Taggart Dawes Howe

Evans Fitz Rodan

Jamar Sylvia Magner

Blease Jetta/Kent Pedersen Tappscott.

Blease, Sylvia,Taggert and Gawn have to come in.

I thought Fitzpatrick was terrible today coudnt mark to save himself and kept turning the ball over. So he s out for Gawn.

Bail out fr Blease

Evans out for Sylvia.

Strauss for Taggert.

Dunn andMckenzie the lucky ones.

If Trengove wasnt captain hed be out too

I saw Frawley walk straight off after the game hobbling. Dam it I hope its not serous. He was great and Franklin today and we need him for Cloke next week. It was a bad day this will make it worse.

Posted

Buddy Franklin gets sent to the pine and Frawley is chasing around Puopolo. Then with 3 minutes to go Frawley does a hamstring.

Here in lies the lesson of players getting injured due to mismanagement. Frawley is a god damn full back. If the full forward he's on goes the bench either put Frawley on the bench too or let him sit in the back 50 on which ever tall they do put there.

Same thing happens in lots of our games. You look up and Frawley's opponent is on the bench or in the ruck and here's Frawley chasing around some 5'8'' muppet from the other team.

If Frawley is out, I say bring Davis in for a shot at it. He's probably not really big enough to go with Cloke, but you know he'd die trying.

He'd also just die. I'm not sure who I want on Cloke but I don't think it's Davis. Sellar/Pedersen/Garland/McDonald the options.

Posted

I know he's undersized but Garland is our next best defender. Maybe its time we throw him the challenge. And the pies are likely to just play Cloke and Lynch so is there a case for replacing Frawley with a small. I suppose the question is who is our next best defender is it a tall or small? Is it Sellar or is it Nicholson or can we bring in another midfield and have Howe play half back?

Terlich Sellar Garland
Strauss Pedersen Dunn
M.Jones Couch Trengove
Taggart Dawes Howe
Davey Fitz Watts
Jamar Sylvia N Jones
Kent, Mckenzie, Tapscott Sub: Evans

in- Sylvia, Taggert, Sellar, Couch

out - Bail, Rodan, J Macd, Frawley (inj)

Sellar in for Frawley

Taggert - lets see him...

Sylvia - thank you 3 weeks have gone

Couch - deserves a go. We need more in & under. Make or break

J Macd - love him, but a battler

Rodan - OMG , fumbles, runs in circles

Bail - falls over, misses tackles, fumbles. Keep walking & delist.

Remember when we sent the undersized Rivers to him? And how well that worked? Think Cloke had about 30 marks by half time.

To big an ask 'master', he will give it everything but way too undersized for the mountain. It will have to be Sellar (or contaminated prawns), at least he had a good game for Casey on the weekend.

Pederson got pushed off the mark by a skinner kid in his second AFL game today. Wouldnt stand a chance against Cloak.

Garland is too small. Played really well against Roughead today but Cloak plays more with his body and you cant afford to be behind him with his big leads.

Tommy Mac just doesnt have the skills. Can play him against a #3 forward but not Cloak or Lynch

...

Which leaves Seller.

Didn't Sylvia get 3 weeks? If so he is due back.

In: Sylvia, Blease

Out: Bail, Joel Mc

I'd keep Joel Mac and send him to the backline in place of either Dunn or Strauss. Strauss played very poorly, but as there's no upside in Dunn, I'd keep Strauss and send Dunn back to Casey.

Bail's had a few poor games in a row now, so he should go, too.

I thought Pedersen and Fitzpatrick both struggled, but (assuming Tom Mc is not ready), I'd keep them both as they need more time.

If Matt Jones needs a rest perhaps Dunn gets saved. But given it was M Jones only poor game for the year he deserves another chance.

So, I would bring in Sylvia and Magner and drop Bail and Dunn (or M Jones).

Should have never been swapped to start with.

Sellar isn't up to it .

Doubt he will get 50 AFL games.

Be realistic .

No hands .No feet . No pace .

Ain't hindsight fantastic.

What BAD LUCK Chip. Get well soon.

Ok... so we have no real leadership on field... and we want to drop Jamar? even though he is competing well in the ruck? I dont think Gawn is ready to be a first choice ruckman just yet. Next year will be his time.

This how I would line up against the pies.

