke that went were he should because he's either inconsistent or injured, and someone that could win you a flag or get caught using the team flights to smuggle coke.

I'd draft Martin to us in hindsight, but not with any confidence we could make a player or a citizen of him.

I like the height.

I've been worried our mids are getting too small...

Toumpas was a good choice and I'm excited to see what this preseason will do for him, but now the best thing to do is to go for the ready-to-play mid picks.

Agree. Luke Dunstan will be a STAR. I favour Dominic Sheed (WA) slightly over Dunstan but would be happy with either (ecstatic if we got both Dunstan and Sheed).

Dunstan is tough, solidly built, good LF kick, 185cms, 84kgs. All the attributes.

Yep, if we are unbelievably lucky enough to receive a priority pick straight after our first rounder, i'd go for both Dunstan and Sheed as opposed to Aish and say a Billings/Kelly or Boyd. Dunstan is predominantly inside who also can damage outside with his kicking, and Sheed is devastating outside, but is more than capable right in the guts too.

If both were to come in, then our midfield would include the likes of Viney, Toumpas, Dunstan, Sheed, Jones, M Jones (maybe even a Hartung if he's available in the second round). Whilst not complete, our midfield would start to be forming into a half decent one.

On the Hurley comment I'd say he'd make a very good tall defender for us but wouldn't get near it as a forward. Recruiting him would just mean either he or Tom McDonald would be battling away up forward. Neither would help our midfield!

I'm not so much worried about our very high picks I think we screwed them with development. It's the second and third rounders were we went chasing talent instead of performers that doesn't sit well with me.

It's hard to believe he's 18. Will be an A grader and has a great left foot. Would play 20 games with us next year. Reminded me of Stephen Powell, but a great kick.

Don't see a star, but who knows ? Built like Matty Boyd now, but can kick.

if we get a pp a midfield of trengove grimes sheed dunstan jones viney sylvia toumpas kent howe blease could be very good for us

Dunstan wasn't a clean one touch stoppage player today.

Perhaps it was a one off, but just on what I seen today - I'd be surprised if Dunstan goes top 3.

Aish didn't have the best game, but the obvious class is there, not sure he will go 1-2 either.

Scharenberg, Kelly and Sheed were standouts today.

A common school of thought is that Sheed won't go top 6-7, his major knock being that he is one paced. Today, he was the best player I seen.

Kelly was very good, runs all day and looks to have big upside.

I think Kelly taken that game by the scruff at times today and got Metro back into it.

Billings is considered a 5-15 pick, I doubt we'd take the punt on him early, but I wouldn't complain if we did.

For pick 9?

You're on drugs.

I have previously overstated how poor he is, but he still sits about 15-25 in this draft.

1. I'm not on drugs. How dare you.

2. I couldn't give two sh1ts what you have previously 'overstated' (check the dictionary on that one, buddy.)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