FB: Terlich Garland. J MacDonald

HB: Davis Dunn Trengove

C: Evans. Jones M jones

HF: Howe Dawes Davey

FF: Sylvia Watts Fitzpatrick

Foll: Jamar Magner. Rodan

INT: Kent,Taggert,Tapscott, McKenzie (sub)

OUT: McKenzie Fitzpatrick Pedersen Frawley (inj) Bail

IN: Magner, T Davis, Sylvia

Taggert

From what I saw Frawley went off with a hamstring at the end of the game so assuming he doesn't pull up.. Which wouldn't be a bad idea because it would give him three weeks to freshen up. I would bring in Troy Davis, who has been solid in the vfl, and from what I saw when he played in the nab cup in 2012 is worth persisting with more so than Sellar! But if Frawley is fit I'd drop Dunn.

Magner straight back in. Should never of been dropped. I would bring Sylvia straight in, should be fresh, and start him deep in the forward line and use him as a lead up target, because I've never seen a player less interested in running back into defence so let him play to his ego, I mean strength and tell him to get hungry and rotate him through the midfield with Evans.

I'd give Taggert I run, deserves a look. Jack Watts was used as a marketing tool when he was 17 on queens bday, do why not bring in a bloke in good form.

Trengove has been battling for consistency, so put him behind the ball and make him play that 'Luke Hodge General' role. If he is such a good leader then lets make him show it..

I think we need to keep Rodan in and start him on the ball and let him build confidence.

And I'd would rather have Gawn in the team but there is no point giving Fitzpatrick one game needs at least 3 to see what,if anything he can produce.

Pedersen.. No time for this bloke. Has a Pea Heart. No drive and was monstered 3 times in a row in the last quarter.

Only other player I'd consider would be Couch for Mckenzie. Who is close to useless if not tagging.. But I think Couch is on the rookie list if I'm not wrong?

I couldn't see this team beating collingwood but, when they have won 1 game from 10 (against an expansion side)Who can you see us beating really?

IN: Blease, Sellar, Sylvia

OUT: Frawley (inj), Bail, M. Jones

FB: Garland, Pedersen, Strauss

HB: MacDonald, Sellar, Terlich

C: Evans, N. Jones, Rodan

HF: Howe, Watts, Tapscott

FF: Fitzpatrick, Dawes, Kent

FOLL: Jamar, Sylvia, McKenzie

INT: Davey, Dunn, Trengove

SUB: Blease

EMERG: Davis, Jetta, M. Jones

Sylvia in is a given. Sellar in for Frawley ahead of Davis is a given also I believe given the size of Collingwoods forwards, I think against St Kilda after the bye would be a much better place to debut Davis. Blease should also get a run as he's put some solid weeks together back at Casey and his run will be well needed.

As for the outs as we know Frawley is foced. Bail although nt terrible on the weekend just has a lack of polish and losses out with Sylvia coming back and Evans having shown more then Bail over the previous week. Matt Jones I think is just starting to show the signs of the rigours of his first AFL season. I'd make him the designated non playing emergency this week leading into the bye to allow him 2 weeks to freshen up. I'd also do the same with both of Tom McDonald and Shannon Byrnes who are in line to return from injury this week. Give them the extra week heading into the bye to make sure they're cherry ripe to go for the 2nd half of the season.

I know some people have also called for Fitzpatrick to be dropped and he was far from impressive on the weekend, but I want to see him given a few games ina row to see what he can do. He keeps coming in for 1 game and then out the following week. Give him this game and the Saints game and if still no good then he can be Gawn for Gawn and will probably be Gawn at seasons end also.

I tip Dunn to go on Cloke .

Blease will be back in.

Looking at the Casey stats Clisby and Couch are in line for a game .

Get Max back !

Give Jamar a rest .

Jolly is fading -Max will slaughter him .

No Sellars please-turnover king.

Those wanting Couch to play, the club can't play him even if they wanted to. Magner has already been promoted due to the long-term injury to Grimes. There's no other spot open for a rookie to be promoted to the senior list.

For me, Sylvia comes straight back in, and if Sylvia has improved his defensive efforts, as was suggested in the VFL report, he can come in to provide some run and carry on the wing.

If we bring Sylvia back in, then Magner doesn't need to come back in my mind. Sylvia can come in for Bail I reckon.

Jamar should also stay, because we've been more competitive in the clearances with him palming the ball down.

With Frawley out, I think Sellar is the logical choice to come in purely to matchup with Cloke. He's a bigger body, and I don't think it would be smart to bring Davis in for that match-up.

So I reckon:

Ins: Sylvia, Sellar, Blease.

Outs: Frawley (Inj), Bail, M Jones (might need the rest)

I would put Sylvia in the middle. Blease in the half forward line, and Sellar at full back to take Cloke.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
